Kia Hyundai Theft Settlement Payout Date: No Date Yet
Settled — Claims Period Closed
Claim deadline was April 28, 2025 · as of Oct 19, 2026
Short answer, as of October 19, 2026: there is no kia theft settlement payout date. The settlement was approved two years ago and claims closed April 28, 2025, but one objector’s Supreme Court petition is still holding up every payment. On October 6, 2026 the Supreme Court sent that petition back for corrections, according to class counsel. Nothing is paid until it is finished.

Why the Money Has Not Gone Out
This page covers only the payout. For who is in the class and what the settlement covers, see our Kia/Hyundai theft settlement guide.
Judge James V. Selna granted final approval on October 1, 2024. Under the rules of a class settlement, approved claims cannot be paid while an appeal of that approval is pending. Class counsel put it plainly: “Approved settlement payments cannot go out to class members until after these appeals are resolved.”
Three objectors appealed in November 2024. The Ninth Circuit rejected the objections on January 8, 2026. Then, on May 26, 2026, one objector asked the U.S. Supreme Court to step in. That is the single filing standing between approved claims and payment.
Case details
In re: Kia Hyundai Vehicle Theft Litigation, MDL No. 3052, No. 8:22-ml-03052 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, before Judge James V. Selna. The Supreme Court petitioner is an objector who is representing himself, per class counsel.
The district court file is still open. Our docket data shows a status report filed October 15, 2026 (entry 2071) and a notice of appeal to the Ninth Circuit entered October 16, 2026 (entry 2073). We could not read either document. The MDL also contains other tracks besides the consumer settlement, so do not assume the new appeal is about your payment.
Status: Approved, Claims Closed, Payments Frozen
1. May 26, 2026: one objector filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court.
2. October 6, 2026: the Court returned the petition and gave the objector 60 days to refile it with form corrections, according to a class counsel update dated October 12, 2026. By our count, that window runs to about December 5, 2026. We could not confirm this in a court record.
3. If the petition is not refiled, or the Court refuses to hear it, the case goes back to the district court. Then the administrator can start paying.
So any honest kia theft settlement payout date 2026 answer is conditional. A payment before the end of 2026 is possible only if the petition is dropped or quickly denied. No administrator has announced a date.
Will You Get a Payment?
Only if you filed a claim by April 28, 2025. That deadline has passed. Being a class member alone does not trigger a cash payment.
If you filed, your claim was reviewed against the settlement caps. Class counsel says payment timing will come from the settlement administrator and asks class members to keep their contact information current. The administrator for Kia claims can be reached at (844) 966-2773 or through KiaTheftSettlement.com. Hyundai claims run through HyundaiTheftSettlement.com.
Theft on or after April 29, 2025? That falls under a separate program, the Multistate Immobilizer Settlement with the states. It pays on a rolling basis now, while funds last. Claims are allowed for thefts up to March 31, 2027 or until your zinc sleeve is installed, whichever comes first.
How Much Each Person Gets
Total loss: capped at 60% of the vehicle’s Black Book value.
Damage or stolen property: up to $3,375 or 33% of Black Book value, whichever is larger.
Insurance deductible and premium increases: up to $375.
Other costs (towing, rides, tickets): up to $250.
Anti-theft devices bought for cars that could not get the software upgrade: up to $300.
The whole deal is valued at up to $145 million. These are maximums, not promises. If you got a notice approving a specific amount, that is your best guide, but it is not paid until the appeal ends.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 4,111 motor vehicle product liability casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 8% of them filed as class actions:
- 29.8% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 17.1% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 29.8% and 46.9%.
- 4.3% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 84 reached a trial (1.2%), after a median of 30.5 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 10.3 months.
- Almost none record a money award in this data (29 of 4,111), and the recorded figures are capped, so we do not publish an average.

Three Things to Watch For
Long waits on a big-name settlement bring out people who claim they can speed things up:
“Pay a fee to release your Kia payment”
The payment is frozen by a court filing, not by paperwork. No one can unlock it for a fee. A real administrator never charges you to receive your own settlement money.
“Late claim” sites for the $145 million deal
Claims closed April 28, 2025. A site taking new claims for the consumer settlement is not official. The only open Kia/Hyundai claim program covers thefts on or after April 29, 2025, through the multistate settlement site.
Posts with a firm payout date
Social posts and videos promising checks on a set day are guesses. As of October 19, 2026, no administrator has announced a date. Check only KiaTheftSettlement.com or HyundaiTheftSettlement.com.
Kia Theft Settlement Payout — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What is the kia theft settlement payout date?
There is none as of October 19, 2026. Payments are on hold while an objector’s U.S. Supreme Court petition is pending. Per class counsel, the Court returned that petition on October 6, 2026 with 60 days to refile.
How much is the Kia lawsuit going to payout?
It depends on your documented loss. Caps per incident: 60% of Black Book value for a total loss; $3,375 or 33% of Black Book value for damage or stolen property; $375 for insurance costs; $250 for other costs; $300 for anti-theft devices. The settlement is valued at up to $145 million in total.
How long after a class action settlement do I get paid?
Payments start only after approval is final and every appeal is over. Here, approval came October 1, 2024, but appeals have now run for nearly two years. That wait is the reason there is still no date.
Why did the Supreme Court send the petition back?
According to class counsel, the petition was returned for form corrections, and the objector has 60 days to refile. That is not a ruling on the merits. If it is refiled, the Court still has to decide whether to hear it.
I missed the claim deadline. Can I still get money?
Not from this settlement; claims closed April 28, 2025. If your car was stolen or broken into on or after April 29, 2025, check the separate Multistate Immobilizer Settlement, which pays up to $4,500 for a total loss, $2,250 for partial loss and $375 for an attempt.
Has Kia fixed the theft issue?
The companies offer a free software upgrade, and under the 35-state settlement, a free zinc sleeve that reinforces the ignition cylinder, installed at authorized dealers. Neither is part of the cash payout discussed on this page.
Do I need to do anything while I wait?
Keep your contact and payment details current with the settlement administrator, and keep any claim-approval notice. Class counsel says payment updates will come from the administrator.
What is the new appeal on the docket in October 2026?
A notice of appeal to the Ninth Circuit was entered October 16, 2026 in the MDL. We could not read it, and the MDL includes cases besides the consumer settlement. Until it is clear, treat it as unconfirmed news, not a new delay.
