If a message from distribution@BCBSsettlement.com landed in your inbox, it is the real Blue Cross Blue Shield antitrust settlement paying out — not a new lawsuit and not a scam by default. The $2.67 billion subscriber settlement started its initial distribution on May 11, 2026, under a court order dated April 24, 2026. The email carries an activation code for a virtual prepaid card. You cannot file a new claim: that deadline was November 5, 2021.

What the Settlement Is About
The class action alleges that the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and the independent Blue plans broke antitrust law by agreeing not to compete with each other in selling health insurance and administrative services. The defendants deny all wrongdoing, and no court decided who was right.
The parties settled on October 16, 2020. The deal created a $2.67 billion fund and required changes in how the Blue plans do business. You may be a class member if you were covered by certain Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance or administrative services plans between February 2008 and October 2020.
According to the official FAQ, the roughly $1.9 billion left after court-approved deductions is split into two separate pots: $1.78 billion for individuals, insured groups and their employees, and $120 million for self-funded accounts and their employees. A smaller payout in one pot does not raise the other.
Case Details
The case is In re: Blue Cross Blue Shield Antitrust Litigation, MDL No. 2406, Master File No. 2:13-cv-20000 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The court granted final approval of the subscriber settlement on August 9, 2022, and the Eleventh Circuit issued an order in the appeal on January 26, 2024.
After Judge Proctor resigned from the case, Judge Anna M. Manasco signed the Order Approving Plan of Distribution (Doc. 3420) on April 24, 2026 and directed the administrator, JND Legal Administration, to begin paying on or about May 11, 2026. The official site is BCBSsettlement.com.
A separate $2.8 billion settlement in the same MDL covers healthcare providers who treated Blue patients between July 2008 and October 2024, not patients or policyholders. As of September 14, 2026 the court was still ruling on belated opt-out requests in that provider settlement. Provider emails come from a different site and are not what this page covers.
Status: Paying Out Since May 11, 2026
— A share of $5.00 or less is not paid at all.
— A share under $200 is paid in full in the first round, and that is the end of it.
— A share of $200 or more receives 90% now. The other 10% is held in reserve for late disputes, taxes and administration costs.
Whatever remains, plus money from uncashed checks, goes into a Second Distribution for people in the $200-plus group who cashed their first payment and would get at least $5.01. Further rounds may follow at six-month intervals while they are cost-effective. As of October 13, 2026, the official site still describes the initial distribution and lists no date for a second one. Our report on what the 90% rule means for your email walks through the arithmetic.
Who Gets the BCBS Settlement Email
Only Damages Class members who filed a valid claim by November 5, 2021 are paid. JND reported 8,421,346 claims filed; it recommended 7,774,992 for approval and 646,354 for rejection, mostly because they matched no class record or were duplicates.
The BCBS settlement email goes to people who chose a prepaid card. It contains a code for a Virtual Visa card. Others were paid by check, PayPal or Venmo. If a PayPal or Venmo payment was not redeemed, the administrator treats it like an undeliverable check and mails a check instead. If the card email bounced, the code goes out by postcard through USPS.

What the Email Is Worth
Deadlines that cost real money: paper checks are void if not cashed within 90 days of the mail date, and reissued checks within 30 days. Once a virtual card is redeemed, the funds do not expire, but after 18 consecutive months of inactivity the card charges $0.75 per month. A card code not redeemed within 12 months, after 3 email reminders, goes back to the settlement fund.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 83,315 other statutory actions casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 11.8% of them filed as class actions:
- 25.6% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 22.4% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 25.6% and 47.9%.
- 7.4% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 156 reached a trial (0.6%), after a median of 21.8 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 4.9 months.
- Only 1,756 of them (2.1%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $199,500.

Three Things to Watch For
Millions of real BCBS settlement emails make a perfect cover for fake ones. The administrator itself told the court it bought up hundreds of lookalike web addresses because spoofing was expected:
A lookalike sender or redemption link
The real payment email comes from distribution@BCBSsettlement.com, and the official place to redeem the card is settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com: click “Activate My Card,” then “Enter activation code instead.” Any other domain, even one letter off, is not the administrator. Type the address yourself instead of clicking.
“File your BCBS claim now”
The claim deadline passed on November 5, 2021, and a second distribution is not a new claim window. A message urging you to file, register or pay a fee to join is not from the settlement.
“Update your address or bank details here”
The official site offers no address-change form. If a check bounced, the administrator searches for a new address itself and reissues on written request. Questions go to info@BCBSsettlement.com or (888) 681-1142 — not to a link in an unexpected email.
BCBS Settlement Email — Questions People Actually Ask
Is the Blue Cross settlement email legitimate?
Yes, if it comes from distribution@BCBSsettlement.com and sends you to settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com to redeem a card. The official settlement website names both. Earlier notice emails came from Notice@BCBSsettlement.com. Check the actual sender address, not just the display name. For a closer look at the site itself, see is BCBSsettlement.com legitimate.
What happened to the Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement?
It is paying out. The $2.67 billion settlement won final approval on August 9, 2022. After appeals, Judge Anna M. Manasco approved the distribution plan on April 24, 2026, and payments began on May 11, 2026. For the latest developments, see our BCBS settlement update.
How do I determine my BCBS settlement amount?
Your share is pro rata: your total premiums paid (or administrative fees, for self-funded accounts) divided by the total for all valid claims, times the fund. Shares of $5.00 or less are not paid. Under $200 is paid in full; at $200 or more you get 90% now and may get more in a second distribution.
What does ASO amount mean in the BCBS settlement?
ASO stands for administrative services only, the arrangement used by self-funded employer plans. Per the official FAQ, the ASO column shows Total Administrative Fees Paid. If your premium column is zero and the ASO column has dollars, your payment comes from the separate $120 million self-funded fund, not the $1.78 billion fund.
Is there a BCBS settlement email login?
There is no account to log into for the payment. You redeem the card with the activation code from the email at settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com. To check where your payment stands, use the Check Your Claim Status page on BCBSsettlement.com with your Claim Number or Unique ID.
I chose a prepaid card but never got the email. What now?
Search your spam folder for distribution@BCBSsettlement.com. If the email bounced, the code is mailed by postcard. Otherwise contact JND at info@BCBSsettlement.com, (888) 681-1142, or BCBS Settlement, c/o JND Legal Administration, PO Box 91390, Seattle, WA 98111. Act within 12 months: unredeemed card funds return to the fund after that.
When will the second BCBS settlement payment come?
No date has been set as of October 13, 2026. A second distribution happens only after the first round is complete. It goes to people with shares of $200 or more who cashed or redeemed their first payment and would receive at least $5.01. If you were paid in full under $200, you get nothing more.
I'm a doctor or hospital. Is this my settlement?
No. Providers have a separate $2.8 billion settlement in the same MDL for those who treated Blue patients between July 2008 and October 2024, with its own website. Our BCBS provider settlement calculator covers that case; this page covers only the subscriber payout.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
