What the Lawsuits Say Happened
Equinox, Inc. describes itself in the court papers as a nonprofit community organization that provides human services to individuals and families in New York’s Capital Region. On April 29, 2024, according to its own notice letter, an incident disrupted access to parts of its network. On September 16, 2024 it determined that some people’s personal or protected health information may have been affected. Letters went out on or about November 15, 2024.
Per the settlement documents, the data involved may include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, health insurance information, treatment or diagnosis information, medication-related information, financial information, provider name and MRN/patient ID. The lawsuits allege negligence, breach of implied contract, breach of fiduciary duty and unjust enrichment. Equinox denies the claims, and its notice stated it had no evidence the information had been misused.
Case details
Two cases are being settled together in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Albany County, which is a state trial court: McHugh v. Equinox, Inc., Index No. 911677-24, filed November 23, 2024, and Carter v. Equinox, Inc., Index No. 901198-25. Per the settlement agreement, the Carter case was first filed in federal court, then dismissed and re-filed in state court so the two cases could be coordinated. The preliminary approval order was entered on June 25, 2026 and is signed by Justice Richard Platkin. Angeion Group is the claims administrator. Official site: EquinoxIncSettlement.com.

Who Is in the Settlement Class
You are a class member if you live in the United States and Equinox, Inc. sent you a notice that your information may have been affected by the April 2024 incident. These were clients and employees of the Albany nonprofit. Having a membership at the Equinox gym chain does not make you a class member.
The practical test is your mail. If you have the November 2024 letter from Equinox, Inc., keep it. Not sure? Call the administrator toll-free at 1-844-943-4276 or email info@EquinoxIncSettlement.com.
How Much the Equinox Settlement Pays
— Documented losses: up to $5,000, with proof of costs caused by the incident.
— Pro rata cash: estimated at about $100. This is whatever money is left after fees, administration, credit monitoring and loss claims, split among valid claims. It can go up or down.
— Credit monitoring: three years of one-bureau monitoring with identity theft insurance of up to $1,000,000.
Class counsel can ask for up to one-third of the fund, which is $228,333.33. The two named plaintiffs can ask for up to $2,500 each. If you spread the whole fund evenly across 21,565 people, it comes to about $31.76 each before any deductions. The $100 estimate is not fixed: it moves up or down with the number of valid claims filed. You can be paid by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, virtual prepaid card or check, but only after final approval.

Three Things to Watch For
A small settlement that shares its name with a famous gym brand attracts confusion and imposters:
“Equinox members, claim your cash” posts
Some ads and posts suggest Equinox gym members are owed money. They are not. The class is only people who got a breach letter from Equinox, Inc. in Albany. A claim based on a gym membership is not valid, and a site that asks for one is probably collecting your data.
Look-alike claim sites
The only official site is EquinoxIncSettlement.com, and the official phone line is 1-844-943-4276. Filing a claim is free. Anyone who asks for a fee or your full bank login to “release your payment” is not the administrator.
“Late claim” and “payment ready” messages
The claim deadline is October 23, 2026, and nothing pays out before final approval. Before November 12, 2026, a message saying your Equinox payment is ready is false. Check any later message against the official site.
Equinox Data Breach — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
Is the Equinox data breach settlement about the Equinox gym?
No. The defendant is Equinox, Inc., a nonprofit community organization in Albany, New York, that provides human services in the Capital Region. Our earlier explainer covers the mix-up.
How do I know if I was a part of a data breach?
For this case, check whether you got a notice letter from Equinox, Inc. dated around November 15, 2024. Only people sent that notice are in the class. If you are unsure, the administrator answers at 1-844-943-4276 and info@EquinoxIncSettlement.com.
What is the typical payout per person for a data breach settlement?
In this case, the claim form estimates about $100 pro rata cash, which can go up or down. Separately, you can claim up to $5,000 for documented losses plus three years of credit monitoring. Divided evenly across all 21,565 people notified, $685,000 would be about $31.76 each, so the $100 figure depends on how many valid claims are filed. Try our data breach settlement calculator.
When is the Equinox claim deadline?
Claims must be submitted online or postmarked by October 23, 2026. The notice does not state a time zone. The deadline to opt out or object was September 23, 2026.
When will Equinox settlement payments be sent?
Only after the court grants final approval and the settlement becomes final, including after any appeals. The final approval hearing is November 12, 2026. Credit-monitoring codes are due within 30 days of the settlement’s Effective Date.
Is there a class action lawsuit against Chevy Equinox?
That is a separate matter that has nothing to do with this data breach. The Chevrolet Equinox car cases are covered on our Chevy Equinox lawsuit page.
What data was exposed in the Equinox data breach?
Per the settlement notice: names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, health insurance information, treatment or diagnosis information, medication-related information, financial information, provider name and MRN/patient ID. Your own letter shows which of these applied to you.
Did Equinox admit wrongdoing?
No. Equinox denies the claims and says it did nothing wrong, and no court has ruled for either side. The settlement avoids the cost and risk of continuing the lawsuit.
