The tuna settlement payout date was September 8, 2026: approved claimants in the $152.2 million End Purchaser settlement were paid by mailed check or PayPal. When the Tuna Settlement Paid
Tuna settlement check payout date: September 8, 2026. That is the date the official settlement website gives: “Payments for approved claims were issued on September 8, 2026.” If your claim was approved, the money went to the mailing address on your claim or to the PayPal address you listed.
Why so late, when the claim deadline was December 31, 2024? The companies paid in installments. The court's July 27, 2026 order notes StarKist's final payment arrived in December 2025 and Chicken of the Sea's in March 2026, and the money was held until all of it was in hand rather than paid out in several costly rounds.
The separate direct purchaser settlement — for businesses that bought tuna directly from the packers — is a different case and paid earlier: its administrator says payments were issued on March 17, 2026.
Case Details
The payout was authorized by Judge Dana M. Sabraw of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in In re: Packaged Seafood Products Antitrust Litigation, No. 3:15-md-02670-DMS-MSB (MDL 2670). On July 27, 2026 (Document 3441) the court granted the End Payor Plaintiffs' motion for final disbursement, approved the administrator's decisions on which claims were valid, and ruled that a check not cashed within sixty (60) days of issuance or re-issuance “will lapse and any entitlement to recovery will be forfeited.”

Tuna Settlement Check Status, October 2026
What went wrong. On September 16, 2026, JND and BankUnited, the bank holding the distribution account, learned that approximately 22,850 checks out of roughly 400,000 had been “improperly dishonored” when deposited — BankUnited's fraud filters misflagged them. Class counsel told the court the money was never at risk: “No settlement funds have been affected.” PayPal payments were not affected.
The fix. Per the September 30, 2026 court update, replacement checks went to 20,998 affected class members on September 28, 2026, each with an extra $20 for bank fees. About 1,800 others had additional problems and JND says it is working with them individually.

Who Gets a Tuna Settlement Check
Only people who filed a claim and had it approved. Nobody was paid automatically. The deadline was December 31, 2024; the court also accepted 310 late claims filed within a 120-day grace period ending April 30, 2025, and every claim after that was denied. Across all settlements, 980,568 claims were filed.
Did you get the bank-error email? The official site is blunt: the affected group is “only those whose checks were dishonored after being deposited,” and all of them received an email. If you got no such email, your check was not affected — and if it is still uncashed, the administrator says it is safe to deposit.
Who was in the class at all is explained on our tuna settlement page.
How Much the Tuna Settlement Paid
What the court record does show: the fund was $152.2 million ($130 million from StarKist, $6 million from the Lion Companies, $16.2 million from the earlier Chicken of the Sea settlement). After attorneys' fees of about $48.3 million, expenses and administration, the net fund stood at about $97.5 million on June 1, 2026. Per-can figures and four-figure amounts circulating on forums and aggregator sites are estimates or individual reports, not administrator data.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 6,924 antitrust casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 37.3% of them filed as class actions:
- 19.1% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 14.5% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 19.1% and 33.6%.
- 11.4% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 119 reached a trial (0.8%), after a median of 37.1 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 11.9 months.
- Almost none record a money award in this data (33 of 6,924), and the recorded figures are capped, so we do not publish an average.

Three Things to Watch For
A bounced-check problem with an email notice is an opening for imposters:
“Your tuna check bounced — confirm your bank details”
Replacements were mailed as paper checks to the same address as the original; the administrator cannot reissue a payment through PayPal. A message asking for your bank login or account number to “release” a replacement is not from JND. Verify at 866-615-0977 or TunaEndPurchaserSettlement.com.
“Late filing” or “claim recovery” for a fee
Claims closed December 31, 2024, and the court denied everything received after April 30, 2025. Nobody can get you into this distribution now, for any price.
Calls about your $20 bank-fee refund
The extra $20 was printed into the replacement check. Bank fees above $20 are handled by emailing documentation to info@TunaEndPurchaserSettlement.com — not by a phone call asking you to verify your Social Security number.
Tuna Settlement Check — Questions People Actually Ask
What is the tuna settlement payout date?
September 8, 2026. Approved claims in the $152.2 million End Purchaser settlement were paid that day by mailed check or PayPal. Replacement checks for bounced payments followed on September 28, 2026.
When to expect a settlement payment if I have not received mine?
Mailed checks went out September 8, 2026, so allow normal mail time. If nothing arrived, your address may have changed: send the administrator your full name, claim number, and current and former addresses to request a reissue. If your claim was worth under $5.00, no payment was issued.
How do I check my tuna settlement check status?
Call JND at 866-615-0977 and press 8 for a live agent, or email info@TunaEndPurchaserSettlement.com with your claim number. Mail goes to Tuna End Purchaser Settlement, c/o JND Legal Administration, PO Box 91442, Seattle, WA 98111.
My tuna settlement check bounced. What do I do?
Nothing — and do not redeposit the original. If you got the administrator's email about the bank problem, a replacement check with an extra $20 was mailed September 28, 2026 to the same address. If your bank charged more than $20, email documentation of the fees to info@TunaEndPurchaserSettlement.com.
Is my uncashed tuna settlement check still good?
If you did not get the bank-problem email, yes — the administrator says there are sufficient funds and the check is safe to deposit. But checks lapse sixty days after issuance under the July 27, 2026 order; for checks issued September 8, that is early November 2026. Read the date printed on your check and cash it before then.
Can I switch from a check to PayPal?
No. The administrator says it cannot change a payment from mailed check to PayPal or reissue a payment through PayPal. If your PayPal email changed since you filed, you can ask for a mailed check instead.
Will there be a second tuna settlement payment?
None is scheduled. After checks expire, class counsel will ask the court what to do with uncashed money. Under the schedule class counsel proposed, a status report is due 120 days after distribution and a final accounting 180 days after — roughly early January and early March 2027. If no further distribution is ordered, leftover funds go to the Consumer Protection Policy Center at the University of San Diego.
I never filed a claim. Can I still get a tuna settlement check?
No. The claim deadline was December 31, 2024, the late-claim grace period ended April 30, 2025, and only approved claims are being paid. Any site offering to file for you now cannot deliver.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
