Settlement Check Expired, Missing, or Card Won’t Activate: What to Do
Questions about this case?
AI Legal Assistant · free · answers in seconds · general information, not legal advice
Your settlement payment did not arrive, arrived and expired, or came as a prepaid card whose code is rejected. In every one of these cases the fix runs through one place: the settlement administrator named on the official settlement website — not the company you sued, not your bank, not a lawyer, and never a site that charges a fee. Act before the void date; after it, a reissue depends on money still being left in the fund.

The Short Answer for Each Problem
Settlement check expired: contact the administrator and ask for a reissue. The FTC’s own rule is typical: if money is still in the fund, “we may be able to reissue your payment” — may, not must. Expiry windows are short; Amazon’s FTC Prime refunds, for example, “expire 60 days after the issue date.”
Settlement check not received: confirm on the official site that your claim was paid, then ask the administrator whether the check was cashed. If it was not, they can stop it and reissue. If it was, ask for a copy of the cashed item and report possible mail theft.
Settlement prepaid card activation fails: make sure you are on the redemption site named by the official settlement website, not one linked in an email you cannot verify. For the Blue Cross Blue Shield subscriber settlement that site is settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com, using “Enter activation code instead.” If the code is still rejected, only the administrator can issue a new one.
Case Details
This is a guide, not a single lawsuit. Payments are made by a court-appointed or agency-contracted administrator — JND, Epiq, Kroll, Angeion, Simpluris, Rust and others. The FTC alone lists five: Analytics Consulting, Epiq Systems, JND Legal Administration, Rust Consulting and Simpluris. Our Kroll administrator page explains how that administrator is reached.
Find the administrator through the official settlement website or the court notice — never through a search ad. If you only have a claim number and no website, our claim ID lookup guide explains where those numbers come from.
Status: Several Large Payouts Are Mailing Right Now
The $2.67 billion Blue Cross Blue Shield subscriber settlement began its initial distribution on May 11, 2026, by check and prepaid card; see BCBS check status and what happens if you moved.
Under the FTC’s Amazon Prime order, automatic payments to people who used 11 to 20 Prime benefits a year started October 1, 2026, and refunds continue through April 2027 (our report).
In the canned-tuna settlement, some checks were dishonored by the bank; replacement checks were mailed September 28, 2026 with an extra $20 for bank fees (our report).
Before You Call: What You Need
A reissue is only possible for someone who is already on the payment list. Missing the claim deadline cannot be fixed by calling about a “missing check” — in the BCBS case, for example, claims had to be filed by November 5, 2021.
Have this ready: your claim number or unique ID (BCBS uses a ten-digit code of letters and numbers), the name and address on the claim, the payment method you chose, and — if you have it — the check number, issue date and void date.
For a name change, a death or a spelling error, expect to put it in writing. The FTC says such requests “must” be submitted “in writing by mail or email.” Class-action administrators set their own document requirements, so ask what they need before mailing anything.
Is the Money Still There? The Honest Answer
Cashing the first payment can decide whether you get the second. The FTC says that, generally, “to be eligible for an additional payment, the consumer must have cashed their previous payment.” In the Amazon Prime case, a possible additional payment of up to $149 goes only to consumers who have accepted their earlier payments, and only if accepted payments fall short of the required threshold. With several distributions in the mail at once, the most common avoidable loss is a check or electronic payment left untouched past its void date.
Three Things to Watch For
Payment problems are where settlement scams concentrate, because people are already expecting money and already worried:
“We’ll recover your expired settlement check” for a fee
A reissue is requested from the administrator, free. The FTC never requires upfront fees, and no administrator needs a third party to find your own payment. A fee to “track” or “recover” a check is the scam.
Fake prepaid-card activation emails
A real card email names the official redemption site — for BCBS, the card email comes from distribution@BCBSsettlement.com and the site is settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com. A look-alike asking for your Social Security number, bank login or card PIN to “unlock” the card is phishing.
“Update your address to receive your check” links
Address changes go through the administrator named on the official settlement site. Unsolicited links offering to redirect your payment are a classic way to steal it — type the official address yourself instead of clicking.
Settlement Payment Problems — Questions People Actually Ask
My settlement check expired. Can I still get the money?
Possibly. Contact the administrator and ask for a reissue. The FTC reissues expired checks only if money remains in the fund and generally processes reissues once a month; class-action administrators follow the settlement agreement. Do not try to deposit a check past its void date; ask for a reissue instead.
How long is a settlement check valid?
Only as long as the void date printed on it. Windows vary by case and are often short: Amazon’s FTC Prime refund payments, for example, expire 60 days after the issue date. Read the date the day the check arrives.
My settlement check was not received, but the site says it was paid. What now?
Ask the administrator whether the check has been cashed. If not, they can stop payment and reissue. If it was cashed by someone else, ask for a copy of the cashed item and report it — the U.S. Postal Inspection Service advises contacting the sender as soon as possible when an expected check does not arrive.
USPS says my mail was delivered, but there is no check. Should I file with USPS?
You can — USPS accepts Missing Mail search requests starting 7 days from mailing — but the post office cannot reissue the payment. The administrator can, so contact them first and file with USPS in parallel.
My settlement prepaid card activation code is rejected. What should I do?
Check that you are on the redemption site named by the official settlement website and that you copied the code from the most recent email. For BCBS, use settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com, click Activate My Card, then Enter activation code instead. If it still fails, contact the administrator — for BCBS, info@BCBSsettlement.com or (888) 681-1142.
I moved or changed my name. Can I change where or how I am paid?
Only through the administrator, and only before the payment is issued — afterwards it becomes a reissue. Name changes and payments to an estate usually require a written request with documents. The FTC also runs mailing lists against the postal change-of-address database, so a USPS forwarding order helps.
My bank refused the settlement check. Is it fake?
Not necessarily. In the tuna settlement some genuine checks were dishonored after being deposited; the administrator mailed replacement checks with $20 added. Call the number on the official settlement website (for tuna, 866-615-0977, option 8), not the number on a letter you cannot verify.
It has been months and I have heard nothing. Is my payment lost?
Usually it is just slow: many settlements pay only after approval, appeals and full funding. Check the official site’s status page, confirm your claim was approved, and keep your claim number. See open class action settlements for current timelines.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
