Two different CDCR settlements are behind most “CDCR settlement payout” searches. The data breach settlement (Thomas v. CDCR) has finished paying — the full case is on our CDCR data breach settlement page. The pregnancy accommodation settlement for CDCR employees (Carreon v. CDCR) mailed its checks on October 14, 2025, and any check not cashed by October 14, 2026 becomes void.

Which CDCR Settlement Paid What
This page covers payment only. For the breach itself, the class definition and the claim rules, see the CDCR data breach settlement page.
Data breach (Thomas): a $1,800,000 fund. The official site states: “Settlement payments have been completed.” People in custody were paid through their institution.
Pregnancy accommodation (Carreon): a $5,100,000 settlement for CDCR employees who were pregnant while working there between June 15, 2015 and May 31, 2020. Checks went out October 14, 2025, with a minimum of $722.
Correctional supervisors (wage case): a separate $155 million settlement reported in 2022. Its official site blocked our access, so we could not confirm its payment status.
Case Details
Thomas, et al. v. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Case No. 34-2022-00328693, Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, Judge Jill H. Talley. The court granted final approval at a hearing on June 13, 2025. Administrator: CPT Group, Inc. Official site: cdcrdataclassactionsettlement.com.
Carreon, et al. v. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Case No. 19STCV09935, together with Bagube, Case No. 20STCV10154, Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Judge Elihu M. Berle. The final approval order is dated July 18, 2025. Administrator: Simpluris, Inc. Official site: cdcrpregnancysettlement.com.
Both cases are in state court, not federal court.
Status: One Paid, One With Checks Expiring October 14, 2026
Pregnancy (Carreon) — last days to cash. On October 14, 2025, the administrator mailed checks to all eligible class members. The official site states that checks “may be cashed through October 14, 2026, which is 365 days from the date the checks were issued.” After that date, uncashed checks are void. That money goes back to the fund and is redistributed to members who had a reasonable-accommodation request on record. No date for that second payment has been announced.
Who Got Paid Automatically
Data breach (Thomas): if you received a Postcard Notice, a payment was allocated to you without a claim. It was mailed to the address on that postcard, and the FAQ says it was your job to update that address. If you did not get a postcard, you had to file a claim by February 14, 2025, a deadline that has passed. According to the final approval order, 283,405 people were paid from class data and 43,783 through claims, for 327,188 shares in total.
Pregnancy (Carreon): there was no claim form. Every class member who did not opt out and had at least one identified pregnancy during the class period received a check.
Status check: Thomas: CPT Group, 1-888-735-6130, (949) 428-1005, or CDCRDataClassActionSettlement@cptgroup.com. Carreon: 888-369-6078 or info@CDCRPregnancySettlement.com.
How Much Each CDCR Settlement Paid
Thomas (paid, amount not published): the court approved $599,999.99 in attorneys’ fees, $10,682.69 in expenses, service awards capped at $10,000, and administration costs of up to $599,999.99. Our own estimate, not an official figure: if administration costs reached that cap, about $1.77 per share was left across 327,188 shares. For people in custody or on parole, CDCR first deducts any restitution owed, and liens are paid from the payment as well.

Three Things to Watch For
Most of these class members are current or former prisoners and CDCR staff, a group that can be targeted by name. Watch for:
“Pay a fee to release your CDCR settlement check”
Neither administrator charges a fee. Real contact comes from cptgroup.com (Thomas) or CDCRPregnancySettlement.com (Carreon), or from the phone numbers on the official sites.
“Reissue” offers for a check you never cashed
If your Carreon check is missing, call 888-369-6078 yourself. Never give your Social Security number or bank login to someone who contacted you first.
New “CDCR data breach claim” forms
The Thomas claim deadline was February 14, 2025, and the site no longer accepts claims. Any form that asks you to file a Thomas claim now is not real.
CDCR Settlement Checks — Questions People Actually Ask
What is the CDCR settlement payout date?
It depends on the settlement. Pregnancy (Carreon) checks were mailed October 14, 2025. Data breach (Thomas) payments are complete according to the official site, which no longer shows the date. Our case page notes that an archived version of the site from September 2025 expected payments by the end of that month.
How long are CDCR settlement checks good for?
Carreon checks can be cashed through October 14, 2026, which is 365 days after they were issued, and are void after that date. The Thomas site does not publish a cashing deadline, so call CPT Group at 1-888-735-6130 if you are holding an uncashed Thomas check.
I was in custody. Where did my data breach payment go?
The official site says payments for incarcerated class members are sent directly to the correctional institution. If you owe restitution, CDCR collects it from the payment first. Liens are also deducted.
How much was the CDCR settlement payout?
Carreon paid at least $722 per person. Thomas has not published a per-person amount. Based on the approved fees and the cap on administration costs, our estimate is about $1.77 per share; this is not an official figure.
I never got my pregnancy settlement check. What now?
Contact the Simpluris administrator at info@CDCRPregnancySettlement.com or 888-369-6078. Do it before October 14, 2026, because checks not cashed by that date become void.
Will there be a second CDCR payment?
For Carreon, yes, but only for members with a reasonable-accommodation request on record. Money from uncashed checks is redistributed to them after October 14, 2026, and no date has been announced. For Thomas, no second distribution has been announced.
What does CDCR stand for?
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the state prison agency and the defendant in both settlements.
Is there a CDCR supervisors settlement payout?
A $155 million settlement for more than 10,000 current and retired prison supervisors was reported in 2022 as tentatively approved by a San Francisco judge. Its official site blocked our access, so we cannot confirm a payout date here.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
