PowerSchool Settlement Payout Date: No Date Announced Yet
Settled — Claims Period Closed
Claim deadline was July 27, 2026 · as of Oct 19, 2026
As of October 19, 2026, no payment date and no per-person amount have been published for the $17.25 million Naviance settlement. The court granted final approval on August 19, 2026, and the claim window closed July 27, 2026. The settlement agreement sets a payment window counted from the date approval becomes final, not a calendar date. Only people who filed a valid claim will be paid.

The Short Answer on the Payout
This page covers only the money: when the Naviance settlement pays and how much. For what the case is about and who was covered, see our PowerSchool and Naviance lawsuit overview.
When: no announced date. The settlement agreement says payments to approved claimants “shall be made within forty-five (45) days after the Effective Date.” The Effective Date comes ten days after the court’s judgment becomes final, and the judgment becomes final one business day after the time to appeal runs out.
How much: unknown. Each valid claimant gets a pro rata share of what is left of the fund after fees and costs. No per-person figure has been published.
So the honest answer to “naviance lawsuit payout date” is: not set, and dependent on whether anyone appealed.
Case details
Q.J. v. PowerSchool Holdings LLC, et al., No. 1:23-cv-05689, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, before Judge Jorge L. Alonso. The court appointed Kroll Settlement Administration LLC as Settlement Administrator; Kroll handles the payments, by check or electronic payment. The official settlement website is powerschoolnaviancesettlement.com. The court’s schedule set the claim deadline for July 27, 2026 and the final approval hearing for August 19, 2026 in Courtroom 1903 of the Dirksen courthouse in Chicago.
Status: Approved, Claims Closed, Payment Date Not Announced
The timing rules in the settlement agreement work like this:
1. The judgment becomes “Final” one business day after the time to appeal it expires. An appeal of the fee award alone does not hold this up.
2. The Effective Date is ten days after that.
3. Payments are due within 45 days after the Effective Date.
Our own arithmetic, not an announced date: if the judgment was entered on August 19, 2026 and nobody appealed, the 30-day appeal window ended September 18, 2026, the judgment became final September 21, the Effective Date fell around October 1, and the 45-day window runs to about November 15, 2026. Two caveats: we could not confirm whether an appeal was filed, and the official website, which blocked our access, is the place any change to the schedule would be posted. An appeal on the merits would push payment back until it is resolved.
Who Gets a Payment
Only class members who submitted a valid claim form by July 27, 2026. Some early school-district notices listed May 26, 2026; the court’s March 26, 2026 order replaced that with July 27, 2026. We found no late-claim option.
Being in the class is not enough. PowerSchool identified over 10 million people who could be eligible, but payments go only to approved claims. If you filed, keep your Kroll confirmation email or claim number: that is what you will need if you have to ask about your payment.
How Much Each Person Gets
• The fund is $17,250,000. Defendants pay $5,000,000 within 25 days of preliminary approval and the remaining $12,250,000 within 25 days of final judgment.
• Out of it come administration costs, the attorneys’ fee award and a service award for the named plaintiff. Class counsel agreed to ask for no more than 37% of the fund; up to $6,382,500 was requested. We could not confirm the amount the court awarded.
• What remains is split pro rata among valid claims. With a class this large, the number of claims filed decides the size of each check far more than anything else.
Checks expire if not cashed within 180 days. Unclaimed money is redistributed to people who cashed their payments if each would receive at least $5.00; otherwise it goes, subject to court approval, to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 182,728 other civil rights casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 1.2% of them filed as class actions:
- 19% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 9.1% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 19% and 28.1%.
- 15.1% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 63 reached a trial (1.6%), after a median of 31.2 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 7 months.
- Only 1,316 of them (0.7%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $248,500.

Naviance Settlement Payment Timeline
March 26, 2026 — Amended Preliminary Approval
Judge Alonso signs the order that sets the schedule and appoints Kroll as Settlement Administrator.
July 27, 2026 — Claim Deadline
Last day to submit a claim form. Only people who filed by this date can be paid.
August 19, 2026 — Final Approval
The court grants final approval of the $17.25 million settlement after the fairness hearing.
September 18, 2026 — Appeal Window Closes (Estimate)
Our estimate, assuming judgment was entered August 19: the 30-day period to appeal ends. An appeal on the merits would delay everything after this.
About November 15, 2026 — Agreement’s Payment Window Ends (Estimate)
If no appeal was filed, payments fall due within 45 days after the Effective Date, which on our count lands around this date. This is arithmetic, not an announced date.
Now — Waiting on Kroll
As of October 19, 2026, no payment date or per-person amount is published. Watch the official site and your email.
Three Things to Watch For
A big student class, a closed claim window and a payment still pending is exactly when fake “payment” messages show up:
“Confirm your bank details to receive your Naviance payment”
You chose your payment method on the claim form. A message asking you to re-enter a bank account, card number or Social Security number through a link is not how Kroll pays. Check against the official site by typing its address yourself.
Offers to “reopen” a missed claim for a fee
The claim deadline was July 27, 2026, and filing was always free. Nobody can sell you a late claim or a bigger share.
A “PowerSchool data breach payout”
The PowerSchool data breach is a separate federal case, MDL 3:25-md-03149, with no settlement, no fund and no claim form as of September 30, 2026. Any “breach settlement payment” notice is not this money.
PowerSchool Payout — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What is the PowerSchool settlement payout date?
None has been announced as of October 19, 2026. The agreement requires payment within 45 days after the Effective Date, which follows final approval, the appeal window and a ten-day buffer. If no appeal was filed, our count points to around November 15, 2026, but that is our arithmetic, not an official date.
Did PowerSchool have a class action lawsuit?
Yes, more than one. The Naviance case, Q.J. v. PowerSchool Holdings LLC (No. 1:23-cv-05689, N.D. Ill.), settled for $17.25 million; that is the payout on this page. The PowerSchool data breach case is a separate MDL with no settlement. Our overview page covers both.
How much will each person get from the Naviance settlement?
No figure has been published. Valid claimants split the $17.25 million fund pro rata after administration costs, attorneys’ fees and a service award. The more valid claims were filed, the smaller each share.
How much money do people usually get in a class action lawsuit?
It depends on the fund size and the number of claims, not on a set rate. Here, a fixed fund is divided among valid claims, so nobody can quote a per-person amount until Kroll finishes reviewing them. Our payout calculator shows how claim rates change a pro rata share.
I got a Naviance settlement email. Is it legit?
The settlement used email as its main notice method, and reminder emails were planned before the claim deadline, so a genuine email was normal. Now that claims are closed, be wary of any message asking for bank details, fees or your Social Security number. Go to the official site directly rather than clicking a link.
How will I be paid — check or electronic?
Kroll pays by check or electronic payment, based on what you chose when you filed. Checks void after 180 days, so cash yours promptly.
I missed the July 27, 2026 deadline. Can I still get paid?
We found no late-claim option. Only valid claims submitted by July 27, 2026 are paid. Ask Kroll through the official site if you believe you filed and have no confirmation.
Is the naviance lawsuit payout date the same as the PowerSchool data breach payout?
No. The Naviance settlement is the only one that pays. The PowerSchool data breach MDL had no settlement and no claim form as of September 30, 2026, so there is no breach payout date at all.
