Chime Settlement Payout Date: No Public Date, How the Checks Work
Reference Guide
As of October 19, 2026, no Chime settlement payout date has been published, and there is no open Chime class settlement to file for. The money most people mean is the 2024 CFPB order over late refund checks on closed accounts. Chime mails those checks itself, without a claim form, and the mailing date has not been made public.

Which Chime Payout You Are Asking About
This page covers only the money: who pays, how much and when. For the background on each case, see our Chime settlement overview.
Three different things get called the “Chime settlement payout”:
1. The CFPB order of May 7, 2024. Chime must pay at least $1.3 million to former customers whose closing-balance refund checks were late.
2. A California DFPI order from February 2024. Its $2.5 million penalty was paid to the state, not to customers.
3. The settlement over the October 2019 outage, Richards v. Chime Financial, which dates from 2020.
Only the first is a per-person payment tied to a current order.
Case details
The CFPB matter is an administrative proceeding, File No. 2024-CFPB-0002, filed May 7, 2024. As of October 19, 2026, the CFPB docket lists its status as “Post Order/Post Judgment.” The order runs for five years. Its $3.25 million penalty goes to the CFPB’s victims relief fund, not to individual customers.
The outage case was Richards v. Chime Financial, Inc., No. 19-cv-06864-HSG, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Status: No Published Payment Date
1. Within 10 days of May 7, 2024, Chime had to set aside at least $1.3 million.
2. Within 60 days, it had to send the CFPB a written Redress Plan.
3. No later than 60 days after the CFPB’s Enforcement Director signed off on that plan, Chime had to mail all initial checks.
The sign-off date is not public, so the mailing date cannot be worked out from public records. Chime’s annual report for 2025 lists charges for the order “and related redress payments,” but gives no mailing date and no count of cashed checks.
The April 2026 lawsuits: after a service disruption on April 1, 2026, three proposed class actions were filed. The plaintiffs allege a hacker group stole customer personal information; they are data-incident cases, not refund-check cases. Federal court data we checked lists all three as closed between May 19 and June 5, 2026. We could not read the closing orders, and we found no settlement.
Who Gets the CFPB Refund-Delay Payment
You are in the group if all of these apply:
— your Chime checking or savings account was closed between January 1, 2018 and May 7, 2024;
— you were owed a closing refund of $1 or more;
— Chime took longer than 14 days to process the refund check it mailed you, and the account was not reopened.
Accounts opened with stolen or synthetic identities are excluded.
There is nothing to file. Chime identifies the people from its own records. It checks for a newer address through the National Change of Address system, then mails a check with a notice that says the payment is made under the consent order.
How Much the Chime Payout Is per Person
$25 if your balance 14 days after closure was $10 or less.
$150 or more if it was above $10. You get the higher of $150 or 30% annual interest on your refund, counted from day 14 until Chime processed the check.
The total is at least $1.3 million across all affected former members. The $3.25 million CFPB penalty and the $2.5 million California penalty are not paid out to customers.
For the April 2026 lawsuits there is no settlement, no fund and no claim form, so there is no per-person amount.
For reference, the 2020 Richards outage settlement offered up to $25 without documentation or up to $750 with documented losses, from tiers of $4 million and $1.5 million. We found no open claim process for it today.
Chime Payout Timeline
January 1, 2018 — Covered Period Begins
Accounts closed from this date until the CFPB order took effect count, if Chime took longer than 14 days to process the refund check.
October 16, 2019 — The Outage Case
A roughly 72-hour outage leads to Richards v. Chime Financial (No. 19-cv-06864-HSG). Its 2020 settlement offered up to $25, or up to $750 with documentation.
February 2024 — California DFPI Order
Chime agrees to a $2.5 million penalty paid to California’s DFPI over customer-service handling. The money goes to the state.
May 7, 2024 — CFPB Order
File No. 2024-CFPB-0002: a $3.25 million penalty and at least $1.3 million in redress for late refund checks. Checks are due 60 days after the CFPB signs off on Chime’s plan.
April 2026 — Data-Incident Lawsuits Filed
Chime acknowledged a service disruption on April 1. Three proposed class actions are filed on April 3, 7 and 17, alleging a hacker group stole customer personal information in that attack. Chime says the claims are without merit.
October 2026 — Still No Public Payment Date
Court data lists the three April cases as closed (May 19 to June 5, 2026), with no settlement found. The CFPB order is in its post-order phase.
Three Things to Watch For
“Chime settlement payout” has no official claims website, and that gap gets filled by pages and calls that look official:
“Chime Settlement Payout 2026” claim guides
Search results include uploaded PDFs styled as official claim rules, with a phone number repeated throughout. The CFPB payment has no claim form and no number to call to apply.
Requests for your Chime login to release a payment
The redress is a paper check sent by first-class mail with a notice. Nobody needs your app password, card PIN or a one-time code to send it.
Fees to “recover” an uncashed check
If a check came back or was never cashed, the order has Chime hold the money and pay it on proof of identity. Anyone charging a fee for that is not part of the process.
Chime Payout — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What is the Chime settlement payout date?
As of October 19, 2026, none has been published. Under the 2024 CFPB order, Chime had to mail all initial checks no later than 60 days after the CFPB signed off on its Redress Plan. That sign-off date is not public.
Is there a Chime settlement right now?
Not one you can file for, as far as we found as of October 2026. The CFPB order of May 7, 2024 pays eligible former customers automatically by mailed check. The order’s status on the CFPB docket is “Post Order/Post Judgment.”
Is there a Chime settlement in 2026?
We found none. Castaneda (3:26-cv-02924), Porter (3:26-cv-02998) and Walsh (3:26-cv-03278) were filed in April 2026 in the Northern District of California. Federal court data lists them as closed on June 4, May 19 and June 5, 2026. We could not read the closing orders.
How much is the Chime settlement payout per person?
$25 if your balance 14 days after closure was $10 or less. Otherwise $150, or more if 30% annual interest on the delayed refund adds up to more. Only the CFPB order has a per-person amount.
Do I need to file a claim?
No. Chime finds eligible people in its own records and mails a check by first-class mail with a notice. Nothing is filed online.
My check never came or I lost it. What now?
If a check goes uncashed for 90 days, Chime must try to reach you and re-mail it. After that, it holds the money for 180 days and pays it on proof of identity. Money unclaimed after 365 days goes to the CFPB, which may use it for more redress. You can also file a complaint with the CFPB at (855) 411-2372.
Does the California DFPI order pay Chime customers?
No. Chime’s annual report says the February 2024 DFPI order required a $2.5 million penalty paid to the DFPI. It is not a per-person payment.
What about the 2019 outage settlement?
Richards v. Chime Financial (No. 19-cv-06864-HSG) covered people locked out from October 16 through October 19, 2019. The 2020 settlement offered up to $25, or up to $750 with documentation. We found no open claim process for it now.
