Settled — Claims Period Closed

Siri and Google Assistant Settlements: Both Now Closed

Questions about this case?

AI Legal Assistant · free · answers in seconds · general information, not legal advice

The Google Assistant settlement closed to claims on August 27, 2026; what a claim is worth has not been published yet. Apple's $95 million Siri case is finished and paid about $8 per device, not the $20 that circulated. A third Apple case is often mistaken for it. Here is which is which.

Independent information service: Settlement Insight is not the settlement administrator, is not affiliated with or endorsed by the company named above, and is not a law firm. Submitting this form does not file a claim — it shares your information with our participating legal intake partners, who may contact you about your options.

Class actions evolve fast — eligibility, deadlines, and payouts change. Add your details and we'll connect you with a class-action attorney for a free, no-obligation review and email you status updates on this case.

In plain terms: a law firm that handles this kind of case may call or text you about your options. You can ask them to stop at any time, it costs you nothing either way, and you are never under any obligation to hire anyone.

What These Cases Are About

Both cases make the same core allegation: a voice assistant woke up without anyone saying the wake word, recorded private conversation, and sent the audio to human reviewers for transcription. In Apple's case the claim period covered 2014 to 2024. Google's case alleges the same pattern of so-called false accepts on Assistant-enabled devices, brought under the Stored Communications Act, the California Invasion of Privacy Act and the federal Wiretap Act.

Case Details

Apple: Lopez, et al. v. Apple Inc., No. 4:19-cv-04577-JSW (N.D. Cal.), final approval granted October 16, 2025 by Judge Jeffrey S. White. Google: In re Google Assistant Privacy Litigation, No. 5:19-cv-04286 (N.D. Cal., San Jose Division), $68 million settlement.

Where Each Case Stands Right Now

Google Assistant — CLOSED. The claim deadline passed on August 27, 2026. The official site is GoogleAssistantPrivacyLitigation.com. Payment is not a fixed amount: it works on a points system, up to 4 points per device and a maximum of 3 devices, so 12 points at most; the privacy subclass is capped at 1 point. What a point is worth is calculated only after the claim period closes, and no figure has been published. That date was also the opt-out deadline.

Apple Siri — CLOSED and paid. The claim deadline was July 2, 2025, before final approval. About 2.19 million claims were filed out of an estimated 85.2 million eligible people. Payments went out January 23 to 26, 2026, at roughly $8 per device. Uncashed checks expired June 7, 2026. There is nothing left to file.

Who Could Claim

The Google case closed to claims on August 27, 2026. It covered people in the United States who owned or bought a Google Assistant-enabled device during the class period and had a conversation unintentionally recorded. No receipt or proof of purchase was needed — the claim form worked on attestation, signed under penalty of perjury.

For Apple's Siri case, eligibility no longer matters: the deadline passed in 2025 and the money has been distributed. If you filed and never cashed the check, that window closed on June 7, 2026 as well.

What People Actually Received

Apple Siri paid about $8 per device. Coverage before the payout widely quoted "up to $20 per device" — that was the theoretical maximum written into the settlement, not what landed. The gap between those two numbers is the single most useful thing to know about this case, and it is a good reminder for the Google claim too: an advertised maximum is a ceiling, not a forecast.

Google's per-point value is genuinely unknown until claims close. Anyone quoting you a dollar figure for the Google settlement today is guessing.

Timeline

  1. 1

July 2, 2025 — Apple claim deadline passes

The Siri claim period ends, months before the settlement receives final approval. About 2.19 million claims are filed.

  2. 2

    October 16, 2025 — Apple settlement approved

Judge Jeffrey S. White grants final approval of the $95 million Lopez settlement in the Northern District of California.

  3. 3

Payments are distributed at approximately $8 per device — well below the $20 maximum that had circulated in coverage.

  4. 4

    January 23, 2026 — Google settlement announced

A $68 million settlement is filed in the Google Assistant privacy litigation, with a preliminary approval hearing set for March 19, 2026.

  5. 5

    June 7, 2026 — Apple checks expire

Uncashed Siri settlement checks become void. The Lopez case is now fully closed.

  6. 6

The Confusion Scammers Exploit

There are three different Apple and Google voice cases in circulation, and two of them involve the number 95. That overlap is exactly what fake claim sites rely on.

The other Apple case that also says 95

A separate Apple settlement over delayed Apple Intelligence and "more personalized Siri" features totals $250 million and pays up to $95 per device — there, 95 is the per-device cap, not the fund. Its final approval hearing is not until February 24, 2027, so payments are not expected before 2027. It is a completely different case from Lopez.

Any site still offering a Siri claim form

The Lopez claim period ended July 2, 2025. A page collecting your details for a Siri payout today is collecting them for something else. The only official Lopez site was LopezVoiceAssistantSettlement.com, and it no longer accepts claims.

Anyone promising a specific Google payout figure

Google's amount depends on a point value that has not been published. A precise dollar promise before the court sets it is not information — it is bait.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still file for the Apple Siri settlement?

No. The deadline was July 2, 2025, payments went out in January 2026, and uncashed checks expired on June 7, 2026. The case is closed.

What was the deadline for the Google Assistant settlement?

It was August 27, 2026, and it has passed. That was both the claim deadline and the opt-out deadline. The official site is GoogleAssistantPrivacyLitigation.com.

How much will the Google settlement pay?

Nobody knows yet, and that is not evasion — it is how the settlement is built. You earn points (up to 4 per device, maximum 3 devices), and the dollar value per point is only calculated once the claim period closes and the administrator knows how many valid claims came in. More claims means a smaller value per point.

Why did Apple pay $8 when everyone said $20?

The $20 figure was the maximum per device written into the settlement, payable only if relatively few people claimed. About 2.19 million claims came in, so the fund divided down to roughly $8 per device. This is normal and worth remembering whenever you see an "up to" number attached to any settlement.

Do I need proof that I own the device?

For the Google claim, no receipt is required — you attest to your eligibility under penalty of perjury. That is a legal statement, not a formality: knowingly filing a false claim is fraud, and administrators do screen for suspicious patterns.

Is the $250 million Apple case the same thing?

No. That is a separate case about delayed Apple Intelligence features, paying up to $95 per device, with final approval scheduled for February 24, 2027. It is frequently confused with the $95 million Lopez privacy settlement because of the shared number.

What if I already opted out?

Opting out means you keep the right to sue on your own but receive nothing from the settlement. For a claim worth a few dollars, individual litigation is rarely practical — which is why opt-out rates in cases like these are very low.

Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?

Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
