Camp Lejeune Settlement Payout Date: What Is Paid, When, and How Much
Active Litigation
There is no single Camp Lejeune settlement payout date. Money moves one claim at a time: the government pays an accepted Elective Option offer within 60 days or less, once the payment paperwork is complete. As of September 18, 2026, DOJ reports settlement payouts above $879 million. There is no global settlement, so there is no camp lejeune payout date 2026 for everyone else.

The Short Answer: When Camp Lejeune Money Arrives
This page covers only the payout. For eligibility and an estimate of your own claim, see our Camp Lejeune settlement calculator.
The honest answer to “camp lejeune settlement payout date” is: it depends on which track your claim is in.
You accepted an Elective Option offer: DOJ says you “can expect to receive payment within 60 days or less, provided [you] accurately complete all necessary payment documentation in a timely manner.” The 60-day clock is a target that starts with complete paperwork, not with the offer letter.
Your claim is still with the Navy or in court: no payout date exists. As of October 19, 2026, no global settlement has been announced, and no court has set a date for paying the remaining claims.
Case details
Two official sources publish the payment numbers. DOJ’s Camp Lejeune Justice Act claims page carries the running total. DOJ also files settlement notices in In re: Camp Lejeune Water Litigation, No. 7:23-cv-897, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The court-appointed plaintiffs’ leadership posts those filings on its status reports page.
Payments are made through the Judgment Fund, which DOJ describes as the Bureau of the Fiscal Service office that “pays settlements of lawsuits and administrative claims against the government.” That is why a payment packet includes Judgment Fund forms.
Status: Individual Payments Flowing, No Global Settlement
The latest official totals:
— September 18, 2026 (DOJ): offers above $1.1 billion, payouts above $879 million.
— June 15, 2026 (court notice): $723,850,000 paid across Navy and DOJ, more than $907,550,000 in approved offers.
The bottleneck is proof, not money. The October 2, 2026 joint status report says the Navy’s Camp Lejeune Claims Unit is processing 408,500 de-duplicated claims and that more than 75% of claims reviewed lack enough documents for Elective Option approval. DOJ also says it is “not reconsidering Elective Option determinations and is not accepting additional Elective Option documentation.”
In court, Judge Boyle on September 16, 2026 reset the first two kidney cancer bench trials to October 26, 2026 and November 9, 2026. Trial outcomes are not payment dates.

Who Can Expect a Payment Now
Paid or about to be paid: claimants who received and accepted an Elective Option offer and returned complete payment paperwork. The June 15, 2026 notice counted 2,468 accepted Navy offers, with payments sent on 2,341 of them and 446 offers still pending a response.
Plaintiffs in court with a DOJ offer: for suits filed on or before October 6, 2023, the offer expires after 60 days, and the lawsuit must be dismissed within 14 days of receiving payment.
Estates: the Judgment Fund needs state-specific beneficiary information before it pays a deceased claimant’s settlement, which adds a step.
Everyone else: no date. A claim can stay with the Navy, or the claimant can sue once it is denied or six months have passed, and claims outside the Elective Option depend on trials or a later settlement framework.
How Much Per Person
Tier 1 (kidney, liver and bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemias): $150,000 for 30 to 364 days; $300,000 for one to five years; $450,000 for more than five years.
Tier 2 (multiple myeloma, Parkinson’s disease, kidney disease/end-stage renal disease, systemic sclerosis): $100,000, $250,000 or $400,000 on the same time bands.
A death adds $100,000, so the maximum is $550,000. DOJ says VA will not assert a lien or offset over these payments, and Medicare fee-for-service will not either; Medicare Advantage plans and state Medicaid agencies decide on their own.
Lawyers’ fees come out of the award: at most 20% for administrative settlements and 25% for cases in litigation.
Outside the Elective Option, nothing is fixed. Three bellwether cases settled for $10,000, $24,000 and $405, per DOJ’s June 15, 2026 notice.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 118,291 other personal injury casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 3.9% of them filed as class actions:
- 39.6% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 14% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 39.6% and 53.6%.
- 5.7% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 109 reached a trial (0.9%), after a median of 23.9 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 9 months.
- Only 802 of them (0.7%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $537,500.

Three Things to Watch For
Long waits and big published totals make Camp Lejeune claimants a target:
“Pay a fee to release your check”
Accepted Elective Option settlements are paid through the Treasury’s Judgment Fund after you return the settlement and payment forms. A caller who wants a processing or release fee before your money arrives is not part of that process.
“Sign up before the global settlement deadline”
As of October 19, 2026, no global Camp Lejeune settlement has been announced, so there is no global claim form and no global sign-up deadline. Ads that name one are selling a retainer, or worse.
“We can get your tier upgraded”
DOJ states it is not reconsidering Elective Option determinations and is not accepting additional Elective Option documentation. Anyone charging to re-submit your file for a bigger offer is selling something DOJ says it is not doing.
Camp Lejeune Payout — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What’s the latest on Camp Lejeune settlement payments?
As of September 18, 2026, DOJ reports Camp Lejeune Justice Act settlement offers above $1.1 billion and payouts above $879 million. As of October 19, 2026, no global settlement has been announced. The first two kidney cancer bench trials are set for October 26, 2026 and November 9, 2026.
Is there a Camp Lejeune payout date 2026 for everyone?
No. There is no single date. Each accepted Elective Option offer is paid on its own, within 60 days or less once the payment paperwork is complete, per DOJ. Claims that have not received an offer have no payment date.
How much is the Camp Lejeune payout per person?
Under the Elective Option, $100,000 to $550,000. Tier 1 illnesses pay $150,000, $300,000 or $450,000, and Tier 2 illnesses pay $100,000, $250,000 or $400,000, depending on time on base. A death adds $100,000. Attorney fees of up to 20% (administrative) or 25% (litigation) come out of that.
What are tier 2 diseases in Camp Lejeune?
Under DOJ’s Elective Option guidance, Tier 2 covers multiple myeloma, Parkinson’s disease, kidney disease/end-stage renal disease and systemic sclerosis/systemic scleroderma. Tier 2 offers are $100,000, $250,000 or $400,000.
Can I track my settlement check?
We found no public tracking tool for Camp Lejeune payments. Payment is processed by the Judgment Fund after DOJ receives complete settlement and payment forms, so status questions go to your attorney or to the office that sent your offer. DOJ’s 60-day target only starts once the paperwork is complete.
Can I get VA disability compensation for Camp Lejeune water contamination?
That is a separate VA benefit with its own application, and this page does not cover it; apply through the VA at va.gov. DOJ says accepting an Elective Option offer will not affect your VA benefits, and VA will not assert a lien or offset over the payment.
Will Medicare or Medicaid take part of my payment?
DOJ says Medicare fee-for-service will not assert an offset over Elective Option payments. Medicare Advantage plans and state Medicaid agencies may have paid benefits too, and they decide independently whether to seek recovery.
Why is my claim taking so long?
Mostly documents. The October 2, 2026 joint status report says more than 75% of claims reviewed lack enough documentary evidence for Elective Option approval. The government says it needs proof of diagnosis and of presence at Camp Lejeune before it can make an offer.
