Which Companies Faced the Most Federal Antitrust Lawsuits in FY2025
Original analysis of 1,386 records from the Federal Judicial Center, FY2024–FY2025 (Oct 2023–Sep 2025). Published October 17, 2026.
We counted every new antitrust lawsuit filed in U.S. district courts from October 2024 to September 2025 and grouped them by the first-listed defendant, leaving out transfers and reopened cases.
What the FY2025 antitrust filings show
GoodRx was the first-listed defendant in 30 new federal antitrust lawsuits in fiscal year 2025, more than any other company, just ahead of the NCAA with 29. MultiPlan (24), Blue Cross Blue Shield entities with no state plan named (19) and Google (18) follow. Out of 481 new antitrust lawsuits, the ten most-named first defendants account for 37.8%.
- 30New FY2025 antitrust suits naming GoodRx first
- 481New federal antitrust lawsuits in FY2025
- 38%Share naming one of the top 10 defendants first
GoodRx leads by a single case
GoodRx was named first in 30 new lawsuits and the NCAA in 29. Counting each first-listed plaintiff only once, GoodRx still leads (28 against 25).
The NCAA was sued in the most courts
Lawsuits naming the NCAA first were filed in 21 different district courts; the 30 GoodRx lawsuits were spread over 8.
Health care companies cluster near the top
MultiPlan (24), Blue Cross Blue Shield (19) and Zelis Healthcare (7) are among the most-named first defendants, next to GoodRx.
Last year's leader fell back
Apple was the most-named first defendant in FY2024 with 52 new lawsuits; in FY2025 it was named first in 6.
All antitrust case records fell more than new filings
All antitrust case records fell 27.0% from FY2024 to FY2025, but new lawsuits fell only 9.4%; the difference is mostly fewer reopened and transferred cases.
One court took a fifth of the cases
The Northern District of Illinois received 98 of the 481 new antitrust lawsuits (20.4%).
Which Companies Faced the Most Antitrust Lawsuits in FY2025
GoodRx, the NCAA, MultiPlan, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Google were the most frequent first-listed defendants in new federal antitrust lawsuits filed between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
GoodRx (30) narrowly leads the NCAA (29), followed by MultiPlan (24), Blue Cross Blue Shield (19) and Google (18).
The ranking lists the 29 organizations that were the first-listed defendant in at least three new antitrust lawsuits in FY2025. Together they account for 274 of the 481 new lawsuits (57.0%). The remaining lawsuits are spread over many defendants named first only once or twice, including individuals and government bodies, which are not listed.
GoodRx's lead over the NCAA is one case. According to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, the plaintiffs in the GoodRx cases are independent pharmacies or their associations, who allege that GoodRx and pharmacy benefit managers used GoodRx's price-aggregating algorithm to suppress what pharmacies are paid for generic drugs. Some of these cases were first filed in Rhode Island, dismissed, and refiled in California, so the same dispute can appear in more than one filing. Counting each first-listed plaintiff only once, GoodRx still ranks first with 28, against 25 for the NCAA.
The MultiPlan cases are part of a multidistrict litigation in the Northern District of Illinois over an alleged conspiracy to fix reimbursement rates for out-of-network care. Claritev, named first in the same MDL docket, accounts for another 2 lawsuits, which are counted separately (and fall below the listing threshold) because the source records them under a different name. Lamb Weston (16), Cavendish Farms (9), McCain Foods (4) and the National Potato Promotion Board were together named first in 32 new lawsuits, all in one district court. Four archery names (Archery Trade Association, Hoyt Archery, Bowtech and Hamskea Archery Solutions) account for 23.
A lawsuit count says nothing about whether the claims have merit. It also does not account for company size: a large firm with many customers and competitors has more potential plaintiffs.

FY2025 is the federal fiscal year from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025. Only the first-listed defendant of each lawsuit is counted.
Who Was Sued Most in FY2024
The FY2025 leaders were mostly not the FY2024 leaders: Apple, ASR Group and MultiPlan topped the list a year earlier.
In FY2024, Apple was named first in 52 new antitrust lawsuits; in FY2025 it was named first in 6.
The same count for FY2024 (October 2023 to September 2024) produces a different list. Apple was the first-listed defendant in 52 new antitrust lawsuits, followed by ASR Group and MultiPlan (40). MultiPlan and the NCAA are among the few names near the top in both years; the NCAA rose from 11 to 29. GoodRx was not named first in any new antitrust lawsuit in FY2024.
As the table shows, a name can lead one year and almost disappear from the list the next: ASR Group, Continental AG and Sika were not named first in any new antitrust lawsuit in FY2025. RealPage was named first in 4 new lawsuits in FY2024 and 2 in FY2025.

How Many Antitrust Lawsuits Were Filed in Federal Court in FY2025
U.S. district courts opened 585 antitrust case records in FY2025; 481 of them were new lawsuits.
There were 481 new antitrust lawsuits, down 9.4% from 531 in FY2024.
The federal judiciary's own count, Table C-2 of Judicial Business, reports 591 antitrust civil cases commenced in FY2025 and 800 in FY2024. That count includes cases that arrive in a district by transfer from another district or from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, and cases that are reopened. Our count of all antitrust records in the FJC database is 585 for FY2025 and 801 for FY2024.
For the ranking we keep only new lawsuits: original filings, cases removed from state court, and cases filed directly into a multidistrict litigation. A transferred case is the same lawsuit opened a second time in the receiving court, so counting it would double-count the defendant. This removes 104 records in FY2025. The drop from FY2024 to FY2025 is much smaller for new lawsuits (9.4%) than for all records (27.0%), because FY2024 included many more reopened and MDL-transferred cases.
About 29.3% of the new FY2025 lawsuits (141) were filed with a class action allegation.
Federal antitrust case records by how they reached the court
| How filed | Counted as | FY2025 | FY2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original proceeding | new | 438 | 460 |
| Transferred from another district | transfer | 45 | 36 |
| Transferred by the JPML (MDL) | transfer | 32 | 97 |
| MDL originating in the district | new | 27 | 62 |
| Reinstated or reopened | other | 23 | 128 |
| Removed from state court | new | 16 | 9 |
| Remanded for further action | other | 2 | 3 |
| Reopened again (second or later) | other | 2 | 6 |
“New” = original proceeding, removal from state court, or direct filing into an MDL (FJC origin codes 1, 2 and 13).
Which Federal Courts Get the Most Antitrust Lawsuits
The Northern District of Illinois received about a fifth of all new antitrust lawsuits in FY2025.
Northern District of Illinois: 98 of 481 new lawsuits (20.4%), across 66 districts in total.
New antitrust lawsuits were filed in 66 of the federal district courts in FY2025. The Northern District of Illinois led with 98, which includes the MultiPlan MDL and the Lamb Weston, Cavendish Farms and McCain Foods cases. The Northern and Central Districts of California and the Southern District of New York follow.
Where a case is filed depends on where the parties are located, on where earlier related cases are pending, and, for MDLs, on cases filed directly into the transferee court. The district count is therefore a picture of where litigation was concentrated, not of where the alleged conduct took place.

Full method and limits of the data
We selected nature-of-suit code 410 (Antitrust) and assigned cases to federal fiscal years by the actual filing date (FJC field FILEDATE, not the tape year): FY2025 runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, FY2024 from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. For the rankings we kept only origin codes 1 (original proceeding), 2 (removed from state court) and 13 (MDL originating in the district) and counted distinct case numbers, which leaves 481 new lawsuits in FY2025 and 531 in FY2024.
Each lawsuit is assigned to its first-listed defendant as recorded by the courts (the field is cut off at 30 characters). Spelling variants and entities sharing the same name stem are merged (for example GoodRx, Inc. and GoodRx Holdings, Inc.; CVS Caremark and CVS Health). Differently named affiliates are not merged. Every name variant behind each row is listed in the CSV.
For the check on parallel filings, we counted distinct first-listed plaintiffs among each company's new FY2025 lawsuits. Plaintiff names were compared after removing "et al." and punctuation; identical names count once even when only a surname is recorded, so plaintiffs sharing a surname in different districts count as one. A name cut off at the 30-character field limit counts as the same plaintiff as a longer name in the same group that begins with it (for example "Philadelphia Associatio" and "Philadelphia Association of Re"). This gives 28 distinct plaintiffs for GoodRx and 25 for the NCAA; plaintiff names are not published.
To check the data, we counted all antitrust records regardless of origin and compared them with Table C-2 of the judiciary's Judicial Business report: 585 against 591 published for FY2025 (a difference of 1.0%) and 801 against 800 for FY2024 (0.1%). The FJC notes that counts based on actual filing dates, as used here, may differ slightly from the published tables, which use a separate filing date for statistical reporting.
What this data cannot tell you
- Only the first-listed defendant is counted. A lawsuit against several companies counts once, for the company named first: the GoodRx cases, for example, also name pharmacy benefit managers such as CVS Caremark and Express Scripts, which are not credited here.
- A lawsuit is not a separate dispute. Antitrust claims are often filed as many parallel class actions over the same alleged conduct, and some cases are dismissed and refiled elsewhere. The counts measure filings, not distinct disputes, and say nothing about whether any claim succeeded.
- Names are grouped by hand from truncated text. Blue Cross Blue Shield entries without a state plan name may refer to the national association or to several plans and are shown as one row; 3 new FY2025 lawsuits name a defendant cut off too early to identify (for example "National Association of") and are not attributed.
- Counts are not adjusted for company size, market share or number of customers.
- The FJC file is updated as courts report and correct cases; later releases may change FY2025 counts slightly, mainly through late-reported cases and corrected origin codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which company faced the most antitrust lawsuits in 2025?
In federal fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025), GoodRx was the first-listed defendant in 30 new antitrust lawsuits in U.S. district courts, more than any other company. The NCAA followed with 29 and MultiPlan with 24.
What is the GoodRx antitrust lawsuit about?
According to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, independent pharmacies allege that GoodRx and four pharmacy benefit managers used GoodRx's price-aggregating algorithm to suppress what PBMs pay pharmacies for generic drugs. The cases were centralized in the District of Rhode Island as MDL No. 3148. They are allegations; the counts here do not show whether they succeed.
How many antitrust lawsuits were filed in federal court in 2025?
The federal judiciary reports 591 antitrust civil cases commenced in FY2025, a count that includes transferred and reopened cases. Excluding those, we count 481 new antitrust lawsuits, down from 531 in FY2024.
Are algorithmic pricing antitrust lawsuits increasing?
The court data do not record the legal theory of a case, so they cannot measure algorithmic pricing claims directly. The cases naming GoodRx first, the most of any defendant in FY2025 (30), involves allegations about a price-aggregating algorithm; RealPage was named first in 2 new lawsuits in FY2025 and 4 in FY2024.
Which court handles the most antitrust cases?
In FY2025 the Northern District of Illinois received 98 of the 481 new federal antitrust lawsuits (20.4%), more than any other district court.
Why does this ranking only count the first-listed defendant?
The public federal court database records only the first-listed plaintiff and defendant of each case. Co-defendants named later in a complaint are not in the data, so a company that is usually named second or third is undercounted.
