What Blood Pressure Medicine Was Recalled? Every Recall Since Fall 2025
Reference Guide
If you are asking what blood pressure medicine was recalled, the latest answer is chlorthalidone 25 mg from Inventia Healthcare: 13,567 bottles, recall started September 3, 2026, because the tablets failed dissolution testing. It is not the only one. Prazosin, metoprolol succinate, clonidine patches, enalapril, amlodipine/olmesartan, bisoprolol/HCTZ and one lot of Diovan were all recalled in the past year. A recall covers specific lots, not every bottle, and it is not a settlement — nobody pays you for it. Do not stop your medicine before you talk to your pharmacist.

Which Blood Pressure Drugs Were Recalled, and Why
These are the blood pressure recalls in FDA's Enforcement Report from September 2025 to October 15, 2026, grouped by drug.
Chlorthalidone 25 mg (Inventia Healthcare). Two recalls for failed dissolution: 11,460 bottles starting June 5, 2026, and 13,567 bottles starting September 3, 2026.
Prazosin capsules. Teva recalled 1 mg, 2 mg and 5 mg capsules starting October 7, 2025, and Amerisource Health Services followed on October 16, 2025. The reason was a nitrosamine impurity (N-nitroso prazosin impurity C) above FDA's limit. AP put the total at more than 580,000 bottles. Appco Pharma recalled more prazosin lots for the same impurity starting March 27, 2026.
Metoprolol succinate ER. Teva recalled 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg tablets, 112,327 bottles in total, starting January 29, 2026. Ascend recalled 17,304 bottles of the 25 mg strength starting April 27, 2026. Both were for failed dissolution.
Clonidine patches. Teva recalled 300,133 cartons of clonidine transdermal systems starting March 19, 2026, for use of an unapproved raw material.
Also recalled: bisoprolol/hydrochlorothiazide (Glenmark, November 21, 2025, traces of ezetimibe; Unichem, January 21, 2026, a nitrosamine impurity), enalapril 20 mg (675 bottles, April 23, 2026), amlodipine/olmesartan (Ascend, May 5 and July 8, 2026) and one lot of brand-name Diovan 160 mg (Novartis, August 4, 2026, failed dissolution).
Case details
Drug recalls are carried out by the manufacturer under FDA oversight, not ordered by a court. Every recall above was voluntary and firm-initiated. All are Class II except Glenmark's bisoprolol/HCTZ recall, which is Class III. Under FDA's definitions, Class II means use “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or serious harm is remote; Class III means harm is “not likely.”
The large court case tied to blood pressure recalls is older: In re: Valsartan, Losartan, and Irbesartan Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2875, No. 1:19-md-02875 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, opened February 14, 2019 after the 2018–2019 nitrosamine recalls. Its docket was still active on October 9, 2026. Our valsartan lawsuit page tracks it.
Status: Recalls Ongoing, No Payout Program
The prazosin recalls from three firms, Unichem's bisoprolol/HCTZ recall and Glenmark's earlier carvedilol recalls all involved nitrosamine impurities — the same class of chemical behind the 2018–2019 valsartan and losartan recalls. Most of the others were dissolution failures. Glenmark's carvedilol recall has its own page: Glenmark carvedilol recall.
How to Tell if Your Bottle Is Affected
A recall covers specific lot or batch numbers, not every bottle of the drug. Two examples from FDA's records: the September 2026 chlorthalidone recall is batch RISA24002 (NDC 64980-599-01, expiry 04/2027), and the Diovan recall is lot AV5913C (expiry 6/2027).
Start with the drug name and the manufacturer on your pharmacy label. If they match a recall above, ask the pharmacy that filled it whether your fill came from a recalled lot. They have the dispensing record; you may only have a vial.
Do not stop on your own. FDA's advice from the losartan and valsartan recalls still applies: continue taking your current medicine until your pharmacist provides a replacement or your doctor prescribes a different medication that treats the same condition.
Does a Recall Mean Money?
Money comes only through a lawsuit, and that is a separate question from the recall. The litigation over the 2018–2019 valsartan, losartan and irbesartan recalls is MDL No. 2875, still pending as of October 9, 2026 — see our valsartan page rather than a prediction here.
Blood Pressure Recall Timeline
July 13, 2018 — Valsartan Recalls Begin
Prinston starts the first valsartan recall over a carcinogen impurity in the active ingredient. FDA's records list 42 valsartan recalls started that month.
2019 — Losartan and Irbesartan Join
Torrent expands its losartan recall on April 18, 2019 by 36 lots of losartan and 68 lots of losartan/HCTZ. The federal cases become MDL 2875 in New Jersey.
2025 — Carvedilol Recalls
Glenmark recalls carvedilol lots in January, February and August 2025 for a nitrosamine impurity above FDA's limit. All Class II.
October 7, 2025 — Prazosin
Teva recalls prazosin capsules for N-nitroso prazosin impurity C; Amerisource follows on October 16, 2025. AP reports more than 580,000 bottles.
January–August 2026 — A Run of Recalls
Metoprolol succinate (January 29), clonidine patches (March 19), more prazosin (March 27), enalapril (April 23), amlodipine/olmesartan (May 5 and July 8), chlorthalidone (June 5) and Diovan (August 4).
September 3, 2026 — Chlorthalidone Again
Inventia Healthcare recalls 13,567 more bottles of chlorthalidone 25 mg for failed dissolution, posted by FDA on September 23, 2026. The newest blood pressure recall as of October 15, 2026.
Three Things to Watch For
Recall headlines about a drug millions take every day are an easy hook:
“Blood pressure recall compensation” sign-ups
There is no recall fund and no claim form for the 2025–2026 recalls. A page asking for your prescription list, insurance ID or Social Security number to “check your eligibility” is collecting data, not filing a claim.
Texts saying your medicine is recalled
A real recall can be checked: the drug, firm and lot appear in FDA's Enforcement Report. If a message names a recall you cannot find there, or asks you to pay or click to get a replacement, call your pharmacy on a number you already have.
Old losartan lists shared as new
Lot lists from the 2018–2019 valsartan and losartan recalls still circulate as if they were current. As of October 15, 2026 FDA's records show no losartan recall since September 2025. Check the date before you panic or throw pills away.
Blood Pressure Medicine Recall — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What blood pressure medicine was recalled most recently?
Chlorthalidone 25 mg tablets from Inventia Healthcare: 13,567 bottles, batch RISA24002, recall started September 3, 2026 for failed dissolution. Inventia had already recalled 11,460 bottles of the same drug starting June 5, 2026.
What Losartan products are on the recall list?
The losartan recalls date from 2018–2019: losartan potassium and losartan/hydrochlorothiazide lots from Torrent, Macleods and others, over the NMBA impurity. FDA keeps the list on its ARB recall page. We found no losartan recall in FDA's enforcement data from September 2025 to October 15, 2026.
Is there a recall of amlodipine besylate 5mg tablets?
Not in FDA's enforcement data from September 2025 to October 15, 2026. The amlodipine recalls in that period were combination tablets of amlodipine and olmesartan from Ascend: 5 mg/40 mg (lot 24123460) and 10 mg/20 mg (lot 25121311). Plain amlodipine besylate was not among them.
Should I stop taking my blood pressure medicine if it was recalled?
No, not on your own. FDA tells patients to continue taking their current medicine until their pharmacist provides a replacement or their doctor prescribes a different medication. Torrent's losartan notice says the risk may be higher if treatment is stopped immediately.
Why was prazosin recalled?
Testing found N-nitroso prazosin impurity C, a nitrosamine, above FDA's limit. Teva and Amerisource recalls started in October 2025, and Appco followed on March 27, 2026. AP notes prazosin is also prescribed for nightmares caused by PTSD, so not everyone taking it has high blood pressure.
What do Class II and Class III recalls mean?
Class II: the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, or serious harm is remote. Class III: the product is not likely to cause health problems. Almost every recent blood pressure recall is Class II; Glenmark's bisoprolol/HCTZ recall is Class III.
Can I get money from a blood pressure medicine recall?
Not from the recall itself — as of October 15, 2026 none of the 2025–2026 recalls has a settlement, fund or claim form. Lawsuits are separate. The valsartan, losartan and irbesartan cases are MDL No. 2875 in New Jersey, still pending.
Do blood pressure pills cause diarrhea?
That is a side-effect question, not a recall question, and this page cannot answer it for your drug — your pharmacist can. If you think a medicine harmed you, you can report it to FDA through MedWatch, which takes reports from patients and consumers.
