What We Checked
Ballad's patient portal is MyChart, Epic's portal. Ballad launched Epic in its legacy Mountain States practices on June 1, 2020 and finished the systemwide conversion on October 1, 2020. Patients use MyChart to view test results, request refills, manage appointments and message providers.
We also checked the known Ballad Health data breach incidents. None produced a class action we could find:
- 2022 email incident. On or about January 13, 2022, Ballad noticed unusual activity in an employee's email account; on February 17, 2022 it confirmed unauthorized access. The April 8, 2022 notice listed names, addresses, dates of birth, medical history, treatment information, medical record numbers, diagnosis codes and patient account numbers — no Social Security numbers.
- 2025 Renkim vendor incident. Renkim, Ballad's print-and-mail vendor, detected suspicious activity on March 3, 2025. Ballad posted a notice on July 7, 2025. In a few instances the files included dates of birth and Social Security numbers.
- 2018 insider access. Ballad fired an employee who viewed patient records without a valid reason. Ballad learned of it on May 28, 2018.
Case Details
The only Ballad Health cases with court records we found are not patient class actions:
Ballad Health v. UnitedHealth Group. Ballad sued UnitedHealth Group and UnitedHealthcare on October 21, 2025, No. 2:25-cv-00176, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville. Ballad alleges the insurer underpaid it by more than $65 million over five years on Medicare Advantage claims. On September 14, 2026, Judge Clifton Corker ruled that the contracts require arbitration and dismissed the case without prejudice. He did not decide the merits. Ballad says it will take its claims to arbitration. Separately, Ballad said it will not renew its Medicare Advantage contract with UnitedHealth when it expires on June 30, 2027.
Bearden v. Ballad Health. Local residents brought a Clayton Act antitrust suit over the Ballad merger. Judge Curtis Collier dismissed it for lack of standing, and the Sixth Circuit affirmed. No money went to patients.
Status: No Ballad Health Class Action or Settlement
The UnitedHealth case is a dispute between a hospital system and an insurer. Patients are not class members and nothing is payable to them. Since September 14, 2026 it has been off the court docket and in arbitration.
If a tracking or breach case against Ballad is filed later, it would start without a settlement. A court-appointed administrator would contact patients only if a settlement were reached.
What Ballad Patients Can Check
No one is in a Ballad Health class today, because there is no class case. What you can check:
Your mail. A 2022 notice from Ballad or a 2025 letter from Renkim says which of your details were involved. Keep it. Renkim mailed its own letters, so the sender name may not say Ballad.
Your own use. If you booked visits, searched for conditions on balladhealth.org or used Ballad's MyChart, note when you last did so. Our MyChart tracking claim check asks exactly that: website or MyChart, what you did there and when. It does not file a claim.
Other providers. If you were also treated at a health system with an open tracking settlement, you may have a claim there. See open settlements.
What Ballad Patients Can Get Today
For context only, not a prediction: hospital tracking settlements elsewhere have paid small per-person amounts, which you can compare in our MyChart settlement calculator. Breach settlements usually combine documented-loss reimbursement and a smaller flat payment — see the data breach settlement calculator. Any money from the UnitedHealth arbitration would go to Ballad, not to patients.

Three Things to Watch For
Searches for a Ballad Health settlement that does not exist attract people who want your data:
“Claim your Ballad Health settlement” sites
There is no Ballad Health settlement and no claims portal. A page asking for your MyChart login, Social Security number or a fee to “release your payment” is collecting data, not filing anything.
Messages that look like MyChart
Fake portal emails and texts copy MyChart branding. Reach MyChart by typing balladhealth.org yourself, never through a link about a lawsuit or settlement. Ballad will not ask for your password.
Calls citing the Renkim letter
Callers may mention the Renkim breach to sound official and offer “breach compensation” or identity protection for a fee. No Ballad settlement exists; hang up and use the contact details printed in your own letter.
Ballad Health Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a Ballad Health class action lawsuit?
Not that we could find as of October 8, 2026. We found no Ballad Health class action over MyChart or website tracking and none over a Ballad Health data breach. Lawsuits are public once filed, and we will update this page if one appears.
Is there a Ballad Health MyChart lawsuit?
No. Ballad uses Epic's MyChart portal, but we found no lawsuit alleging that Ballad's MyChart or balladhealth.org shared patient data with Meta, Google or other trackers. Our claim check asks how you used the website or MyChart and when, in case a case is filed.
Is there a Ballad Health settlement?
No. There is no Ballad Health settlement, no fund, no administrator, no claim form and no deadline for patients.
What is the Ballad Health lawsuit in the news?
Ballad sued UnitedHealth on October 21, 2025 (No. 2:25-cv-00176, E.D. Tenn.), alleging more than $65 million in Medicare Advantage underpayments. On September 14, 2026 Judge Clifton Corker sent it to arbitration and dismissed the court case without prejudice. It is a business dispute; patients get nothing from it.
Was there a Ballad Health data breach?
Yes, several incidents. An employee email account was accessed in January 2022. Ballad's mail vendor Renkim was breached in March 2025. An employee viewed records without permission in 2018. We found no class action or settlement tied to any of them.
I got a letter from Renkim. Is it real?
Renkim did mail letters to affected people, and Ballad told patients to review that letter, watch their accounts and consider a fraud alert or credit freeze. Check the letter against Ballad's own notice on balladhealth.org rather than calling numbers from an email.
Did the antitrust lawsuit against Ballad pay anything?
No. In Bearden v. Ballad Health, residents challenged the merger under the Clayton Act. Judge Curtis Collier dismissed the case for lack of standing, and the Sixth Circuit affirmed.
What can I do right now?
Keep any Ballad or Renkim notice. If your letter listed a Social Security number, freeze your credit at all three bureaus — it is free. Read your insurer's explanation-of-benefits statements for care you did not receive. Note when you last used balladhealth.org or MyChart.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
