What the Lawsuit Said Happened
Advocate Aurora Health, the Illinois and Wisconsin system behind Advocate Health Care hospitals such as Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, used tracking tools such as the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics on its websites, its LiveWell app and its MyChart patient portal.
In October 2022 the system said those pixels had, in certain instances, sent patient information to outside analytics vendors. It notified the HHS Office for Civil Rights on October 14, 2022 and sent notices to about 3 million people. Information that may have been shared included dates and times of scheduled appointments and communications through MyChart. Advocate Aurora said no Social Security numbers or financial account data were involved, and it removed the tools.
The lawsuit alleged that this disclosed patients’ personal and health information to third parties such as Meta/Facebook and Google without consent. Advocate Aurora denied wrongdoing and settled.
Case Details
The case is In re Advocate Aurora Health Pixel Litigation, No. 2:22-cv-01253 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, before Judge J.P. Stadtmueller. It consolidated five individual actions, led by John v. Advocate Aurora Health, filed October 24, 2022. The final approval order is Document 54, dated July 10, 2024. Kroll Settlement Administration was the court-approved administrator, and the official site is advocateaurorasettlement.com.
Status: Advocate Aurora Settlement Approved, Claims Closed
You cannot file a late claim, and the case cannot be reopened for new claimants. If you did nothing, you are bound by the release for the October 24, 2017 to October 22, 2022 period.
We could not confirm when payments went out or the final amount per person. Neither the official site nor any news report we found states it, as of October 2026. If you filed and think you were never paid, contact Kroll through the official site.
Who Was in the Class, and Who Was Not
The class was people in the United States whose information may have been disclosed through a tracking pixel on Advocate Aurora’s websites, LiveWell app or MyChart portal between October 24, 2017 and October 22, 2022. Kroll mailed 2,540,567 postcard notices on October 20, 2023.
If you used the site or MyChart after October 22, 2022, that use was not covered by this settlement. Advocate Aurora said it had removed the pixels by then. As of October 2026, we found no newer lawsuit against Advocate Health or Advocate Aurora over website or MyChart tracking. Our form on this page asks whether you used the website or MyChart, what you did there and when. That helps sort out whether your use falls inside the old class window or after it.
Advocate Aurora has been part of Advocate Health since December 2, 2022, together with Atrium Health. The Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care names are still used locally, so a letter may carry any of these names.
What the Advocate Aurora Settlement Paid
The claim rate was high. Class members filed 570,963 claims, and Kroll validated 565,543 of them, over 22% of the class. Administration alone cost about $2.75 million. Even the whole $12.225 million divided by 565,543 claims would be about $21.62 each. The real share after deductions was therefore below the $50 cap. The court order does not state the final per-person figure. To compare with other hospital pixel cases, use our MyChart settlement calculator.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 80,165 other statutory actions casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 11.8% of them filed as class actions:
- 26% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 22.4% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 26% and 48.4%.
- 7.4% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 155 reached a trial (0.6%), after a median of 22 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 5 months.
- Only 1,717 of them (2.1%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $195,000.

Three Things to Watch For
A closed settlement with a well-known hospital name is easy to reuse for scams:
“Advocate Aurora settlement reopened” pages
The claim deadline passed on January 18, 2024, and the case was dismissed on July 10, 2024. A page offering to file you into it now is not connected to the court. That is especially true if it asks for a Social Security number, which the pixel case never involved.
“Unclaimed payment” texts asking for a fee
Claimants could pick Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, ACH or a check, so scammers copy those words. Kroll does not charge a fee to release a settlement payment. Check any message against the official site, not a link in the text.
The “$2,500 MyChart settlement”
No Advocate Aurora payment came close to that. Each claim was capped at $50. Larger figures in ads usually describe one named plaintiff’s award, not class checks. Here is where the rumor comes from.

I filed a claim but don’t remember getting paid. What can I do?
Contact Kroll Settlement Administration through advocateaurorasettlement.com, the only authorized site. Have your Class Member ID from the postcard notice ready. Electronic payments may have gone to the Venmo, Zelle or PayPal account you named.
Is there a new Advocate Health data breach lawsuit?
As of October 8, 2026, we found no new class action against Advocate Health or Advocate Aurora over a data breach or tracking. Separately, in 2016 Advocate Health Care agreed to pay $5.55 million to the HHS Office for Civil Rights over incidents including 2013 computer thefts. That money went to the government, not to patients.
I used MyChart after October 2022. Am I covered?
Not by this settlement. Its class period ended October 22, 2022, after Advocate Aurora removed the pixels. If you think tracking happened later, note what you did on the site or in MyChart and when. Our form on this page asks exactly that.
Was Epic, the company that makes MyChart, sued?
No. The defendant was Advocate Aurora Health, which put the tracking code on its own pages. In these cases the hospital is the defendant, not the software maker. More on why.
Are other hospitals’ MyChart settlements still open?
Some are. Our MyChart claim form guide lists which hospital tracking settlements still take claims and their deadlines. For a breach letter from another company, try the data breach settlement calculator.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
