Which TransUnion Settlement Check This Is
People searching “norman vs transunion settlement check status” mean Norman v. Trans Union, LLC, the settlement for roughly 485,000 people who disputed a hard inquiry and got Trans Union’s “502 Letter” back between December 5, 2016 and January 31, 2025. If you got a notice postcard or email in 2025, that is you.
It is not the TransUnion data breach, and it is not the tenant-screening case. That one was a government action: on October 18, 2023 a court entered an FTC/CFPB order requiring TransUnion Rental Screening Solutions to pay $11 million in consumer redress and a $4 million penalty. A “transunion rental screening settlement check” would come from that program, not from Norman.
Case Details
Norman v. Trans Union, LLC, No. 2:18-cv-05225-GAM, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Judge Gerald Austin McHugh. The final approval order is Document 183, dated July 22, 2025. The settlement administrator is American Legal Claims Services, LLC.
Status: Approved, No Confirmed Mailing Date
What has to happen before money moves. Under the settlement agreement, because objections were filed, the “Effective Date” is seven calendar days after the time to appeal to the Third Circuit runs out with no appeal. The court received ten objections and overruled all of them. Payments are due within 14 calendar days of the Effective Date. The official FAQ says payments go out only “after any appeals are resolved.” We could not confirm whether anyone appealed: the court docket shows a filing as late as December 10, 2025, and we could not read it.
One warning sign. When we checked on October 12, 2026, the settlement website transuniondisputeclassaction.com did not load at all. If it comes back, it is the place to look; until then, use the administrator’s phone number below.
Who Gets a Check Automatically
Everyone in the class who did not opt out gets the automatic payment. No claim form was needed. It is mailed to the address Trans Union has on file for you.
A higher payment went only to people who filed a claim attesting to specific harm by June 24, 2025. That window is closed; you cannot file now.
How to do a transunion settlement claim status check: call American Legal Claims Services at 800-657-1189, email info@transuniondisputeclassaction.com, or write to Norman v Trans Union, LLC, c/o Settlement Administrator, PO Box 23489, Jacksonville, FL 32241. Have the Notice ID from your postcard or email ready. Do not call TransUnion or the court — the notice told class members not to.
How Much the TransUnion Settlement Check Is
Automatic payment: the agreement fixes it at $20 per class member; the official notice estimated $20–$30.
Claimants: $4,583,333 of the fund is reserved for people who filed a valid claim, split equally among them on top of the $20. The notice estimated that higher payment at up to $160; the real figure depends on how many valid claims came in, and it has not been published.
Where the rest of the $23 million goes: the court awarded $7,666,667 in attorneys’ fees, $221,150 in expenses and a $50,000 service award, plus administration costs. None of the fund goes back to Trans Union.
How it is paid: a paper check by first-class mail, unless you chose one of the administrator’s electronic payment options in time.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 112,484 federal civil cases of this typeclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 10.6% of them filed as class actions:
- 46.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 27.2% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 46.9% and 74.1%.
- 3.8% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 760 reached a trial (0.1%), after a median of 21.2 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 4.8 months.
- Only 1,167 of them (1%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $10,000.

Three Things to Watch For
A small automatic check, an offline official website and nearly half a million people waiting is a gap scammers fill:
Look-alike “update your address” sites
If the official site is hard to reach, a page that copies its look and asks for your Social Security number or bank login is not the administrator. Real correspondence comes from American Legal Claims Services, references Norman v. Trans Union and uses your Notice ID.
A fee to “release” your TransUnion check
Class members pay nothing. Fees and costs are taken from the fund by court order before any check is cut. Anyone asking you to pay, buy a gift card or send a deposit to get your money is running a scam.
“TransUnion data breach settlement” claim links
Norman is about dispute letters, not a data breach, and its claim deadline passed June 24, 2025. A text or email blending the two to get you to “file now” is fishing for your information.
TransUnion Settlement Check — Questions People Actually Ask
What is the transunion settlement payout date?
As of October 12, 2026, none has been announced. Final approval came on July 22, 2025. Under the agreement, payments are due within 14 days of the Effective Date, which depends on whether anyone appealed — and we could not confirm that.
What is the norman vs transunion settlement check status?
Approved and waiting on payment, as far as we can document. The official site’s last update (captured June 13, 2026) was the July 22, 2025 approval. The site did not load on October 12, 2026; the administrator’s line is 800-657-1189.
How much is the transunion settlement check?
The automatic payment is $20 under the agreement, estimated at $20–$30 in the notice. People who filed a valid claim by June 24, 2025 share an extra $4,583,333, estimated at up to $160. Actual paid amounts have not been published.
Do I have to file anything to get paid?
No. Class members who did not opt out are paid automatically by mail to the address Trans Union has. The claim deadline for the higher payment was June 24, 2025 and has passed.
How do I do a transunion settlement claim status check?
Call American Legal Claims Services at 800-657-1189 or email info@transuniondisputeclassaction.com with the Notice ID from your notice. Mail goes to PO Box 23489, Jacksonville, FL 32241.
What if my check expires or gets lost?
Checks are void if not cashed within 60 days of mailing. The agreement does not spell out reissues, so contact the administrator before the 60 days run out. Money from uncashed checks goes into a second round (if it covers at least $10 per person who cashed) or to the two cy pres recipients.
Is this the transunion rental screening settlement check?
No. The rental screening matter is a separate FTC/CFPB order entered October 18, 2023, requiring $11 million in consumer redress. It is a separate order and is not handled by the Norman administrator. We have not confirmed how or whether that redress has been paid.
How long does TransUnion have to resolve a dispute?
That is a credit-reporting question, not a settlement one, and this page cannot answer it for your file. Disputes go to TransUnion directly; if one is mishandled, you can complain to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
