AT&T Data Breach Settlement: $177M Fund — Where Payments Stand

Two massive AT&T breaches — the 2019-era dataset leaked in March 2024 (~73 million people, including Social Security numbers) and the Snowflake call-records breach announced in July 2024 (~110 million customers) — were resolved in a single $177 million settlement. About 4.38 million claims were filed before the December 18, 2025 deadline. As of August 2026, everyone is waiting on one thing: the judge's final approval ruling. No payout date exists yet.

What Happened: Two Breaches, One Settlement

The settlement covers two separate incidents. AT&T-1: in March 2024, a dataset covering roughly 73 million current and former customers — believed to date largely from 2019 — surfaced on the dark web. It included names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, AT&T account passcodes and, for many people, Social Security numbers. AT&T-2: between April 14–25, 2024, an attacker accessed AT&T's third-party Snowflake cloud workspace and downloaded call and text metadata (which numbers contacted which, when, and for how long — not the content of calls) for roughly 110 million customers, covering May–October 2022. AT&T denies wrongdoing but agreed to pay $177 million, split into a $149 million fund (AT&T-1) and a $28 million fund (AT&T-2).

Case Details

In re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 3:24-md-03114-E, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division (Hon. Ada E. Brown). Settlement administrator: Kroll Settlement Administration LLC — official website telecomdatasettlement.com, phone (833) 890-4930, mail: AT&T Data Incident Settlement, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324.

Current Status: Waiting on the Judge

The final approval hearing took place on January 15, 2026 before Judge Ada Brown — but no ruling has been issued yet. The official settlement site's most recent status update (April 23, 2026) says the court "continues to consider whether it will approve the Settlement." That is still the situation in August 2026: claims review by Kroll continues in the background, but no money can go out until the judge signs the final approval order and any appeals are resolved. No payout date has been announced.

Who Is in the Class — and Can You Still File?

The class covers current and former AT&T customers affected by either incident — roughly 73 million people for AT&T-1 and 110 million for AT&T-2 (with overlap). The claim deadline was December 18, 2025, and it has passed — about 4.38 million claims were submitted, and no new claims are being accepted. If you filed, you can check your claim status anytime at telecomdatasettlement.com with your Claim ID. If you didn't file, you won't share in this fund, but keep an eye on your credit: SSN exposure from this breach has a long tail, and free credit freezes remain the strongest protection.

How Much Will the Checks Be?

Honest answer: nobody knows the per-person amount yet. Documented-loss claims can recover up to $5,000 (AT&T-1) plus up to $2,500 (AT&T-2) — a combined maximum of $7,500 — with proof of losses fairly traceable to the breaches. Everyone else gets a pro-rata cash payment: AT&T-1 claimants whose Social Security number was exposed are paid at 5× the base rate of other AT&T-1 claimants, and AT&T-2-only claimants share the separate $28M fund. The actual dollar figures depend on how many of the ~4.38 million claims are validated — Kroll only calculates them after final approval. Beware of any site or message promising you a specific amount today.

Timeline: From Breach to (Pending) Payout

  1. 1

    March 30, 2024 — AT&T-1 announced

AT&T confirms a dataset with ~73 million current and former customers' data — including Social Security numbers — surfaced on the dark web, largely from 2019-era records.

  2. 2

    July 12, 2024 — Snowflake breach announced

AT&T discloses that call and text metadata for ~110 million customers (May–Oct 2022) was illegally downloaded from its Snowflake cloud workspace in April 2024.

  3. 3

    March 2025 — $177M settlement reached

After federal lawsuits are consolidated into MDL 3:24-md-03114 before Judge Ada Brown in Dallas, the parties agree to a $177 million settlement: $149M for AT&T-1, $28M for AT&T-2.

  4. 4

    June 20, 2025 — Preliminary approval

Judge Brown grants preliminary approval. Kroll launches telecomdatasettlement.com and begins notifying class members by email and mail.

  5. 5

    December 18, 2025 — Claims deadline closes

Roughly 4.38 million claims are filed by the deadline. The opt-out and objection window had already closed on November 17, 2025.

  6. 6

January 15, 2026 — Final approval hearing (no ruling yet)

The hearing is held, but as of August 2026 Judge Brown has not issued a decision. Payments start only after final approval plus any appeal period — no date announced.

Scam Alert: Fake AT&T Settlement Messages

A settlement this size (177 million dollars, ~180 million potentially affected people) is a magnet for fraud. Three patterns to watch:

"Pay a fee to release your settlement check"

The real settlement never charges a fee — not to file, not to "process", not to "release" a payment. Anyone asking for money, gift cards, or your bank login to send your AT&T payment is a scammer. Report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Lookalike emails that aren't from Kroll

Legitimate settlement emails came from attsettlement@e.emailksa.com. Scammers use lookalike addresses and cloned pages to harvest SSNs and bank details. Never click links in settlement emails — type telecomdatasettlement.com into your browser yourself and use your Claim ID there.

Fake settlement websites

Security researchers and news outlets have documented fake class-action settlement sites targeting AT&T (and Facebook) claimants. The only legitimate contacts are telecomdatasettlement.com and Kroll's hotline (833) 890-4930.

AT&T Settlement FAQ

When will AT&T settlement payments go out?

There is no payout date yet. Three things must happen first: Judge Brown issues the final approval order (pending since the January 15, 2026 hearing), any appeals are resolved, and Kroll finishes validating ~4.38 million claims. Realistically, that puts payments in late 2026 at the earliest — later if the ruling is appealed.

Can I still file an AT&T settlement claim?

No. The claim deadline was December 18, 2025, and no new claims are accepted. If you missed it, you won't receive a payment from this fund.

How much will each person get?

Documented losses: up to $5,000 (AT&T-1) plus up to $2,500 (AT&T-2), max $7,500 combined. Cash payments without documentation are pro-rata and not yet calculated — AT&T-1 claimants with exposed SSNs get 5× the base rate. Any site quoting you an exact amount today is guessing or lying.

Is telecomdatasettlement.com legit?

Yes. It is the official settlement website, operated by court-appointed administrator Kroll Settlement Administration LLC. You can verify your claim status there or call (833) 890-4930.

What data was actually exposed?

AT&T-1 (announced March 2024): names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, account passcodes and Social Security numbers of ~73 million people. AT&T-2 (announced July 2024): call and text records — numbers, timestamps, durations — of ~110 million customers, but not the content of any call or message.

Why is final approval taking so long?

Unusual but not unprecedented. The hearing was January 15, 2026; the court's own April 2026 update said it "continues to consider" approval. Large settlements with millions of claims sometimes sit months under advisement — and until the order issues, the appeal clock can't even start.

I got an email about my claim status — is it real?

Check the sender: legitimate emails come from attsettlement@e.emailksa.com. Even then, don't click — go directly to telecomdatasettlement.com and log in with your Claim ID. Kroll will never ask for payment or your full bank credentials by email.
