As of October 8, 2026 there is no open PNC settlement for bank customers — no fund, no claim form and no deadline. What sent people searching is an August 7, 2026 PNC notice: a form with one customer's Social Security number was mailed to a different customer. A law firm is investigating; we found no lawsuit filed over it. Several other PNC cases are pending, and the overdraft-fee settlements people remember closed more than a decade ago.

The PNC Cases, One by One
August 2026 mailing error (PNC data breach notice). According to the notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, as reported by a law firm, PNC determined that a form containing a customer's name, Social Security number and driver's license number was inadvertently mailed to a different customer. Letters went out on August 7, 2026. PNC describes it as a mailing error, not a cyberattack, and offers a one-year Experian IdentityWorks membership. No filed complaint has surfaced.
HELOC offsets — Lyons v. PNC Bank. Filed in August 2020, the class action alleges PNC violated the Truth in Lending Act by taking money from deposit accounts to pay home equity line of credit balances. The Fourth Circuit ruled that the offset ban applies to HELOCs.
Cash sweep. PNC Investments customers allege the firm paid too little interest on uninvested brokerage cash; the plaintiffs' firm says rates were as low as 0.05%.
Website tracking — Birdsall. The suit alleges PNC let a LinkedIn tracking tool intercept website visits, in violation of the Pennsylvania Wiretap Act.
PNC disputes these claims, and none has been proven.
Case Details
Lyons v. PNC Bank is in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland before Judge Stephanie Gallagher. The cash sweep case is in the Western District of Pennsylvania, where Magistrate Judge Kezia O.L. Taylor recommended that the breach-of-contract and fiduciary-duty claims proceed. Birdsall v. The PNC Financial Services Group Inc., Case No. GD-25-009654, is in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. The 2025 data breach suit, Blunt v. The PNC Financial Services Group Inc., No. 2:25-cv-01469 (W.D. Pa.), was voluntarily dismissed on Sept. 28, 2025. The old overdraft claims ran through In re Checking Account Overdraft Litigation, MDL No. 2036, No. 1:09-MD-02036-JLK (S.D. Fla.), before Judge James Lawrence King.
Status: Several Pending Cases, No Open Settlement
Lyons (HELOC): On Feb. 2, 2026 Judge Gallagher found that Lyons had standing, but granted PNC summary judgment on his individual damages claims and held class certification in abeyance after narrowing the proposed class.
Over and done: the 2025 “740,000 records” suit was dropped within a week after PNC found no breach of its systems. On June 8, 2026 the Sixth Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Voutsiotis v. PNC Bank, an investor suit claiming PNC helped an adviser's fraud. And anyone searching for a “PNC class action lawsuit overdraft fees” payout is looking at a settlement that got final approval in August 2013.

Are You Affected?
The August 2026 letter: if PNC mailed you a notice dated August 2026, your form was the one sent to the wrong person. Keep the letter. It is your proof if a lawsuit is ever filed.
Lyons: the narrowed class covers borrowers in five jurisdictions who signed the National City Equity Reserve Agreement, received a credit card tied to the HELOC, and had a PNC offset within one year before the complaint. No class has been certified.
Cash sweep: PNC Investments brokerage customers whose uninvested cash sat in the sweep program. Birdsall: a proposed class of PNC website visitors, as pleaded in the October 2025 complaint.
You do not sign up for any of these. If a class is certified or a settlement is reached, a court-appointed administrator sends notice.
Is There Any Money?
The past PNC settlement figures are real but closed. PNC agreed in June 2012 to pay $90 million to settle the overdraft MDL, which alleged that debit transactions were posted from highest to lowest amount to increase overdraft fees. A separate $12 million fund resolved Trombley v. National City Bank (D.D.C., No. 10-00232) for former National City customers, paying up to $36 per eligible overdraft charge. A $11,850,000 wage settlement covered PNC mortgage loan officers in California employed from 2014 to 2019 — an employee case, not a customer one. None of these accepts claims as of October 2026.
For the August 2026 letter, the concrete benefit is the Experian IdentityWorks membership. The enrollment deadline printed in the letter, as reported, is December 16, 2026.

Three Things to Watch For
A real PNC letter plus no claim form is the gap scammers use:
“Claim your PNC settlement” sites
No PNC consumer settlement is open as of October 2026. A page asking for your Social Security number or PNC login to “secure your payment” is collecting data, not filing a claim.
Calls or texts “from PNC fraud” about the letter
The August 2026 notice warns that your SSN reached a stranger, which makes a fake fraud call sound plausible. Hang up and call the number on the back of your card. PNC will not ask for your online banking password or a one-time code.
Fake credit-monitoring enrollment links
Enroll in Experian IdentityWorks only through the address and activation code printed in your own letter. A link in an email or text that asks you to pay for the “free” monitoring is not from PNC.
PNC Lawsuits — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a PNC class action lawsuit I can join right now?
No. As of October 8, 2026 no PNC consumer settlement is accepting claims. Pending cases such as Lyons (HELOC offsets) and the cash sweep suit are not settled, and you do not join a class action by signing up anywhere.
I got a PNC data breach letter in August 2026. What happened?
Per the notice as reported, a form containing your name, Social Security number and driver's license number was mailed to a different PNC customer by mistake. PNC calls it a mailing error, not a hack. It placed six-month alerts on affected accounts and offers one year of Experian IdentityWorks.
Is there a PNC data breach lawsuit over the August 2026 letter?
Not that we could find. A law firm announced an investigation, which is a recruitment step, not a lawsuit. There is no settlement, no claim form and no deadline tied to this incident.
What happened to the 740,000-record PNC data breach claim?
A customer sued on Sept. 23, 2025 (Blunt, No. 2:25-cv-01469, W.D. Pa.), citing a dark web post. The case was voluntarily dismissed on Sept. 28, 2025 after PNC's investigation found no evidence of a breach of its systems.
Can I still get money from the PNC overdraft fee settlement?
No. The $90 million overdraft settlement in MDL No. 2036 received final approval in August 2013, and the $12 million National City overdraft fund was approved in the D.C. federal court years ago. Both are closed. There is no current PNC overdraft fee class action we could verify.
What is the PNC HELOC lawsuit about?
Lyons v. PNC Bank alleges PNC broke the Truth in Lending Act by pulling money from deposit accounts to cover HELOC payments. On Feb. 2, 2026 the Maryland court let the case continue, but it narrowed the proposed class and has not certified it.
Is PNC part of the Zelle lawsuit?
PNC is one of seven banks that own Early Warning Services, the company behind Zelle, but the New York Attorney General sued Early Warning, not PNC. That case is covered on our Zelle lawsuit page.
What should I do if my information was in the August 2026 notice?
Enroll in the free monitoring using the code in your letter before the December 16, 2026 deadline, as reported. Freeze your credit at all three bureaus, which is free and reversible. Keep the letter and envelope.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
