Stellantis Recall Check: The 955,000-Vehicle Camera Recall Has a Sequel — NHTSA Now Lists 844,027 U.S. Vehicles in One Campaign and 239,130 Ram 1500s in Another, With Letters Mailed September 2 and September 24

Two Stellantis rearview-camera recalls are now in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s database. 26V531000 (report received August 13, 2026; Chrysler recall 78D) lists 844,027 2026 and 2027 Jeep, Ram, Chrysler and Dodge vehicles whose radio software can leave the camera screen blank in reverse; owner letters went out beginning September 2, 2026. 26V560000 (September 1, 2026; recall 83D) adds 239,130 2025–2026 Ram 1500 pickups for the same symptom; letters were mailed September 24, 2026. Together that is 1,083,157 U.S. vehicle entries (our arithmetic). Both fixes are a free radio software update, over the air or at a dealer. A recall is a repair, not a payment, and as of October 8, 2026 we found no lawsuit tied to either campaign.

The short answer: two camera recalls, both free software fixes
If you searched for a Stellantis recall check after hearing about the “955,000-vehicle” camera recall, there is now a second one to check as well. As of October 8, 2026, NHTSA’s recall data shows:
- 26V531000 — 844,027 vehicles. NHTSA’s summary: “Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2026 Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Compass, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, Ram Promaster, Ram Promaster EV, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, Chrysler Voyager, and 2026-2027 Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Charger vehicles. The rearview camera image may fail to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse.” The vehicles therefore fail Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, “Rear Visibility.”
- 26V560000 — 239,130 Ram 1500 pickups, model years 2025 and 2026: “A radio software error may cause the rearview camera image not to display.” Fox 2 Detroit, citing NHTSA, reported on September 24 that the affected trucks were built between October 6, 2023 and February 23, 2026, and that similar trucks built after that window or “with a different radio and/or camera” are not included.
The remedy is the same for both. For 26V531000: “Radio software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge.” For 26V560000: “The radio software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge.” NHTSA states the risk plainly: a camera image that does not display “reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.” Stellantis said in August it was “unaware of any accidents or injuries connected to the software issue.”
How to run a Stellantis recall check on your VIN
Both campaigns are already searchable by Vehicle Identification Number. NHTSA’s records say the VINs for 26V531000 became searchable on NHTSA.gov on August 20, 2026, and those for 26V560000 on September 9, 2026. That makes the check straightforward:
- Enter your 17-character VIN at NHTSA.gov (it is on the driver-side dashboard behind the windshield, on the door jamb and on your registration). A match will show the NHTSA number 26V531000 or 26V560000.
- Or use Stellantis’ own lookup at recalls.mopar.com, which Stellantis pointed owners to when it announced the recall on August 17.
- Or call Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and quote the company’s recall number: 78D for the 955,000-vehicle campaign, 83D for the Ram 1500 campaign.
Owner letters for 26V531000 “were mailed beginning September 2, 2026”; letters for 26V560000 “were mailed September 24, 2026.” When the over-the-air update is ready for your vehicle, Stellantis says “a notification should appear on the vehicle’s media screen” and you follow the on-screen steps. If you would rather not wait, NHTSA lists a dealer update as an equal remedy for both campaigns. Until the software is updated, Stellantis’ advice is to check that the camera image appears before backing up and, if it does not, to use the mirrors.
One data quirk worth knowing if you use NHTSA’s raw data feed: the machine-readable flag overTheAirUpdate is set to false for 26V531000 even though the remedy text describes an OTA update. Go by the remedy text and your letter.
Other Stellantis recalls with letters going out this fall
A VIN check shows every open recall on a vehicle, not just the camera one. Searching NHTSA’s data on October 8, 2026 for 2026 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger and Jeep Compass turned up these other campaigns with owner letters dated September or later:
- 26V559000 (recall 54D) — 201,975 Jeep vehicles, including 2024–2026 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, Grand Wagoneer models and the 2026 Cherokee: a software error can keep the tire pressure monitoring system from warning of low pressure. Dealers update the radio frequency hub software; letters were mailed beginning September 17, 2026.
- 26V561000 (recall 69D) — 2,017 2025–2026 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager and 2026 Voyager plug-in hybrids: a cracked brake pedal position sensor capacitor can cause a loss of electronic stability control. Letters were mailed September 17, 2026.
- 26V529000 (recall 77D) — 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L: “the windshield wipers may fail” because of body control module software. Letters were mailed September 3, 2026.
- 26V456000 (recall 05D) — 2026 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler: steel wheel walls “may be too thin, allowing them to crack or detach.” Letters were expected September 4, 2026.
- 26V421000 (recall 62D) — 2026 Ram 1500: headlight wiring can make parking and daytime running lights flicker or fail. Letters were mailed September 17, 2026.
- 26V622000 (recall 94D) — 5 2026 Ram 1500 trucks whose side air bag connector may not be secured. Letters are expected October 27, 2026; the VINs became searchable on October 6, 2026.
The 2026 Dodge Charger and 2026 Jeep Compass returned only the camera recall. Every remedy above is free of charge.
Is the letter real — and is there any money?
A genuine recall letter names the NHTSA campaign or the Chrysler recall number (78D or 83D for the camera fixes) and tells you the repair is free. You can confirm any letter independently: put your VIN into NHTSA.gov or recalls.mopar.com, or call 1-800-853-1403 yourself rather than a number printed on a message you are unsure about. A camera recall never requires a payment, a card number or a “recall processing fee,” and the software comes either through your vehicle’s own screen or from a dealer.
On money: neither NHTSA record mentions reimbursement or compensation, and a recall by itself does not create a settlement or a claim form. When Top Class Actions covered the recall on August 25, 2026 it wrote that “the company is not currently facing legal action over the recall.” Our own search of federal dockets on October 8, 2026 found no case over either camera campaign. If a lawsuit is filed, it would be a separate process with its own notice. Pages or messages promising “Stellantis recall payments” for these camera campaigns have nothing official behind them as of October 8, 2026.
Why you see 955,085, 848,511, 844,027 and 239,130
The numbers in the coverage come from different places. 955,085 is Stellantis’ worldwide total for the August 17 announcement, reproduced by Mopar Insiders: “Of the 955,085 vehicles involved worldwide, 848,511 are located in the United States. Another 82,869 are in Canada, while 7,969 are in Mexico. The remaining 15,736 vehicles are located outside North America.” That puts 106,574 outside the U.S. (our arithmetic). NHTSA’s filing for the U.S. lists 844,027 — 4,484 fewer than Stellantis’ U.S. figure; neither source explains the gap. Mopar Insiders’ model list also includes the 2026–2027 Chrysler Grand Caravan, the Canadian name for the Voyager, which is why it is not in NHTSA’s list.
The Ram 1500 campaign is 239,130 in NHTSA’s data; news reports quoting NHTSA give 239,131. Adding the two U.S. camera campaigns gives 1,083,157 vehicle entries, not necessarily that many different trucks and SUVs: the 2026 Ram 1500 appears in both campaigns, and the records do not say whether any single truck is in both.
