5.4 Million My Little Steamers Were Recalled in May 2021 — and the Claim Form Is Still Online in September 2026. A 2018–2020 Receipt Gets a Full Refund; With No Receipt, a Photo of a Cut Cord Gets an $8 HSN Voucher.

The short version. If you still own a Joy- or JM-branded My Little Steamer or My Little Steamer Go Mini, the official site SteamerRecallSettlement.com was still accepting claims when we checked it on September 27, 2026: the online form, a printable claim form and the mailing address are all live. No posted document says whether a claim filed this long after the 120-day claim window is still paid; see the deadline section below. The settlement covers anyone who bought one from January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2020 — on HSN.com, on the HSN television channel, or at retailers such as Amazon, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart and Lowe’s, according to the CPSC recall notice 21-138. People searching for the “my little steamer settlement” or the “my little steamer recall settlement” are looking at the same claim: HSN agreed to one set of benefits with the CPSC and with the class, and the site handles both. You file once per person and list every unit on that one form; the administrator says duplicate claims “will not be processed,” and nobody can be paid twice for the same steamer.

Three things decide what you get. First, proof of ownership and destruction — required for every claim, cash or voucher. The site’s instructions are to “Deface the unit(s) with a permanent and prominent marking, e.g. writing ‘RECALLED’ or ‘DEFECTIVE’ in black marker on the unit; Cut the electrical cord to the unit making it inoperable; and Take a clear, readable photo of the defaced unit(s).” The online form asks you to confirm that the photo is ready before it lets you start, and the site warns that you cannot save a half-finished claim. Upload files may be up to 20 MB each. Second, proof of purchase — either the Unique ID printed on the notice HSN’s customers received by mail or email in 2021, or a receipt. Third, when you bought it — the date decides between a full refund, a fixed $8 or $12, and an $8 voucher. If you leave the purchase date blank, the claim form says “it will be assumed the purchase occurred before January 1, 2015” — which means a voucher.

You can file online or print the three-page claim form and mail it, with the photo and any receipt, to My Little Steamer Claims Administrator, P.O. Box 3698, Portland, OR 97208-3698. The claim form asks for your name, address, phone number, email, the Unique ID if you have one, and for each purchase the model, date, amount paid and quantity — no Social Security number and no bank details. Questions go to 1-855-654-0942 (TTY 1-855-535-1814), 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, Monday to Friday. The settlement site asks people not to call the court or HSN about the claims process. Whatever you decide about a claim, the CPSC’s instruction is the same for everyone: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled clothing steamers.”

The “my little steamer class action lawsuit” began on December 14, 2018, when Melissa Fiore of Brooklyn and two California buyers, Cynthia Vasquez and Barbara Seldin, sued Ingenious Designs, LLC in federal court in Brooklyn. Ingenious Designs’ president, the complaint said, was Joy Mangano, who promoted its products on HSN; the CPSC describes it as the importer and “a wholly-owned subsidiary of HSN since 1999.” The complaint alleged that the steamers, “due to manufacturing and/or design defects fail, causing boiling water to leak from seals and/or spew on product users and melt the products’ plastic housing when used properly,” and it set that against the product’s marketing line: “No Spitting. No Staining. No Burning. No Worries.” Ms. Vasquez, according to the complaint, suffered burns to her left shin and foot when she used her new steamer on September 30, 2018. The claims were consumer-protection statutes of New York and California, breach of warranty and unjust enrichment. The defendants denied liability and the court never decided who was right.

The case then waited on a government investigation. Ingenious Designs moved to dismiss in April 2019; in April 2020 the court stayed the case on consent while the parties reported on “the status of the governments investigation.” The settlement agreement explains the link: the deal the parties reached with mediator Rodney Max was “contingent upon Defendants reaching an agreement with the United States Consumer Protection Safety Commission”, and the two sides then incorporated the economic and non-economic terms of HSN’s Corrective Action Plan with the CPSC (CPSC File No. RP190373) into the class settlement. An amended complaint added HSN, Inc. as a defendant and sought a nationwide class. The agreement was signed in April and May 2021 and filed on May 4, 2021; Magistrate Judge Tiscione granted preliminary approval on May 6, 2021, and after the parties consented to his jurisdiction he granted final approval and closed the case on September 10, 2021. The final order notes that Ingenious Designs “is no longer operating and its employees and management have been terminated.”

The recall went public on May 26, 2021 as CPSC recall number 21-138. The CPSC counted about 5.4 million steamers in the U.S., plus 14,300 distributed in Canada, sold from January 2002 through December 2020 for $10 to $30 individually and $20 to $50 in combination sets. HSN had received 227 reports of hot water spraying or leaking, including 106 reports of burn injuries, “eight reports of second-degree burns and six reports of third-degree burns.” Every model and color is covered; the steamers have “My Little Steamer” or “My Little Steamer Go Mini” printed on the side and a flat or triangular steamer head. Under the settlement the defendants also stopped making, importing and selling the steamers in the U.S., and they had told distributors and retailers to stop selling them on June 7, 2019. Health Canada’s recall notice lists the Canadian model numbers — NE244A, NE217A, YJ3048A, YJ3048B and YJ3048C (standard and Deluxe) and NE328A and YJ3048D (Go Mini) — and the settlement site tells Canadian buyers to use the same claim process.

The benefit depends on the model, the purchase year and the paperwork. The table follows the settlement agreement, Section V, which the notice repeats and the CPSC recall summarizes.

The Unique ID is the shortcut. HSN agreed to give the administrator a list of its own buyers, as far as its records allowed, and the 2021 notices carried a Unique ID that the site calls “proof of purchase for all Steamers purchased new directly from HSN.” With it, you do not need receipts for steamers bought from HSN unless you claim more than ten units; steamers bought at other stores still need a receipt for cash. Without it, the rule is stricter: “If you did not receive a Notice and purchased your Steamer(s) after January 1, 2015, you will need to provide Proof of Purchase in the form of a receipt to be eligible for a cash payment.” Steamers bought from a third-party store without a receipt get the $8 voucher “regardless of the date of purchase,” and so does a steamer you received from someone else. Anyone claiming more than ten units must show receipts, and then gets the lesser of the settlement amount and the price actually paid. The posted documents do not say how long an HSN voucher stays valid or how it is delivered; the administrator’s phone line is the place to ask.

How the numbers compare with what people paid. The final approval order cites the parties’ figures for the national average price: $16.20 for a Go Mini, $19.97 for a Deluxe and $35.45 for a combination package. The court described the 2015–2017 amounts as recovering “roughly 50% - 60% for the Mini and Deluxe models respectively” — by our arithmetic, $8 is 49 percent of $16.20 and $12 is 60 percent of $19.97. For older purchases, the court reasoned that the voucher “exceeds the best possible recovery in that the applicable statutes of limitations for such claims have expired.” There is no common fund and no pro-rata split: each valid claim is paid at the fixed rate, so the amount does not shrink if more people file. The $975,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs and the $5,000 service awards to Ms. Fiore and Ms. Seldin, both approved by the court, are owed by the defendants on top of the refunds, and the notice says they “will not reduce the amounts paid to any Class Member who files a valid claim.” After you are paid, the notice says to put the disabled steamer in the household trash; Health Canada adds that the law there prohibits passing a recalled product on.

Is there a deadline? The answer depends on which document you read, and they do not agree. The court-approved Long Form Notice, in its table of rights and deadlines, puts it plainly next to “Submit a Claim Form”: “No Deadline to file a Claim.” The only dates it lists are for opting out, objecting and appearing, all August 4, 2021, and the final approval hearing on September 10, 2021. The signed settlement agreement is narrower. Its Section V says “Settlement Class Members shall have 120 days following the Effective Date to submit claims for economic relief,” and it defines the Effective Date as the first day after final approval once the time to appeal has run out. With final approval on September 10, 2021 and no appeal on the docket, that window would have ended in about February 2022, by our arithmetic. The court’s own preliminary approval order of May 6, 2021 sets a similar limit: its schedule lists “Claim Deadline: 120 days after Final Approval,” which was January 8, 2022, by our count.

In practice, the claim form has stayed online. The CPSC notice names SteamerRecallSettlement.com and HSN’s toll-free number as the way to get a refund and lists no end date. On September 27, 2026 the official site still showed the claim instructions, the online claim form and the mailing address, without any cut-off, and its footer read “Updated: 1/14/2026.” ClassAction.org lists the deadline as “Varies.” The benefits are identical under the recall and the settlement, but no posted document says whether a claim filed after the 120-day window is still paid, how long processing would take, or how long the site will stay online; the site’s home page still carries its 2021 “Current Status” box about the September 10, 2021 hearing. Anyone who wants certainty about a specific claim can ask the administrator at 1-855-654-0942.

Is the website real? Yes. SteamerRecallSettlement.com is named in the CPSC’s own recall notice, in HSN’s May 2021 customer letter signed by Sharon Bailey, VP Customer Experience, and in the court-approved notice; its footer identifies Epiq, the administrator the court approved. The genuine addresses are P.O. Box 3698, Portland, OR 97208-3698 for claims and 1-855-654-0942 for questions. HSN’s 2021 letter told customers that “HSN has received more than 200 reports of hot water spraying or leaking from the Steamers, including more than 100 reports of burn injuries,” and asked anyone who had given a steamer away to forward the notice. A letter from 2021 with a Unique ID on it is still useful: that number is what lets the administrator match your claim to HSN’s sales records without a receipt. If you have lost it, the claim can still be filed, with a receipt or for the voucher.

What the settlement does not cover. The release that bound every class member from 2021 on has a carve-out that matters for a product recalled over burns: it applies “With the exception of any claims for personal injuries allegedly caused by use of the Steamers.” The class settlement dealt with the money paid for the steamers, not with injuries. Everything else arising out of buying or using a steamer was released for everyone who did not opt out by August 4, 2021, whether or not they ever file a claim. The court kept jurisdiction over the administration of the settlement.

Other names for the same product. Court papers call it the “Joy Mangano My Little Steamer”; the recall calls it the “Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer® and My Little Steamer® Go Mini.” Combination packs of both sizes count, and the claim form gives them their own model code (A3), next to A1 for the Go Mini and A2 for the Deluxe. A steamer of another brand, or a Joy Mangano product that is not a My Little Steamer, is not part of this settlement or this recall.
