MoneyLion Lawsuit: Two Closed Settlements, Open Class Actions

Active Litigation

Claim deadline was September 2, 2025 · as of Oct 14, 2026

Get a free case reviewCan I still file?

People searching for a MoneyLion lawsuit payout usually mean one of two finished deals: a $1.75 million CFPB judgment for military borrowers (entered November 24, 2025) or a $12.75 million stockholder settlement whose claim deadline was September 2, 2025. Neither has a public payout date. The newer cases — referral texts from friends, and “turbo fees” and tips on Instacash — are still being fought. As of October 2026 none of them has a settlement or claim form.

What the MoneyLion Cases Are About

There is no single MoneyLion lawsuit. There are three kinds.

Military lending. The CFPB alleged that MoneyLion charged servicemembers and their dependents annual percentage rates above what the Military Lending Act allows, which is 36%. It also alleged that borrowers with unpaid loans could not leave a paid membership program costing $19.99 to $29 a month, and were charged after asking to cancel. MoneyLion disputed the allegations in September 2022.

Fees as hidden interest. Private class actions and the New York Attorney General allege that Instacash “turbo fees,” “tips” and membership fees are really interest. MoneyLion advertises these advances as “0% APR.” New York alleges the instant-delivery fee can be as high as $8.99 for a $100 advance, which works out to an annual rate of 234 percent.

Referral texts. A Washington class action alleges that MoneyLion paid users (as of March 2025, $60 per friend who joined) to text sign-up links to their contacts. It argues that this makes MoneyLion responsible for texts sent to people who never agreed to receive them. This is the “did a friend text you a MoneyLion link?” case.

Case details

CFPB v. MoneyLion Technologies Inc., No. 1:22-cv-08308 (S.D.N.Y.). Filed September 29, 2022 against MoneyLion, ML Plus and 37 lending subsidiaries. Resolved by a stipulated final judgment entered November 24, 2025. CFPB case page.

Martel and Bryant v. Fusion Sponsor LLC, C.A. No. 2024-0329-NAC (Delaware Court of Chancery). A stockholder suit over the SPAC merger that took MoneyLion public. MoneyLion itself is not a defendant. Approved July 24, 2025.

Murphy v. MoneyLion Technologies, Inc., No. 2:26-cv-01308 (W.D. Wash.). Filed March 3, 2026 in King County Superior Court (No. 26-2-07563-8 KNT) and moved to federal court on April 15, 2026.

Burkhardt v. MoneyLion Technologies Inc., No. 1:25-cv-06761 (S.D.N.Y.), for servicemembers and their spouses plus a Florida subclass. Bisquera v. MoneyLion Technologies, Inc., No. 5:26-cv-03296 (C.D. Cal.), filed June 15, 2026. Yee v. Moneylion Technologies Inc., No. 3:26-cv-07322 (N.D. Cal.). We have not been able to confirm what it alleges.

Separately, the New York Attorney General sued MoneyLion and DailyPay on April 14, 2025, seeking restitution and civil penalties.

Status as of October 2026

Two MoneyLion lawsuit settlements are finished. Every consumer class action is still open.

CFPB judgment: MoneyLion must pay $1.75 million in consumer redress. It covers borrowers with outstanding MoneyLion loans between December 2017 and October 2024, and MoneyLion must report to the CFPB how many borrowers received redress and how much each was paid. No public payment date or claim form has been published.

Stockholder settlement: The $12.75 million fund was approved July 24, 2025, and the claim deadline was September 2, 2025. The administrator says only that distribution “will take some time.”

Murphy (texts): MoneyLion moved to dismiss in May 2026. Bisquera (fees): motion briefing was under way on October 10, 2026. Burkhardt and Yee were also active in October 2026.

None of these private cases has a settlement, a fund or a claim form.

Follow this case

There's no claim deadline yet. We'll email you if a settlement opens a claim period.

Which Case, If Any, Covers You

You took out a MoneyLion loan as an active-duty servicemember or military dependent: the CFPB judgment is the one that pays. It covers loans outstanding between December 2017 and October 2024. No claim form has been published. Keep your bank statements showing MoneyLion payments.

You held Fusion Acquisition Corp. Class A shares on September 17, 2021 and did not redeem them: you are in the stockholder class. It is a non-opt-out class, and the claim deadline of September 2, 2025 has passed. The administrator's line is 1-877-390-3144.

A friend texted you a MoneyLion invite link while you lived in Washington: you fall within the proposed Murphy class. The class has not been certified.

You paid turbo fees, tips or membership fees on Instacash or Credit Builder: the Bisquera (California), Burkhardt (servicemembers and Florida) and New York cases are about you. All are unresolved. You do not have to sign up anywhere to be included in a class action.

What a MoneyLion Class Action Lawsuit Payout Looks Like

Open cases: no settlement, no fund, no claim form. Nothing is payable from Murphy, Bisquera, Burkhardt or Yee as of October 2026, and nobody can tell you what they will pay.

The Murphy complaint asks for Washington's statutory damages, which are the greater of $500 per text or actual damages. That is a demand, not a result.

Closed deals: the $1.75 million CFPB redress is split among eligible military borrowers. No per-person amount has been published. The $12.75 million stockholder fund goes to claimants after fees and expenses. Neither will pay a MoneyLion class action lawsuit payout to ordinary app users who were not in those groups.

MoneyLion Lawsuit Timeline

  1. September 29, 2022 — CFPB Sues

The CFPB sues MoneyLion and 37 lending subsidiaries in federal court in Manhattan under the Military Lending Act. MoneyLion disputes the allegations.

  2. April 14, 2025 — New York Sues

The New York Attorney General sues MoneyLion and DailyPay. New York alleges that cash-advance fees and tips are illegal interest, and it seeks restitution.

  3. July 24, 2025 — Stockholder Deal Approved

The Delaware Court of Chancery approves the $12.75 million SPAC settlement. Claims were due September 2, 2025.

  4. November 24, 2025 — CFPB Judgment Entered

The court enters the stipulated judgment: $1.75 million in redress, a 36% rate cap for covered borrowers, and no more blocked membership cancellations.

  5. March–July 2026 — New Class Actions

Murphy (referral texts) is filed March 3, 2026. Bisquera (fees) follows June 15, 2026 and Yee July 16, 2026.

  6. October 2026 — Open Cases, No New Settlement

Motions are being briefed in the private cases. No consumer class settlement, fund or claim form exists.

Three Things to Watch For

A familiar app, two real settlements and several open suits make an easy cover story:

“Claim your MoneyLion settlement payment” texts

The referral-text lawsuit is about unsolicited links, and a fake “settlement” link is the same trick. No MoneyLion consumer settlement is taking claims. Do not enter your MoneyLion login or bank details from a texted link.

Fees to release your CFPB refund

The $1.75 million redress comes from the court judgment. Nobody legitimately charges you a processing fee or asks for your full Social Security number by phone to release it. Check claims against the CFPB's own case page.

Late stockholder claim offers

The Fusion Acquisition stockholder claim deadline was September 2, 2025. Anyone offering to file a late claim for a fee, or to buy your share of the fund, is not the administrator.

MoneyLion Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask

Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.

What is the MoneyLion lawsuit payout date?

No date has been published for either finished settlement. The CFPB judgment was entered November 24, 2025, and MoneyLion must report how many borrowers were paid and how much each received. The stockholder administrator says only that distribution “will take some time” after the July 24, 2025 approval. The open class actions have no payout at all.

Is there a MoneyLion lawsuit claim form I can file?

Not as of October 2026. The only claim form belonged to the stockholder settlement, and its deadline was September 2, 2025. No claim form has been published for the CFPB redress. The referral-text and fee cases have not settled.

A friend texted me a MoneyLion sign-up link. Am I part of a lawsuit?

Only potentially, and only in Washington. Murphy v. MoneyLion proposes a class of people who received a referral text while living in Washington. It seeks $500 per text under state law. MoneyLion moved to dismiss in May 2026, and no class has been certified. Elsewhere, no case covering referral texts has been confirmed.

Who gets the $1.75 million from the CFPB settlement?

Military borrowers covered by the Military Lending Act whose MoneyLion loans were outstanding between December 2017 and October 2024. Reports describe the money as paid by MoneyLion under the judgment. MoneyLion has to give the CFPB a sworn report on who was paid.

Will MoneyLion report to credit over unpaid membership fees?

Not under the CFPB settlement. It bars MoneyLion from hurting borrowers' credit scores over unpaid membership fees and from collecting past unpaid membership fees. This page does not cover MoneyLion's general credit reporting on loans. That is set out in your loan agreement.

Are the Instacash turbo fees and tips really illegal interest?

That is what Bisquera, Burkhardt and the New York Attorney General allege, and no court has decided it. New York says more than half of MoneyLion's loans carry annual rates above 500 percent once fees are counted. For other cash-advance apps facing the same theory, see our cash advance lawsuit overview.

Does the stockholder settlement have anything to do with MoneyLion customers?

No. It concerns investors in Fusion Acquisition Corp., the SPAC that took MoneyLion public. The class is holders who kept Class A shares at the September 17, 2021 redemption deadline. App users are not part of it unless they were also those investors. Details are on the official settlement site.

What is the average payout per person in a class action lawsuit?

There is no meaningful average. It depends on the fund size, fees and how many people file. For MoneyLion specifically, no per-person figure has been published for either finished settlement. Questions about MoneyLion's stock price are a market matter that this page does not cover.
