What the BJC MyChart Lawsuit Alleged
BJC HealthCare is the St. Louis nonprofit system behind Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The plaintiffs alleged that BJC’s web properties, BJC.org and BarnesJewish.org, including the MyChart patient portal, carried tracking tools that sent patient data to Facebook, Google, SiteScout, Invoca and the TradeDesk “without patient knowledge, consent, authorization, or affirmative action.” Per the class notice, that covered communications about bills, doctors, treatments, conditions and appointments.
BJC denies any wrongdoing or liability. No court found that BJC broke the law; the case ended in a settlement, not a verdict.
Case Details
MyChart privacy case (settled): John Doe et al. v. BJC Health System d/b/a BJC HealthCare, Case No. 2222-CC09151-01, Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis, Missouri, before the Honorable David C. Mason. This is a state court, not a federal one.
2020 email phishing breach (settled earlier): after a March 2020 phishing attack on three BJC email accounts, which touched 19 affiliated hospitals and about 288,000 people, five class actions were filed. TechTarget reported the settlement on July 20, 2022: up to $250 for ordinary out-of-pocket costs, up to $5,000 for documented extraordinary losses, and security measures BJC estimated at about $2.7 million. That case is long closed.
Employees: a proposed wage-and-hour class action by a former nurse, Speraneo v. BJC Health System, was reported in St. Louis Circuit Court in October 2013. It is not a patient case, and we found no current coverage of it.
Status: Settled, Claims Closed, Payments Issued
Is there a more recent BJC lawsuit? As of October 5, 2026 we found no newer filed class action against BJC over MyChart or a data breach. Some law firms run BJC “data breach investigation” pages; an investigation is a lawyer looking for clients, not a lawsuit and not a settlement. As of October 5, 2026, the official site address, BJCPrivacySettlement.com, did not load for us. Treat any other site offering a “BJC claim” with suspicion.
Who Was in the BJC MyChart Settlement
The class was everyone who used BJC’s MyChart patient portal between June 2017 and August 2022. BJC, its affiliates, officers and directors, and the judge’s staff were excluded.
Being in the class was not enough to be paid: the only way to get a cash payment was a valid claim form, filed by October 8, 2025. People who did nothing got no payment and gave up their right to sue BJC over the released claims. People who opted out by September 8, 2025 kept that right but got no money.
If you used BJC MyChart after August 2022, or only visited a BJC hospital without the portal, you were outside this class.
What the BJC Settlement Paid
That is typical of hospital pixel settlements: a small flat amount spread across a very large class. Compare other MyChart cases with the MyChart settlement calculator. There is nothing left to claim now.

Three Things to Watch For
A closed, already-paid settlement with a lot of search interest attracts these:
“BJC claim still open” pages
Some settlement aggregator pages still carry an “open for claims” badge next to a “Closed” status. The deadline was October 8, 2025. A site asking for your MyChart login or Social Security number to “file late” is collecting data, not filing anything.
“Join the new BJC lawsuit” ads
A law-firm “BJC data breach investigation” is advertising, not a case. As of October 5, 2026 we found no newer filed BJC class action. A retainer is a real contract — read it before signing, and never pay to “register” for a class.
The “$2,500 MyChart check”
Social posts promise thousands from MyChart settlements. The BJC deal paid $35 per claim; larger figures in these cases are service awards to the named plaintiffs. Our check of the $2,500 rumor compares the real payouts.

Contact the BJC Privacy Settlement Administrator at 1-888-438-8534 or P.O. Box 2600, Portland, OR 97208-2600. Do not pay anyone who offers to recover it for you.
Is there a more recent lawsuit against BJC?

What about the BJC data breach lawsuit from 2020?
That is a separate, older case. A March 2020 phishing attack exposed records of about 288,000 people, and five class actions followed. TechTarget reported the settlement on July 20, 2022: up to $250 for ordinary costs and up to $5,000 for extraordinary losses. It is closed.

No. The bjc healthcare lawsuit over MyChart was in Missouri state court — the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit, City of St. Louis — before Judge David C. Mason.
Are there other MyChart settlements I might qualify for?
Possibly, if you used another hospital’s portal. SSM Health, also in St. Louis, had its own case — see the SSM Health MyChart lawsuit. For deadlines that are still open, check open class action settlements.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
