Ascension MyChart Lawsuit: Two Cases, No Settlement Yet
Questions about this case?

If you searched for an Ascension lawsuit, there are two different things in the news. The big one is the Ascension data breach: a May 2024 ransomware attack that exposed data on nearly 5.6 million people and is now a consolidated class action in federal court in St. Louis. The newer one, reported in June 2026, alleges Ascension’s website passed patient searches to Google. As of October 6, 2026, neither has a settlement, a claim form or a deadline.

What the Lawsuits Say Happened
The ransomware case. On May 8, 2024, Ascension’s network was hit by a ransomware attack. According to the court, hackers copied files containing patients’ health and identity information. Ascension later reported 5,599,699 affected people to federal regulators. The complaints allege Ascension failed to use reasonable safeguards, such as encryption, and failed to train staff and monitor its systems. Ascension disputes injury, causation and damages.
The tracking case. On June 16, 2026 the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported a proposed class action alleging that tracking code on Ascension’s website sent sensitive search data to Google. The named plaintiff, a St. Louis County resident, says she searched the site in 2025 for a doctor who treats arthritis and then saw targeted ads. The lawsuit alleges Ascension “partnered with third parties, e.g., Google, to license the use of certain trackers.” These are allegations; no court has ruled on them.
We found no lawsuit about the Meta Pixel and none aimed at the Ascension MyChart portal itself.
Case Details
The ransomware cases are consolidated as Negron v. Ascension Health, No. 4:24-cv-00669-JAR, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, before Judge John A. Ross. The defendants are Ascension Health, Ascension Health-IS Inc. (Ascension Technologies) and Ascension Health Alliance. The court folded twelve other cases into Negron in July 2024; by April 2026 the court counted fourteen consolidated cases, including Coton v. Ascension, No. 4:25-cv-00072-JAR. The court’s September 23, 2025 ruling is public on GovInfo.
For the Google tracking case, the news report we found did not name the court or a case number, and we could not confirm either.
Status: Ransomware Case Past Motion to Dismiss, No Settlement
On September 23, 2025 Judge Ross let the negligence claim and several state consumer-protection claims go forward and dismissed others, including breach of contract and unjust enrichment. On April 9, 2026 he did the same for the Coton group: negligence and breach of fiduciary duty survive; the Stored Communications Act claim was dismissed. Surviving a motion to dismiss means the case continues to discovery — not that anyone has won.
The Google tracking suit is at the very start. Its plaintiff has asked for class certification; no ruling had been reported.

Are You Part of an Ascension Lawsuit?
Ransomware case: the proposed nationwide class is “all United States residents whose Personal Information was compromised in the Data Breach discovered by Ascension in May 2024,” with state subclasses for Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. The practical test is a notice letter from Ascension; letters started going out after December 19, 2024. Keep it.
Tracking case: the proposed class would cover people whose activity on Ascension’s website was allegedly shared with Google. The class has not been defined by a court.
Ascension’s patient portal is Ascension MyChart, run on Epic, with regional logins such as Ascension Wisconsin. Our form below asks whether you used the website or MyChart, what you did there and when you last did it. That record matters if a tracking case ever reaches a settlement, because classes in these cases are usually defined by what you used and when.
What Could an Ascension Settlement Pay?
For context only, other hospitals’ tracking cases that did settle: Wellstar agreed to $4.25 million for about 870,000 people, with claims closing November 10; Loyola Medicine settled for $2.67 million, now closed; and the Christ Hospital set up a $7,000,000 fund for more than 323,000 people. Ascension’s breach class is far larger, so any per-person flat payment would likely be small. In breach settlements the documented-loss track usually matters more, so keep receipts for any fraud losses. The data breach settlement calculator gives rough ranges.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 123,245 other contract casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 5.8% of them filed as class actions:
- 30.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 20.2% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 30.9% and 51.1%.
- 7.6% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 71 reached a trial (1.4%), after a median of 29.3 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 7.6 months.
- Only 7,369 of them (6%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $402,000.

Three Things to Watch For
Millions of notice letters plus a well-known name make Ascension an easy hook:
“Claim your Ascension settlement” messages
There is no Ascension settlement and no claims site. A page asking for your Social Security number or bank details to “reserve your payment” is collecting data, not filing a claim.
Fake MyChart login links
Texts or emails saying you must log in to MyChart to join a lawsuit are phishing. Open Ascension MyChart only by typing the address yourself or through the official app — never from a lawsuit message.
Credit-monitoring re-enrollment calls
Ascension’s real offer ran through IDX, and some people really did have to re-enroll in December 2024. Callers using that story to ask for your full Social Security number or a fee are not Ascension. The Ascension helpline was (866) 724-3233.
Ascension Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there an Ascension MyChart lawsuit?
Not about MyChart itself, as far as we could find as of October 6, 2026. There is a June 2026 lawsuit alleging Ascension’s public website shared health searches with Google, and the much larger ransomware data breach case. We found no Meta Pixel case against Ascension.
Is there an Ascension data breach settlement?
No. Negron v. Ascension Health, No. 4:24-cv-00669, is still being litigated in the Eastern District of Missouri. There is no settlement, fund, claim form or deadline. If one is reached, class members are notified by a court-appointed administrator.
How many people were affected by the Ascension data breach?
Ascension reported 5,599,699 people to federal regulators in December 2024. News reports round this to about 5.6 million.
What data was stolen in the Ascension breach?
Depending on the person: name, address, date of birth, medical record number, dates of service, lab test types, procedure codes, insurance IDs, payment card or bank account numbers, and Social Security, driver’s license or passport numbers. Ascension said it found no evidence the attackers got into its electronic health records.
Do I have to sign up to be part of the Ascension lawsuit?
No. If a class is certified or a settlement is approved, you are included unless you opt out. There is nothing to register for now.
What is the Ascension patient portal called?
Ascension MyChart, built on Epic, with regional versions such as Ascension Wisconsin MyChart. The tracking lawsuit reported in June 2026 concerns the public website, not the logged-in portal.
How have other hospital MyChart and pixel cases ended?
Several settled: Wellstar for $4.25 million, Loyola Medicine for $2.67 million and the Christ Hospital for $7,000,000. Others were dismissed or are still pending. Our MyChart claim form guide lists which are open.
What should I do right now?
Keep your Ascension notice letter. Freeze your credit at all three bureaus. Check insurance explanation-of-benefits statements for care you never got. If you used Ascension’s website or MyChart, note what you did and when — our form asks exactly that.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
