Yes, there was a Piedmont Healthcare lawsuit over the Meta Pixel on piedmont.org and the Piedmont MyChart portal. A federal judge in Atlanta dismissed it on August 28, 2024, refused to revive it on December 10, 2024, and the plaintiffs dropped their appeal in May 2025. As of October 2026 there is no settlement, no fund and no claim form for Piedmont patients — unlike the Wellstar case down the road, which did settle.

What the Lawsuit Said Happened
The case is T.D. v. Piedmont Healthcare, Inc. The complaint alleged that from at least 2020 to approximately June 2022, piedmont.org and the patient portal at mychart.piedmont.org ran the Meta Pixel, a snippet of code that reports page activity to Facebook for advertising.
According to the lawsuit, the pixel could send Facebook a patient's name, appointment type and date, provider details, treatment location, medical condition, IP address, buttons clicked and contact information. The complaint pointed to a June 16, 2022 article by The Markup that named Piedmont. No court ever found that the alleged sharing happened.
The plaintiffs sought a class of Georgia residents whose information was disclosed through the pixel on the two sites. The complaint describes Piedmont as running 23 hospitals, 65 urgent care centers and nearly 1,900 clinics.
Case Details
The suit was filed on October 25, 2023 in the Superior Court of Fulton County (No. 2023CV387619). Piedmont moved it to federal court on November 27, 2023: T.D. v. Piedmont Healthcare, Inc., No. 1:23-cv-05416, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, before Judge Thomas W. Thrash, Jr.
On August 28, 2024 Judge Thrash granted Piedmont's motion to dismiss the amended complaint. He wrote that “cases like this have sprouted like weeds in recent years,” that there is “no intrusion upon privacy when a patient voluntarily provides” information to their own provider, and that the plaintiffs' damages theories were “untenable.” He also dismissed the federal Wiretap Act claim. On December 10, 2024 he denied a motion to reconsider or to file a second amended complaint. You can read the August 2024 dismissal order.
The plaintiffs appealed to the Eleventh Circuit (No. 25-10105). According to Justia's docket summary, that appeal was voluntarily dismissed at their request on May 9, 2025. We could not open the appellate docket itself to confirm this.
Status: Dismissed, Appeal Withdrawn
That is the opposite outcome from Wellstar, another Atlanta-area health system, whose MyChart pixel case was in the same federal courthouse and reached a proposed settlement that awaits final approval. See our Wellstar MyChart lawsuit page. If anything changes for Piedmont, class members would be notified by a court-appointed administrator.
Were You Affected, and Does It Matter Now?
The proposed class covered Georgia residents who used piedmont.org or Piedmont MyChart while the pixel was allegedly active, from at least 2020 to about June 2022. Because the case was dismissed before any class was certified, being in that group gives you no claim to money today.
What you can still check: whether you also used another health system's site or portal. Our form on this page asks whether you used the website or MyChart, what you did there (booked appointments, read results, messaged a doctor) and when you last did it. Those answers decide whether a different hospital's settlement might apply to you. Our MyChart class action claim form guide lists the open ones.
What Piedmont Patients Can Expect
For context only, here is how two other hospital pixel cases ended. Wellstar agreed to a $4.25 million MyChart pixel settlement covering about 870,000 people, with claims closing November 10, 2026. BJC HealthCare's MyChart settlement paid $35 per claimant after final approval on October 16, 2025. Those numbers belong to those cases; they say nothing about Piedmont. Our MyChart settlement calculator explains how these funds are divided.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 111,990 other personal injury casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 3.6% of them filed as class actions:
- 39.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 13.8% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 39.9% and 53.7%.
- 5.7% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 106 reached a trial (0.9%), after a median of 23.9 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 9 months.
- Only 771 of them (0.7%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $500,000.

Three Things to Watch For
Patients who hear about the Wellstar payout may get pitches that blur the two systems:
“Claim your Piedmont MyChart settlement”
There is no Piedmont pixel settlement, so there is no Piedmont claim site. A page asking for your MyChart login, date of birth or insurance ID to “verify eligibility” is collecting data, not filing a claim.
Wellstar notices that mention Piedmont
The Wellstar settlement is real but covers Wellstar patients only. A message saying Piedmont patients can join it, or that Piedmont is “part of” that case, is wrong. Check the official Wellstar notice before entering anything.
Fake MyChart security messages
Lawsuit news gets reused as bait: “your MyChart data was leaked, log in here.” Open MyChart only by typing piedmont.org yourself or using the official app, never from a link in an unexpected text or email.
Piedmont Healthcare Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a Piedmont Healthcare MyChart lawsuit?
There was. T.D. v. Piedmont Healthcare, Inc. (N.D. Ga. No. 1:23-cv-05416) alleged the Meta Pixel on piedmont.org and Piedmont MyChart shared patient data with Facebook. It was dismissed on August 28, 2024, and the appeal was voluntarily dismissed in May 2025.
Is there a Piedmont Healthcare settlement I can claim?
No. As of October 6, 2026, there is no Piedmont tracking settlement, no fund, no administrator and no claim form. The case ended in Piedmont's favor.
Why did the Piedmont case lose when Wellstar settled?
Judge Thrash found that sharing information with your own provider is not an intrusion on privacy and that the plaintiffs had not shown real damages. The Wellstar case produced a proposed class settlement instead of a ruling on those questions. Different judges and different choices by the parties produce different outcomes.
Has there been a Piedmont Healthcare data breach?
Not a direct hack of Piedmont that led to a lawsuit, as far as we found. In 2020, the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation was caught up in a breach at its fundraising vendor, Blackbaud, and some patients got letters. We found no Piedmont-specific settlement from that incident.
What is the Piedmont patient portal called?
Piedmont MyChart, at mychart.piedmont.org. The lawsuit named both that portal and the public website, piedmont.org.
Can the Piedmont case be refiled?
The court refused a second amended complaint, and the plaintiffs gave up their appeal, so this case is finished. We cannot rule out a new lawsuit on a different theory, but none had been filed as of October 6, 2026.
I used both Piedmont and Wellstar. What should I do?
Look only at the Wellstar settlement, and only if you used Wellstar's own site or portal. Our Wellstar settlement news covers that deadline.
What is worth doing now?
Check whether another hospital you used has an open pixel settlement. If you ever got a breach letter from any provider, keep it, and use our data breach settlement calculator to see what such cases usually pay.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
