VW Atlas Water Pump Settlement: Claims Close October 5, and the Warranty Extension Runs to 85,000 Miles

The class covers people who bought or leased a 2018-2022 Volkswagen Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport fitted with the 3.6-liter engine. Former owners and lessees are included, not only current ones — if you have since sold the vehicle but paid for the repair while you owned it, you are still in the class.

The underlying claim is that the main engine water pump fails prematurely and leaks coolant. Volkswagen has not admitted wrongdoing and settled for an undisclosed sum.

Two separate benefits, and most people will care about only one of them.

A warranty extension. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty is extended to cover 80% of the cost of repairing or replacing a failed main engine water pump, for up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles. This one needs no claim form — it applies going forward.

Reimbursement for money already spent. If you paid out of pocket, you can claim 80% of the cost of one water pump repair or replacement, capped at $820, and up to two head gasket repairs, capped at $3,325. The head gasket part only counts if the repair was done because of a coolant leak or low coolant.

Claim forms must be postmarked no later than October 5, 2026. The form is downloaded and sent by first-class mail — this is not an online-only claim.

The deadline to exclude yourself or object was August 5, 2026, and has passed. The final approval hearing is set for September 10, 2026; payments do not go out until a settlement is finally approved and any appeals are resolved, so expect a wait after the hearing rather than a cheque in October.

Repair invoices or records, proof that you paid, and proof you owned or leased the vehicle at the time of the repair. For a head gasket claim you also need documentation that the repair was done because of a coolant leak or low coolant level.

If you no longer have the invoice, the dealership that did the work will usually still have it on file — that is the first place to ask.

Deadlines in class action settlements do occasionally move, and an extension is far more common than a date being brought forward. Check the date printed on the claim form itself before you rely on it.
