General Electric Lawsuit: Which Cases Are Still Open in 2026

Questions about this case?

AI Legal Assistant · free · answers in seconds · general information, not legal advice

There is no open General Electric lawsuit with a claim form for consumers as of October 2026. The biggest recent case — a $362.5 million shareholder settlement — closed to claims on June 20, 2025. In July 2026 a New York court dismissed the last related shareholder derivative suit. The newest item is an export-control penalty, not a lawsuit. And the GE refrigerator case is against GE Appliances, which is a different company.

What the Cases Against General Electric Are About

“General Electric” today means GE Aerospace, the company that still files as General Electric Company. GE HealthCare and GE Vernova were spun off — GE Vernova on April 2, 2024 — and GE-branded appliances are made by Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc., doing business as GE Appliances. Which company you dealt with decides which case could concern you.

Shareholders: the investor class action alleged that GE misled the market about using factoring — selling receivables early — to hide cash-flow problems at GE Power. GE and its former CFO settled on the eve of trial.

Refrigerator owners: a proposed class action alleges that certain GE Appliances refrigerators have defective compressors that fail long before the end of the fridge’s expected life, and that owners were charged $1,100 to $1,800 plus labor for repairs the warranty should have covered.

Export controls: the State Department alleged that GE Aerospace committed 116 violations of U.S. arms-export rules, including unauthorized exports of technical data to China, and resolved the matter by settlement. GE disclosed the alleged violations itself.

Case Details

Securities class action: Sjunde AP-Fonden v. General Electric Co., Case No. 17 Civ 8457 (JMF), U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, before Judge Jesse M. Furman. Official site: GeneralElectricSecuritiesLitigation.com (administrator: JND Legal Administration).

Derivative suits: the Lindsey and Priest/Tola cases in New York state court made claims on behalf of the company over the same facts. Lindsey was dismissed. Priest/Tola was dismissed with prejudice in July 2026, according to GE’s quarterly report for the period ending June 30, 2026.

Refrigerators: Blurton v. Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc. d/b/a GE Appliances, No. 3:24-cv-00225, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, before Chief Judge Greg N. Stivers. It was filed April 4, 2024.

Other matters GE reports: mortgage lawsuits in Poland tied to its former Bank BPH, and lawsuits alleging that workers and others were exposed to asbestos or PCBs. Our asbestos lawsuit calculator explains how exposure claims of that kind are valued.

Status as of October 2026, Case by Case

Shareholder settlement — closed to new claims. The $362,500,000 settlement covers people who bought GE common stock between February 29, 2016 and January 23, 2018. Judge Furman gave final approval on April 24, 2025. The claim deadline was June 20, 2025 and has passed. We could not confirm from the settlement website whether payments have gone out. If you filed a claim, contact JND at 1-844-202-9485.

Derivative suit — dismissed. Priest/Tola was dismissed with prejudice in July 2026. Derivative suits seek money for the company, not for individual shareholders.

Export-control penalty — resolved in April 2026. The State Department announced a $36 million civil penalty, with $18 million suspended on condition that it is spent on compliance improvements. This is a government enforcement matter. No one files a claim.

GE Appliances refrigerator case — pending. On March 27, 2025 the judge granted part and denied part of the motion to dismiss, so some claims went forward. The court index we checked shows no final ruling or settlement. There is no fund and no claim form.

Are You Affected?

You owned GE stock between February 29, 2016 and January 23, 2018: you may be in the settled investor class. Unless you filed by June 20, 2025, you cannot file a new claim. If your broker filed one for you, ask the broker about the payment.

You are in GE’s 401(k) plan: a separate retirement-plan class action in Massachusetts federal court covered participants from September 26, 2011. GE agreed to pay $61 million in September 2023, and the court preliminarily approved the settlement in October 2023. We could not confirm the final approval from the sources we checked.

You own a GE-branded refrigerator with a failed compressor: the Blurton case seeks a class of owners, but no class has been certified and nothing is payable. Keep repair invoices and warranty correspondence.

You work or worked at a GE site: see the federal records section below. Those are agency records, not class actions.

Is There Money, and How Much?

Nothing is open for new claims as of October 2026.

The investor settlement is the only large fund, and its claim window closed on June 20, 2025. Class counsel could request fees of up to 25% of the fund. Per-share payouts depend on when you bought and sold. The final amounts are set by the administrator’s plan of allocation, not by this page.

The refrigerator case has no settlement, no fund and no claim form. The $36 million export penalty goes to the government, not to the public. For settlements that are actually accepting claims, see our list of open class action settlements.

How cases like this one end

Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 16,553 federal civil cases of this typeclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 27.2% of them filed as class actions:

  • •8.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 41.5% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 8.9% and 50.4%.
  • •10% were decided on a motion before any trial.
  • •1 in 153 reached a trial (0.7%), after a median of 37.4 months.
  • •Median time from filing to the end of the case: 4.5 months.
  • •Only 1,000 of them (6%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $1,072,500.

Three Things to Watch For

A well-known name plus a closed settlement is a common setup for fake claims:

“Late claims still accepted” for the GE investor fund

The deadline was June 20, 2025. The only administrator is JND Legal Administration, through GeneralElectricSecuritiesLitigation.com. A caller asking for an upfront fee to recover your share, or offering to buy your claim, is not the court’s administrator.

“GE refrigerator settlement” claim pages

The Blurton case has not settled. A page asking for your fridge serial number and bank details to file a payout is collecting data. No legitimate claim process exists yet.

Messages about the $36 million export fine

The ITAR penalty is paid to the U.S. government. No consumer, shareholder or employee can claim any of it, so any message offering you a share is fake.

General Electric Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask

Is there a General Electric class action I can join right now?

Not as of October 2026. The investor settlement closed to claims on June 20, 2025, the 401(k) case settled in 2023, and the GE Appliances refrigerator case has no settlement or claim form.

I bought GE stock in 2017. Did I miss the settlement?

If you did not file by June 20, 2025, yes. The class covered purchases from February 29, 2016 to January 23, 2018. If you or your broker filed, ask JND Legal Administration about your payment at 1-844-202-9485.

Is GE Appliances the same company as General Electric?

No. GE-branded appliances are sold by Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc., which does business as GE Appliances. The refrigerator lawsuit names Haier US Appliance Solutions, not General Electric Company.

What is the GE refrigerator lawsuit about?

Blurton v. Haier US Appliance Solutions (No. 3:24-cv-00225, W.D. Ky.) alleges that compressors in certain GE Appliances refrigerators fail early and that owners paid for repairs the warranty should have covered. On March 27, 2025 the court let parts of the case proceed. It has not settled.

Why did GE pay $36 million to the State Department?

To resolve 116 alleged violations of the Arms Export Control Act and ITAR, including unauthorized exports of technical data to China. GE Aerospace disclosed the alleged violations itself. $18 million is suspended on condition that GE spends it on compliance improvements.

Are the Labor Department records lawsuits against GE?

No. They are 12 wage-and-hour investigations at establishments operating under the General Electric name, which can include authorized dealers and franchise locations. They are agency investigations, not lawsuits or class actions.

What happened to the shareholder derivative lawsuits?

Since February 2018, several were filed over the same facts as the investor case. The last one pending, Priest/Tola in New York state court, was dismissed with prejudice in July 2026.

Can I still sue GE over asbestos or PCB exposure?

Individual exposure lawsuits are possible. GE reports that it and its subsidiaries are defendants in such cases. These are individual claims with state-specific filing deadlines, not a class action, so talk to a licensed attorney about your own facts.

This page is for general information only and is not legal advice. Lawsuit status, eligibility, and compensation can change. Settlement Insight is not a law firm and does not represent any party. Consult a licensed attorney about your specific situation.
