Geisinger MyChart Lawsuit: What Exists, What Paid, What Closed

Two different things get called the Geisinger lawsuit. One is a 2023 state-court claim that Geisinger’s public website sent patients’ searches to Facebook and Google — we found no settlement and no claim form for it. The other is the Geisinger data breach of November 2023, when a fired Nuance employee took records of about 1.3 million patients. That case settled for $5 million, and its claim deadline passed on March 18, 2026.

What the Lawsuits Say Happened
Website tracking. In May 2023 a patient using the pseudonym Jane Doe sued Geisinger in Lackawanna County Court. The lawsuit alleges that a tracking tool on Geisinger’s website gave Facebook, Google and other companies real-time access to searches patients ran there — in her case, searches for back pain and asthma, followed by back-pain ads on Facebook. It sought damages on four counts, including violation of wiretap laws, invasion of privacy and breach of confidentiality. Facebook and Google were not named as defendants.
The suit was about the public website, not the patient portal. In June 2022 Geisinger said the tool “is not used on any areas of Geisinger’s websites where protected health information passes through such as patient portals or direct scheduling pages.” Geisinger’s portal is called MyGeisinger; it runs on Epic’s MyChart app.
The Nuance insider breach. Nuance Communications, an IT vendor to Geisinger, held patient data for its work. A former Nuance employee accessed Geisinger patient records two days after being fired; Geisinger detected it on or about November 29, 2023. Per a lawsuit filing, the records included names, birthdates, addresses, medical record numbers, race, gender, phone numbers and admission, discharge or transfer codes. Geisinger has said Social Security numbers and financial information were not accessed. Patients were notified starting June 24, 2024; the delay was at law enforcement’s request.
Case Details
The breach suits were consolidated as In re Geisinger Health Data Security Incident Litigation, No. 4:24-cv-01071, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, before Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann. Defendants: Geisinger Health and Nuance Communications, Inc. Kroll Settlement Administration was appointed administrator; the official site is GeisingerDataSettlement.com.
The website-tracking suit was filed in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas. We could not find its docket number or how it ended.
A third, unrelated case involves Geisinger employees, not patients: a no-poach antitrust class action, No. 4:21-cv-00196, also before Judge Brann.
Status: Breach Settlement Final, Claims Closed
For website or MyGeisinger tracking, we found no settlement, no fund, no administrator, no claim form and no deadline. We also found no reported ruling in the 2023 county-court suit. That is not proof the case is over — only that nothing public shows a payout.
Who Was Covered
Breach settlement: everyone in the U.S. whose information was compromised in the incident on or about November 29, 2023, including everyone Geisinger sent a notice to. The judge set the class at 1,308,363 people. If you filed a claim by March 18, 2026, you are in line for payment. If you did not, the deadline cannot be reopened, and if you did nothing you are still bound by the release.
Tracking: no class has been certified. If you are wondering whether your own visits were tracked, think about what you did: searched conditions or doctors on geisinger.org, booked visits, or used MyGeisinger to message, check results or pay bills, and when you last did it. Our form on this page asks exactly those three things, so we can match you to a case if one opens.
What the Settlements Pay
Tracking: nothing is payable. For comparison only, Wellstar’s MyChart pixel case settled for $4.25 million covering about 870,000 people — see our Wellstar report and the MyChart claim form guide. To size a hypothetical claim, use the MyChart settlement calculator or the data breach settlement calculator.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 111,990 other personal injury casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 3.6% of them filed as class actions:
- 39.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 13.8% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 39.9% and 53.7%.
- 5.7% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 106 reached a trial (0.9%), after a median of 23.9 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 9 months.
- Only 771 of them (0.7%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $500,000.

Three Things to Watch For
A closed settlement, a famous name and a patient portal make an easy script for imposters:
“Late Geisinger claim” offers
The claim deadline was March 18, 2026. Nobody can file a breach claim for you now, for a fee or otherwise. Real payment questions go to Kroll through GeisingerDataSettlement.com or (833) 420-3818.
Fake MyGeisinger login emails
A message saying your settlement payment is waiting in MyGeisinger, with a sign-in link, is a phishing pattern. Kroll pays through the settlement process, not your patient portal. Type geisinger.org yourself instead of clicking.
“Join the Geisinger pixel settlement”
We found no tracking settlement against Geisinger. A site asking for your MyGeisinger password, Social Security number or a fee to “secure your share” is collecting data, not filing anything.
Geisinger Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a Geisinger MyChart lawsuit?
Not about the portal itself, as far as we could find as of October 6, 2026. The 2023 tracking suit targeted Geisinger’s public website. Geisinger said in 2022 that the tracking tool was not used on MyGeisinger or direct scheduling pages.
What is MyGeisinger?
It is Geisinger’s patient portal. It runs on Epic’s MyChart app, which is why many patients search for “Geisinger MyChart.”
Is there a Geisinger tracking settlement or claim form?
No. We found no settlement, fund, administrator, claim form or deadline for website or portal tracking. If one is approved, class members are notified by a court-appointed administrator.
What was the Geisinger data breach settlement?
A $5 million settlement with Geisinger and Nuance over the November 2023 insider breach, case No. 4:24-cv-01071. It received final approval on March 16, 2026. Neither company admitted wrongdoing.
Can I still file a Geisinger data breach claim?
No. The deadline was March 18, 2026. If you filed in time, keep your claim ID. Kroll will contact you about payment.
When will Geisinger breach payments arrive?
Class counsel said people with valid claims may expect payment in 2026. As of October 6, 2026, we could not confirm that payments had been sent. Check GeisingerDataSettlement.com for updates.
Was my Social Security number exposed?
Geisinger has said Social Security numbers and financial details were not accessed. A lawsuit filing listed names, birthdates, addresses, medical record numbers and similar fields. Your own notice letter says what applied to you.
I worked at Geisinger. Is there a settlement for employees?
Yes, a separate one. The no-poach antitrust case settled for $28.5 million, and Judge Brann approved paying $16.4 million to 11,252 eligible workers, with a $250 minimum. It has nothing to do with patient data.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
