What the Lawsuit Says FCA Did Wrong
California's emissions rules give “high-priced” emissions-related parts a warranty of 7 years or 70,000 miles. The lawsuit alleges FCA US did not treat three valve-train parts — the valve rocker arm, valve stem oil seal and valve tappet — as covered parts, and charged owners for repairs instead.
The named plaintiff owns a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. According to the court's summary, a dealer found a cylinder 3 misfire tied to the valve train on November 17, 2021, said the repair would not be covered, and she paid a $210 diagnostic fee. FCA US has not admitted wrongdoing; the court has not decided who would have won.
Case details
Regueiro v. FCA US LLC, Case No. 2:22-cv-05521, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, before Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett. The case was filed August 5, 2022. The settlement administrator is Kroll Settlement Administration. The official site is FCAwarrantysettlement.com, phone (833) 930-0207; the docket is on CourtListener.
Two other FCA cases surface in the same searches and are not this one. Featherstone v. FCA US, No. 2:23-cv-10362 (E.D. Mich.), is a $3.8 million overtime settlement for hourly employees, not car owners. And CarComplaints.com reported on September 1, 2026 that Williams v. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, a separate warranty-extension suit in Michigan, was dismissed by Judge Brandy R. McMillion for lack of standing.
Status: Claims Closed, Final Approval Pending
Getting here took three tries: the judge refused preliminary approval in September 2025, because she could not bind out-of-state owners to a California-law deal, and again on March 3, 2026. Until the judge rules, nothing is final and nothing is paid. Our earlier report is here.
Who Is in the Class
People who, according to FCA US's records, bought or leased a vehicle with the 3.6L engine in California or in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington (the “Reg. 177” states):
Ram 1500, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Challenger, Charger and Durango, Chrysler 300, Chrysler Town & Country or Dodge Grand Caravan, and Ram Promaster (model years 2015–2020); Dodge Journey (2015–2019); Chrysler 200 (2015–2017).
The parties estimate more than 800,000 owners across 12 models. Vehicles previously declared a total loss are excluded. If you bought the car anywhere else, you are not in this class.
What the Settlement Actually Gives You
1. Warranty extension. If the settlement is approved, FCA US covers parts and labor to replace a failed valve rocker arm, valve stem oil seal or valve tappet for the earlier of seven years from the in-service date or 70,000 miles, at an authorized dealer, with no charge. It is automatic and passes to later buyers. Be realistic: the clock runs from the in-service date, so most 2015–2019 vehicles are already past seven years. The extension mainly matters for late-model, low-mileage cars.
2. Reimbursement of past paid diagnosis or repair of those parts — only for people who filed a claim with proof of payment by October 12, 2026. No reimbursement is issued until final approval and any appeals are resolved. Attorneys' fees of up to $1,005,000 and a $7,500 service award are paid separately and do not reduce class benefits.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 129,730 other contract casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2026, 6% of them filed as class actions:
- 30.7% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 20.2% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 30.7% and 50.9%.
- 7.5% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 72 reached a trial (1.4%), after a median of 29.3 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 7.6 months.
- Only 7,691 of them (5.9%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $407,000.

June 29, 2026 — Preliminary Approval
Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett preliminarily approves the revised settlement and sets the final approval hearing.
October 12, 2026 — Claims Close
The deadline passes for reimbursement claims, opt-outs and objections. The warranty extension still needs no form.
October 28, 2026 — Final Approval Hearing
Set for 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 5C, Los Angeles. Reimbursements can only follow final approval and any appeals.
Three Things to Watch For
With the deadline just passed and a ruling pending, these are the traps to expect:
“Late claim” or “claim recovery” services
The claim window closed October 12, 2026. Nobody can file for you now for a fee. Questions about a claim you already filed go to Kroll or the official line, (833) 930-0207.
Paid “warranty activation” calls
The extension is automatic and free at an authorized FCA US dealer. A caller selling an extended warranty while citing this settlement is selling something else entirely.
Wrong-case “FCA settlement” payouts
The Featherstone overtime settlement is for FCA employees, not vehicle owners. A message mixing the two to ask for your bank details or Social Security number is a red flag.
FCA Warranty Settlement — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
What is the latest update on the Chrysler class action lawsuit?
For the valve-train warranty case, Regueiro v. FCA US LLC: as of October 14, 2026 claims are closed (deadline October 12, 2026) and the final approval hearing is set for October 28, 2026. Nothing is paid before final approval and any appeals.
What is the FCA warranty in this settlement?
It is an extension of FCA US's warranty to cover a failed valve rocker arm, valve stem oil seal or valve tappet for seven years from the in-service date or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first. It mirrors the 7-year/70,000-mile term California sets for high-priced emissions parts.
Can I still file a claim?
No. Claims had to be submitted online by 11:59 PM PT on October 12, 2026, or postmarked by that date. The opt-out and objection deadlines were the same day.
Do I need to do anything to get the warranty extension?
No. If the settlement is approved, class members get it automatically, and it stays with the vehicle when sold. Repairs must be done at an authorized FCA US dealership within the seven-year/70,000-mile window.
How much money will I get?
There is no per-person payment. Only people who filed a claim are reimbursed for what they actually paid to diagnose or repair the three covered parts, backed by an invoice or receipt. No total has been published.
I live outside California. Am I covered?
Only if you bought or leased the vehicle in California or in one of the ten Reg. 177 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington.
Is the Featherstone FCA settlement the same thing?
No. Featherstone v. FCA US, No. 2:23-cv-10362 in the Eastern District of Michigan, is a $3.8 million overtime settlement for hourly employees who worked for FCA US between February 10, 2020 and May 12, 2025. Its exclusion deadline was June 22, 2026 and its final hearing was scheduled for August 25, 2026. Questions go to its administrator, Atticus Administration.
Is the notice I got real?
The genuine notice says it is court-authorized and not a lawyer's solicitation, names Regueiro v. FCA US LLC, Case No. 2:22-cv-05521, and points to FCAwarrantysettlement.com and (833) 930-0207.
