As of September 30, 2026, only one Anthropic case has money in it: the $1.5 billion authors' settlement in Bartz v. Anthropic. Claims closed on March 30, 2026. The first payments are expected on or before November 15, 2026 — about $2,203.56 per claimed book in this first round, before any author/publisher split. Every other Anthropic lawsuit — the music publishers' lyrics and piracy suits, Reddit's scraping suit, authors who opted out, and an antitrust class action filed September 18, 2026 on behalf of paid Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Gemini subscribers — has no settlement, no fund and no claim form.

The Anthropic Lawsuits, One by One
Authors: the Anthropic settlement. In Bartz v. Anthropic, book authors sued over books Anthropic downloaded from two pirate-library datasets, LibGen and PiLiMi; the settlement class covers authors and publishers alike. The class is limited to “the legal or beneficial owners of works in the LibGen or PiLiMi datasets that Anthropic downloaded,” according to the settlement website. The settlement also requires Anthropic to destroy those downloaded books, and Anthropic represented that the datasets were not in the training corpus of any of its commercially released models. Music publishers: lyrics and piracy. Publishers including Concord, ABKCO and Universal Music companies claim Anthropic used “unauthorized copies of copyrighted lyrics to train Claude” and distributed lyrics without their copyright management information. A second suit by the same publishers, filed January 28, 2026, targets how Anthropic got the material; TechCrunch reported it seeks $3 billion over the alleged piracy of 20,000 works. BMG sued in March 2026, Round Hill Music on August 17, 2026, and Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell on August 28, 2026 — the last alleging a “brazen campaign of illegally torrenting, scraping, and downloading copyrighted works.” Anthropic's response to that suit: “We disagree with the publishers' claims and we intend to defend ourselves robustly in court.”
Reddit. Reddit sued on June 4, 2025 over Anthropic's alleged scraping of Reddit content for AI training. It pleads breach of contract, unjust enrichment, trespass to chattels, tortious interference with contract and unfair competition — Reddit's own claims, not its users'.
Authors who opted out. Some authors left the Bartz class to sue on their own. One of them, Carreyrou v. Anthropic PBC, filed December 22, 2025, also names other AI developers.
Subscribers: the new antitrust suit. Buist v. Anthropic, PBC, filed September 18, 2026, claims Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Google agreed to slow how fast they improve their AI products. It points to a September 12, 2026 essay by Anthropic's chief executive titled “We Must Pace the Frontier” and to public responses from rival executives, and argues that paid subscribers now get less for the same price. These are allegations; no court has ruled on them.
Anthropic as the plaintiff. In Anthropic PBC v. U.S. Department of War, Anthropic challenged a Pentagon supply-chain designation against it. It is a dispute with the government, not a consumer case.

Where Each Anthropic Case Stands (September 30, 2026)
Music publishers — pending, no ruling on liability. In the first lyrics case, summary-judgment and expert (Daubert) motions were being briefed in September 2026. In the second, the defendants filed their reply briefs on partial motions to dismiss on September 14, 2026, and on September 21, 2026 Judge Lee approved a coordinated schedule with the BMG case. The Sony/Warner and Round Hill suits are at an early stage, with lawyers still entering the cases in September 2026.
Reddit — back in state court since the remand order entered March 30, 2026, which held that Reddit's claims go beyond copying its content and are not preempted by federal copyright law.
Opt-out authors — pending. Anthropic filed a consolidated motion to dismiss on September 24, 2026; the hearing is set for December 17, 2026.
Antitrust — filed September 18, 2026. Anthropic was served on September 24, 2026, and its response is due October 15, 2026. The first case management conference is set for December 23, 2026.
Department of War — Anthropic won in the trial court. On August 27, 2026, Judge Lin declared the challenged government actions unlawful retaliation under the First Amendment and vacated the supply-chain designation.

Do You Get Anything? It Depends Who You Are
You own rights in a book on the Works List and filed a claim by March 30, 2026: you are in line for the November payment. Log in with the Claim Number and PIN from your notice, check the percentage split for each book, and keep your payment details current.
You own rights in a listed book but never filed: the claim, opt-out and objection deadlines have all passed. Class counsel said on September 2, 2026 that it would put a small number of late-claim requests to the judge; that is a request, not a reopening, and there is no open claim form.
You pay for Claude Pro or Claude Max: the Buist complaint proposes a nationwide class of everyone in the United States who, from September 12, 2026, bought directly from one or more of the defendants “a paid individual consumer subscription providing premium access to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Gemini,” with a separate subclass for Claude subscribers. If that describes you, you are inside the proposed definition without signing up. Nothing is certified and nothing is payable.
You use Claude for free, post on Reddit, or write songs: none of these cases is a class action with a claim form for you. Reddit's suit is about Reddit's own contract claims, and the music suits are brought by publishers in their own names.

What the Anthropic Settlement Actually Pays
The money is per book, not per person. Where an author and a publisher both filed valid claims, the default split is 50/50 — about $1,101.78 each in the first round. The full breakdown is in our first-payment report.
Every other Anthropic lawsuit: no settlement, no fund, no claim form as of September 30, 2026. The antitrust complaint asks for damages “in an amount to be established at trial, trebled” — a demand, not an award. Three Anthropic Settlement Traps
A large payout about to go out, plus a stream of new lawsuits, is exactly where imposters show up:
“Your allocation needs verification” emails
Real notices come from the administrator with a Claim Number and PIN and lead to the portal linked from anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com. The settlement pays by Zelle, ACH direct deposit or check — nobody legitimate needs your bank password or a processing fee. “We can still get you into the Anthropic settlement”
The claim deadline was March 30, 2026. Class counsel said it would put a small number of late-claim requests to the judge; no third party can sell you a place, and a fee to “file late” buys nothing.
“Claude subscriber” or “Reddit user” payout sign-ups
The antitrust case filed September 18, 2026 has no settlement and no claim form, and paid subscribers fall inside its proposed class without registering. Reddit's case is Reddit's own. A site asking for your card number or account login to “claim your share” is collecting data, not filing anything.

Is there an Anthropic settlement, and can I still file a claim?
There is one: the $1.5 billion authors' settlement in Bartz v. Anthropic, for owners of books in the LibGen and PiLiMi datasets Anthropic downloaded. The claim deadline was March 30, 2026, and it has passed. No other Anthropic lawsuit has a settlement.
When will Anthropic settlement payments be sent?
As of September 30, 2026, the first round is expected on or before November 15, 2026, for books where all claimants agree on the split and have given complete payment information. Disputed books are held back and paid in a later distribution.
How much does the Anthropic settlement pay per book?
About $2,203.56 per claimed work in the first round, according to class counsel's September 2, 2026 status report. That is shared among the rightsholders: at the default 50/50 author/publisher split it is about $1,101.78 each. The court estimated roughly $3,000 per work for the full fund, which includes a final $450 million instalment still to come.
My notice says I have 30 days to dispute the split. Is that still true?
No. On September 15, 2026 the court approved a website update extending that window to 60 days from when you get access to the consolidated claim information. The settlement website says the 60 days is not a deadline by which every disagreement must be resolved.
What is the new Anthropic lawsuit about slowing down AI?
Buist v. Anthropic, PBC, filed September 18, 2026 in the Northern District of California, alleges that Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Google agreed to pace AI development in violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Act. It seeks treble damages and an injunction for paid subscribers. Anthropic's response is due October 15, 2026.
I use Claude. Am I part of any Anthropic lawsuit?
Only if you pay for a Claude subscription: the Buist complaint proposes a class of people in the United States who, from September 12, 2026, bought a paid individual subscription directly from one of the defendants, with a Claude subclass. Free users are outside that definition. The copyright and Reddit cases are not brought on behalf of Claude users.
Do the music publisher lawsuits pay songwriters or fans?
There is no claim process. Those suits are brought by publishers — Concord, ABKCO, Universal Music companies, BMG, Round Hill, Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell among them — in their own names, and any damages would go to the publishers who sued.
Did authors who opted out of the settlement sue on their own?
Yes. Some filed their own cases, including Carreyrou v. Anthropic PBC, filed December 22, 2025. Anthropic moved to dismiss them on September 24, 2026, with a hearing set for December 17, 2026. Opting out kept their right to sue Anthropic separately, at the cost of any settlement payment for those books.
