As of October 12, 2026, no payment date has been announced for the Canadian Abilify settlement. The claim deadline was November 12, 2025, and the court-appointed administrator, MNP Ltd., is reviewing claims. Under the settlement agreement, cheques go out only after every claim and every challenge is finally decided. The 2019 U.S. settlement is a different deal, and its fund has closed. This page covers payment only; for the case itself see our Abilify lawsuit page.

Which Abilify Settlement Is Paying
Two settlements are behind most “abilify settlement payment” searches, and only one still has money to pay out.
Canada (pending payment): a CDN $14,750,000 national class settlement approved by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on December 23, 2024 and the Superior Court of Quebec on February 7, 2025. MNP Ltd. administers it. Only people who filed a claim by November 12, 2025 can be paid.
United States (closed): a Confidential Master Settlement Agreement dated February 15, 2019. It was a private settlement of filed lawsuits, not a class settlement, and it was paid through each plaintiff’s own lawyer. The court entered an order closing its settlement fund on December 20, 2021.
Case Details
The Canadian approval decision is Kirsch v. Bristol Myers Squibb, 2024 ONSC 7191, by Justice Edward Morgan. The Ontario action is Court File No. CV-16-553833-00CP, with a parallel Quebec class action. The U.S. cases were consolidated as In re: Abilify (Aripiprazole) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2734, No. 3:16-md-02734, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida before Judge M. Casey Rodgers. On February 21, 2019 that court set up the MDL 2734 Qualified Settlement Fund and appointed BrownGreer PLC to review claims (Order 1131). New Jersey cases were part of the same deal as MCL No. 626.
Abilify Settlement Status Canada: What Has to Happen Before Payment
1. You get an Acknowledgement Letter confirming MNP received your claim package.
2. If something is missing, MNP sends a Deficiency Letter, and you have 30 days to fix it.
3. You get a Claim Determination Letter stating your category (Mild, Moderate or Severe psychological harm, plus any financial-loss or family claim) and an estimated amount.
4. If you disagree, you can file a Notice of Challenge, which goes to an independent Referee.
5. Within 90 days after all claims are finally decided, including all challenges, MNP mails a Final Claim Determination Letter with your cheque enclosed.
So the payment depends on the last open challenge, not on your own claim. To check your abilify settlement status, contact MNP Ltd. at abilifysettlement@mnp.ca or toll-free 1 (855) 653-0027, or use the official settlement page.
Who Gets Paid — and Who Does Not
No one is paid automatically. In Canada, only class members who submitted a claim form by November 12, 2025 and are approved by MNP receive money. The notice says a claim not filed by that deadline “will be extinguished.” Records for generic aripiprazole alone were not enough; the settlement covers branded Abilify and Abilify Maintena only.
Bristol Myers Squibb and Otsuka do not decide who qualifies. The approval notice says the defendants “have no role” in eligibility or in how the money is allocated.
In the U.S., the 2019 private settlement was limited to Abilify compulsivity lawsuits already filed by January 28, 2019. BMS reported in its 2022 annual report that about 2,700 cases, with about 3,900 plaintiffs, had been dismissed through the program or for not following settlement orders. There is no U.S. claim form to file now.
How Much Each Person Gets: Estimates, Not Payments
• Psychological harm, Mild (720 people, 80%): about $3,246.53 each
• Moderate (144 people, 16%): about $14,756.94 each
• Severe (36 people, 4%): about $42,500 each
• Catastrophic injury add-on (5 of 900): a further $42,500
• Documented financial losses: $1,700,000 pool
• Family members of Moderate and Severe claimants: $595,000 pool
Every figure moves pro rata. If fewer people qualify, payments go up; if more qualify, they go down. Out of the CDN $14,750,000 total, the courts approved $5,350,697 in class counsel fees, plus disbursements and taxes, and $368,750 for provincial public health insurers.
U.S. amounts were never made public. The payment grid was filed with the court in camera, so any per-person “average” you see online is an estimate.

Is That Abilify Payment Letter Real?
A real Canadian payment comes from one place, in one form. Anything else deserves a second look:
Requests for a fee to “release” your cheque
Under the agreement, the cheque comes enclosed with MNP’s Final Claim Determination Letter. No court-approved step asks you to pay a processing or release fee first. Real email comes from an @mnp.ca address.
“Late claims still accepted” offers
The Canadian claim deadline was November 12, 2025, and late claims are extinguished. A site or caller promising to file a new Abilify claim for you now is selling something the settlement does not offer.
“U.S. Abilify settlement payment” notices
The U.S. deal was a private settlement of filed lawsuits, paid through plaintiffs’ own lawyers, and its fund closed in December 2021. An unsolicited message saying you are owed a U.S. Abilify class payment does not match any open program.
Abilify Settlement Payment — Questions People Ask
What is the Abilify settlement status?
As of October 12, 2026, the Canadian settlement is closed to new claims (deadline November 12, 2025), and MNP Ltd. is reviewing claims. No payment date has been announced. The U.S. settlement from 2019 was a private settlement of filed lawsuits, and the court entered an order closing its settlement fund in December 2021.
When to expect an Abilify settlement payment?
The agreement says cheques are mailed within 90 days after all claims are finally decided, including challenges heard by the Referee. No date has been published for when that review will end, so nobody can give an honest calendar date yet. Ask MNP at abilifysettlement@mnp.ca or 1 (855) 653-0027.
What is the Abilify settlement status in Canada for my claim?
Look at the letters MNP has sent you. An Acknowledgement Letter means your claim was received. A Deficiency Letter gives you 30 days to fix a problem. A Claim Determination Letter states your category and an estimated amount. The final letter comes with the cheque.
What is the average payout per person?
No Canadian payment has been made, so there is no actual average. The grid estimates about $3,246.53 for Mild, $14,756.94 for Moderate and $42,500 for Severe psychological harm, based on 900 approved claimants. All amounts adjust pro rata. U.S. amounts are confidential.
How will the Abilify settlement payment be made?
By cheque. The settlement agreement says MNP will send a Final Claim Determination Letter that states your final amount and encloses a cheque. The agreement does not provide for PayPal, Zelle or prepaid cards.
What happens to uncashed Abilify cheques?
If money is left in the account six months after payments are issued, including from uncashed cheques, it does not go back to the defendants. A share tied to Quebec residents (22.98% of the surplus is attributed to them) goes to Quebec’s class action assistance fund, and the rest goes to a court-approved mental-health charity. Cash your cheque promptly, and ask MNP about a replacement if it is lost.
Can I still file a claim?
Not in the Canadian settlement. The deadline was November 12, 2025. In the U.S., there was never a public claim form; the 2019 program covered filed lawsuits only. Whether someone can still bring an individual lawsuit is a question for a licensed lawyer in their jurisdiction.
Is the $19.5 million Abilify settlement paying consumers?
No. On December 8, 2016, BMS agreed to pay $19.5 million to the District of Columbia and 42 states over how Abilify was marketed. That money went to the states, along with changes to marketing practices. It is not a consumer claims fund and has nothing to do with the compulsivity settlements.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
