As of October 6, 2026, we found no UNC Health lawsuit over Meta Pixel or other tracking on its websites or My UNC Chart. UNC Health did run Meta Pixels on its public website until June 2022. The only class action we found is a vendor breach: Signature Performance exposed data of 106,540 UNC Health Southeastern patients. That case settled for $8.5 million, and the claim deadline of May 7, 2026 has passed.

What Was Reported About UNC Health and Meta
The Markup published its hospital-pixel report on June 16, 2022. Internal emails later obtained by WRAL show what happened next at UNC Health. An IT manager wrote that he was not finding pixels on UNC’s MyChart page, but that UNChealthcare.org “lights up like a Christmas tree with them.” UNC Health paused the pixels about 12 hours after the report.
UNC Health says the pixels never touched authenticated data — test results, messages to doctors and appointment records in the portal. The emails say the public site could have passed along what people searched for, including patient resources and the find-a-doctor tool. On January 10, 2024 UNC Health told WRAL: “UNC Health is not involved in any lawsuits related to Meta Pixel.” We found nothing filed since. UNC Health’s portal is called My UNC Chart; it runs on MyChart.
Case Details
Tracking: no case, no court, no docket number. That is not a finding that no data went to Meta — only that no one has sued over it that we could find.
Vendor breach: Coit v. Signature Performance, Inc. et al., No. 8:24-cv-00252, filed June 25, 2024 in federal court in Nebraska, named Southeastern Regional Medical Center (UNC Health Southeastern) as a defendant. It was consolidated with six other cases on July 25, 2024. The settlement is Curtis McClean, et al. v. Signature Performance, Inc., No. STK-CV-UBT-0016713, in the Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin, before Judge Robert T. Waters. Signature denies wrongdoing.
Status: No Tracking Case; Breach Settlement Closed to Claims
The UNC Health data breach settlement is closed to new claims. Preliminary approval came on January 6, 2026. The opt-out and objection deadline was April 7, 2026, the final approval hearing was set for April 21, 2026, and the claim deadline was May 7, 2026. As of October 6, 2026 we could not confirm from the official site whether final approval was granted or when payments go out. If you filed a claim, the administrator, Verita, is your source.
Who Could Have a Claim
Tracking: nobody, because no case exists. If you used the public UNC Health website before June 2022 — searched for a condition, used find-a-doctor, booked a visit — that is the activity other hospital pixel cases were built on. Our MyChart claim-form page asks whether you used the website or MyChart, what you did there and when you last did. That helps you check other hospitals you used.
Signature breach: the class was people notified by Signature, Adventist Health or UNC Health Southeastern about the January 2024 incident — about 232,315 people. The letter is the proof. If you got one but missed May 7, 2026, the window is closed.
What These Cases Pay
Signature breach: the $8.5 million fund offered documented losses up to $5,000, a no-receipt payment estimated at $200, a further $200 estimate for California residents, and three years of medical data monitoring. Cash amounts move up or down pro rata. Compare with our data breach settlement calculator.

Three Things to Watch For
Two real hospital settlements nearby and one closed UNC-linked deal make easy cover for fakes:
“UNC Health MyChart settlement” claim pages
There is no UNC Health tracking settlement. A site asking for your My UNC Chart login or Social Security number to “claim your share” is phishing.
Novant or Duke notices aimed at UNC patients
Those settlements cover Novant and Duke patients only. A message telling a UNC patient to file in them, or to pay a fee first, is not from an administrator.
“Late claims accepted” for Signature
The Signature deadline was May 7, 2026. Anyone offering a paid late filing is not Verita. Check only on signaturedatabreachsettlement.com or at 1-888-822-4801.
UNC Health Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a UNC Health MyChart lawsuit?
No. As of October 6, 2026 we found no UNC Health MyChart lawsuit and no case over tracking on its websites. UNC Health said in January 2024 it was not involved in any Meta Pixel lawsuits.
Did UNC Health use the Meta Pixel?
Yes, on its public website, until it paused the pixels about 12 hours after The Markup’s June 16, 2022 report. UNC Health says no authenticated portal data was involved.
What is the UNC Health data breach lawsuit?
The UNC Health data breach case involved vendor Signature Performance, hacked January 17–18, 2024. It exposed data of 106,540 UNC Health Southeastern patients and settled for $8.5 million.
Can I still file a Signature Performance claim?
No. The claim deadline was May 7, 2026. If you filed, payments come only after final approval and any appeals, which the official site says can take more than a year.
What is My UNC Chart?
It is UNC Health’s patient portal, built on MyChart. Results, messages and appointments sit behind the login — the area UNC Health says pixels never reached.
Is there any UNC Health lawsuit I can join now?
Not that we found as of October 6, 2026. You never join a class action by signing up; a court-appointed administrator would notify class members directly.
How did similar North Carolina cases turn out?
Novant Health settled for $6.6 million. Duke agreed to $3.74 million, with a claim deadline that passed on Aug. 16, 2026. WakeMed was sued over a pixel on its site and portal.
What can I do now?
Keep any breach letter. Review insurer statements for care you never got. If you used other hospitals’ sites or portals, check them on our MyChart claim-form page.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
