Why People Are Searching: Zillow Paid Redfin to Leave Rentals
On February 6, 2025, Zillow and Redfin signed a rental-listings partnership. According to the FTC, Zillow paid Redfin $100 million for Redfin to shut down its internet listing services (ILS) business for apartment buildings, repost Zillow's apartment listings, move its advertising customers to Zillow and stay out of that market for up to nine years. At the time Redfin owned Rent.com and ApartmentGuide.com; Zillow owns Zillow Rentals, Trulia and HotPads.
The FTC sued on September 30, 2025, and Virginia, Arizona, Connecticut, New York and Washington filed a similar suit on October 1, 2025. 3. Privacy class action. Gallardo v. Redfin Corporation, No. 8:26-cv-00983, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division.

Three Traps Around the Redfin Headlines

“Submit your Redfin breach claim” forms
As soon as the breach notice surfaced, lead sites were inviting people to “submit a claim.” There is no Redfin breach settlement; those forms pass your details to a law firm. Talking to a lawyer can be a real choice, but it is a retainer inquiry, not a claim — and you should not need to hand over your Social Security number to start one.
Calls or texts about your IDX code
Your enrollment code and the enrollment link are printed in your own letter. Anyone who contacts you first to “activate” protection, or asks for your code, full Social Security number or bank login, is not part of Redfin's notice. Use only the page or QR code in the letter itself.
Fees to “release” a commission check
With the appeal decided, seller payouts are the next headline.
