What Happened at NSE Insurance Agencies
NSE Insurance Agencies Inc. is an independent insurance agency based in Exeter and Tulare, California. It sells car, home and business coverage, including Nationwide products.
According to its own notice, the agency observed unauthorized access to its network on or about November 28, 2025. Its investigation determined on August 24, 2026 that files containing personal information may have been accessed and taken between November 6 and November 29, 2025.
The files may include full names plus one or more of: Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state ID numbers, other government ID numbers, financial account information, credit or debit card information, medical information and health insurance policy information. Not every item applies to every person.
On December 11, 2025, a ransomware group posted a claim on a dark web forum that it had obtained 500 GB of data from the agency. That is the group’s claim; NSE’s notice does not mention it. NSE says it has no evidence that anyone’s information has been misused.
Case details
No court case found. As of October 16, 2026, a CourtListener search of federal dockets for “NSE Insurance” returned a single unrelated 2017 Texas flood-insurance case, and our feed of new federal filings shows no case naming NSE Insurance Agencies. State court in California was not searched, and a suit could still be filed.
What does exist: law firms advertising that they are “investigating” whether a class action can be filed. An investigation is a recruitment step, not a lawsuit. News reports about an “insurance brokerage” breach suit in Nebraska (No. 8:24-cv-00390) concern a different company, Insurance Agency Marketing Services.
Status: Breach Notices Sent, No Lawsuit, No Settlement
There is no settlement, no fund, no administrator, no claim form and no deadline. The only thing on offer is the free Equifax Credit Watch Gold membership in the letter itself. NSE has not said how many people were affected.
Who Is Affected
NSE mailed letters to everyone it believes was potentially affected, where it had a last known home address. The people whose files an insurance agency holds are mostly its policyholders and applicants — the agency serves personal and business clients in central California, though letters went to other states too.
The practical test is your mail. If you got a letter from NSE Insurance Agencies, keep it and the envelope: it says which data was involved and contains your Equifax activation code. Unsure? NSE’s notice lists a toll-free line, 855-815-3925, Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm Eastern.
Is There Any Money?
What you can use today is the free Equifax credit monitoring in your letter. If a lawsuit is later filed and settles, data breach settlements have typically paid documented out-of-pocket losses plus a smaller flat amount — see our data breach settlement calculator for comparable cases, not a prediction for this one.

Three Things to Watch For
A breach that exposed card, bank and insurance details, with no settlement yet, invites these:
“Claim your NSE settlement” pages
There is no NSE settlement and no claims site. A page asking for your Social Security number or bank details to “secure your payment” is collecting data, not filing a claim.
Calls posing as your insurance agent
The stolen files are policy records, so a caller can quote your policy or agent to sound real. Hang up and call NSE back on the number from your own policy documents or the 855-815-3925 line in the notice.
Look-alike credit monitoring sign-ups
The real offer is Equifax Credit Watch Gold, activated with the code printed in your letter. It is free. Anyone charging a fee or asking for card details to “activate” it is not Equifax.
NSE Settlement — Questions People Actually Ask
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this case.
Is there an NSE Insurance Agencies data breach settlement?
No. As of October 16, 2026 there is no settlement, no fund, no claim form and no deadline. We found no filed lawsuit either — only law firms saying they are investigating.
Is the NSE Insurance Agencies breach letter real?
NSE Insurance Agencies mailed breach notices starting on or about September 21, 2026, and posted the same notice on its website. You can verify by calling the toll-free line in the notice, 855-815-3925. A real letter never asks you to pay anything.
What data was exposed?
Full names plus, depending on the person, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state ID numbers, other government ID numbers, financial account and card information, medical information and health insurance policy information. Your letter says which applied to you.
How many people were affected?
NSE has not disclosed a number. It reported the breach to Massachusetts regulators on September 25, 2026, which means at least some affected people live outside California.
Why did the letter take ten months?
NSE spotted the intrusion on November 28, 2025, but says its investigation only determined on August 24, 2026 that personal information may have been taken. Letters followed from September 21, 2026. Delay like this is often a central complaint in breach lawsuits.
What is settlement in NSE?
That question is about India’s National Stock Exchange, not this breach. There, “settlement” means delivering shares and money after a trade; all stocks have settled on a T+1 cycle (the next working day) since 27 January 2023. This page cannot help with Indian trade settlements — check the NSE or your broker.
Do I need to sign up to be included in a future case?
No. If a class action is filed and certified or settled, a court-appointed administrator notifies class members directly. Signing up with a law firm is a retainer decision, not registration.
What should I do right now?
Activate the free Equifax monitoring with the code in your letter, freeze your credit at all three bureaus, watch card and bank statements, and read insurer statements for care you never received. Keep the letter.
