OCTROT Heated Blanket Recall: 555 Reports, 27 Fires — and the Refund Requires You to Cut the Cord

OCTROT is recalling about 178,000 electric sherpa throws and blankets. The recall was filed with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on July 30, 2026 under recall number 26-652.

They were sold exclusively on Amazon.com between August 2021 and December 2025 for $40 to $60, in five colour combinations and five sizes. The model numbers — OCT-5060, OCT-5062, OCT-6248, OCT-7284 and OCT-8490 — are printed on the packaging along with the OCTROT brand name.

If you threw the packaging away, the giveaway is the white controller with five temperature settings.

The cord has two or four small holes where it meets the controller. At that point the cord can detach and ignite.

The incident numbers are not marginal: OCTROT has received 555 reports of the throws melting, sparking or smoking. Those produced 27 fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries. Set against 178,000 units, that is roughly one reported incident for every 320 sold — an order of magnitude above what most consumer recalls carry, and the product is one people fall asleep under.

The refund is conditional on destroying the product, and the order of steps matters:

1. Stop using the blanket and unplug it. 2. Cut the electrical cord in half. 3. Email a photo showing the cut cord to OctrotRecall@gmail.com. 4. Dispose of the destroyed blanket once the photo has been sent.

OCTROT confirms a full refund once the photo is received and verified. If you bin the blanket before photographing the cut cord, you have no way to prove the claim. The company can also be reached at 800-928-1807, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday.

No publicly reported legal action against OCTROT over this recall at the time of writing.

Anyone whose blanket actually caused a fire is in a different position from the general purchaser: property damage and burn injuries are ordinary personal injury and product liability claims, and they do not depend on a class action existing.
