The AT&T Settlement Hearing Was 217 Days Ago and There Is Still No Ruling. Three Days Ago the Court Docketed an “Order Reassigning Case” — and the Administrator’s Own Status Note Hasn’t Changed Since April 23.

Searches for an AT&T settlement payout spiked again this week, so we checked the only source that counts. The official Kroll-run settlement site, read today, still carries an update dated April 23, 2026 saying the court “continues to consider” whether to approve. The final approval hearing was held January 15. The claim window closed on December 18, 2025 — you can no longer file. And the newest entry on the MDL master docket, dated August 17, is titled “Order Reassigning Case.”

By Settlement Insight Data Desk · August 20, 2026

217 days of silence — and a status note from April

Every few weeks, searches for an AT&T settlement payout date jump. They jumped again this week. So we read the one page that is actually authoritative: telecomdatasettlement.com, the court-approved site run by Kroll Settlement Administration.

Its status banner, read on August 20, is dated April 23, 2026. It says the Final Approval Hearing was held on January 15, 2026, that the administrator is processing claims, and that “the Court continues to consider whether it will approve the Settlement. We do not know how long it will take for the Court to make its decision.”

That is the whole update. The hearing was 217 days ago. The last time the administrator changed the status text was 119 days ago. Nothing on the site promises a date, because there is no date to promise.

The docket agrees. The court reporter filed the official transcript of the January 15 proceedings on February 18, 2026 — 171 pages. Since then the master docket in In re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 3:24-md-03114-E (N.D. Tex.), shows housekeeping and one live dispute: on June 22, 2026 AT&T filed additional opt-out briefing attached to a fifth supplemental declaration from Kroll. Five supplemental declarations about who opted out is not the profile of a case about to cut checks.

August 17: an order reassigning the case — and what we could not verify

The newest entry on the master docket is entry 84, filed August 17, 2026. Its title is “Order Reassigning Case.” It is the first entry since July 8.

Here is the honest limit of what we can tell you. The order itself is not available in the free RECAP archive — no PDF has been purchased and uploaded — so we have not read it. We do not know what was reassigned, or to whom. CourtListener’s docket header still lists Judge Ada Elene Brown as the assigned judge, but that field lags the entries beneath it, so it does not settle the question either.

We are reporting the entry because it is real, it is three days old, and it is the only thing that has moved in six weeks on a case that has kept 217 days of silence. We are not reporting that the MDL has a new judge, because we cannot show you that. If you see that claim elsewhere this week, ask where the order is.

What the entry does not do is change anything you can act on. There is still no approval order, no payout date, and no way to file.

The claim window is closed — and that surprises most people who search

This is the part that catches people. The site says it plainly: “The claim filing deadline has passed, and claim forms are no longer available.”

The deadlines, from the court’s amended preliminary approval order of October 3, 2025:

  • Claim forms: submitted or postmarked by December 18, 2025 — closed
  • Opt-out and objection: postmarked by November 17, 2025 — closed
  • Final approval hearing: January 15, 2026, 9:00 a.m. CT — held

If you did not file by December 18, no ruling will pay you. And if you did file, nothing further is required of you: the administrator keeps reviewing claims while the judge decides. Any site currently offering you an AT&T “claim form” is not connected to this settlement.

The $25 million detail almost nobody reports

Coverage of this settlement leads with $177 million. Here is something that number hides, taken from the settlement’s own FAQ.

Claims are paid in a fixed order. Documented Loss Payments come out of the net funds first — up to $5,000 per person for the AT&T 1 incident and up to $2,500 for AT&T 2, or up to $7,500 for someone in both classes. Only what remains is shared out as the flat Tier payments most claimants chose — and for AT&T 1 that remainder is distributed “up to $25,000,000” on a pro rata basis.

Within that pool, Tier 1 class members — those whose Social Security number was in the AT&T 1 incident — receive five times what Tier 2 members receive. Both figures shrink as more valid claims arrive. Class counsel will separately ask for fees of up to one-third of the respective settlement funds, plus service awards of up to $1,500 per class representative.

One more thing worth knowing, because it says something about how this story gets told: the official settlement site never states a total dollar figure at all. We searched every page — the words “$177 million” do not appear on it. That number comes from the settlement agreement and press coverage, not from the administrator.

The “approval” in the headlines you remember

If you recall reading that a judge approved this settlement, you did. Judge Ada Brown signed the Preliminary Approval Order on June 20, 2025. That order certified the class for settlement purposes and set the notice schedule. It is a procedural green light to tell people about a deal — not a decision that the deal is fair.

Final approval is the separate decision, and it is the one that has not come. Even when it does, money does not move immediately. The site sets out three gates in sequence: the settlement must obtain court approval, the time for all appeals must expire, and all claim forms must be reviewed. Only then does distribution begin.

So the accurate answer to “when do AT&T settlement checks go out?” is: no one knows, including the administrator, and anyone publishing a specific date is guessing. Bookmark the official site — it is the first place a ruling will appear.
