8.2 Million Thermos Containers Recalled After Stoppers Shot Out — Three People Lost Their Sight Permanently

On April 30, 2026, three Thermos products were recalled:

• Stainless King Food Jar, 16 oz — model SK3000
• Stainless King Food Jar, 24 oz — model SK3020
• Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottle, 40 oz — model SK3010

They were sold from March 2008 through July 2024. Roughly 8.2 million units are covered — one of the larger consumer-product recalls of the year.

When perishable food or drink is stored inside, pressure can build up in the container. On opening, the stopper can be ejected forcefully — effectively launched at whoever is holding it.

Before the recall was announced, Thermos had received 27 reports of stopper ejections. Reported injuries include facial lacerations and impact injuries, and — the reason this recall is unusually serious — three reports of permanent vision loss.

Two firms, Nigh Goldenberg Raso & Vaughn PLLC and LegaFi Law LLC, are recruiting injured consumers. The criteria they publish are that a person must have:

• owned one of the three recalled models;
• used it between March 2008 and July 2024;
• stored perishable food or drink inside;
• been injured when the stopper ejected on opening;
• and live in the United States.

This is a personal-injury track, not a refund programme. A recall replacement and an injury claim are separate things — accepting a remedy for the product does not by itself resolve a claim for an injury.

There is no settlement and no class-wide compensation fund. What exists is a recall plus active attorney recruitment for individual injury claims. Anyone who still owns one of these models should stop using it regardless of whether they intend to make a claim.
