There are two different things behind a search for the CarShield lawsuit. The FTC case ended in a $10 million order in 2024, and the FTC mailed 168,179 refund checks in December 2025. The private CarShield class action lawsuit, filed in 2025, was sent to arbitration and stayed on March 6, 2026. As of October 2026 there is no class settlement, no claim form and no open deadline.

What CarShield Is Accused Of
CarShield (legal name NRRM, LLC, based in Missouri) sells vehicle service contracts — often called extended car warranties — that are designed and administered by American Auto Shield, LLC of Lakewood, Colorado. According to the FTC, the plans cost roughly $80 to $120 a month.
The FTC alleged that CarShield's ads and telemarketing suggested all repairs, or all repairs to “covered” systems, would be paid, that customers would get a free rental car, and that they could use any repair shop. In practice, the FTC said, the plans contain many exclusions and many shops do not accept them. It also alleged that celebrity endorsers such as Chris Berman and Ice-T presented themselves as customers when in many cases they were not. One ad ran 18,000 times on television.
The later lawsuit against CarShield by three customers makes a related claim: that CarShield and American Auto Shield failed to honor the contracts they sold. These are allegations; the companies settled with the FTC without a trial, and no court has ruled on the private claims.
Case Details
FTC case: Federal Trade Commission v. NRRM, LLC, No. 4:24-cv-01055, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, before Judge Henry Edward Autrey. The FTC filed the complaint and a proposed settlement order together on July 31, 2024; the docket was closed on September 17, 2024. The FTC credited the Missouri Attorney General's Office with helping bring the case.
Private class action: Lindsey-Evans v. NRRM, LLC, No. 4:25-cv-00363, same court, filed March 21, 2025 and assigned to Judge Zachary M. Bluestone. On March 6, 2026 the judge granted CarShield's motion to compel arbitration and stayed all proceedings until arbitration is completed.
Other cases: A separate suit, Jose Chavez v. NRRM, LLC, No. 5:26-cv-02894, was filed in the Central District of California on May 27, 2026; as of October 2026 motions to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction are being briefed. The public docket does not show what it claims or whether it seeks class status. An earlier robocall class suit under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Mehr v. NRRM, LLC, No. 4:16-cv-00657, was filed in 2016 and closed the same year.
Status: FTC Refunds Paid, Class Action Stayed
Class action: stayed. As of October 2026, Lindsey-Evans is paused while the named plaintiffs' claims go to individual arbitration. The court found that the written contracts, which the plaintiffs had authorized CarShield agents to sign during phone sales, contain class action and jury trial waivers. Arbitration is private, so its outcome may never be public.
That means there is no CarShield class action settlement, no fund, no administrator for a class and no claim form. Anything promising otherwise is not describing a real case.

Who Was Covered, and Who Could Be
FTC refunds: the checks went to people who paid CarShield for a vehicle service contract between September 2019 and September 2024 and had a claim denied. If you fit that description and never got a check, or your check expired, the refund administrator Analytics handles questions at 1-855-298-8877.
Class action: the proposed class would cover CarShield contract holders, but no class has been certified, and the arbitration ruling makes that unlikely while the stay lasts. If you have a dispute about a denied repair, your own contract governs how it can be brought — the contracts in the Lindsey-Evans case contained arbitration clauses. Read it before you sign up with anyone who says they will “add you” to a CarShield class action lawsuit.
What People Actually Received
The private case has produced no settlement, no fund and no claim form. With the case stayed for arbitration, any recovery for the three named plaintiffs would come through individual arbitration rather than a class payout. Nothing is payable to the general public from that case as of October 2026.
How cases like this one end
Our copy of the federal courts’ own case database covers 123,245 other contract casesclosed in U.S. federal district courts between 2015 and 2025, 5.8% of them filed as class actions:
- 30.9% ended in a settlement recorded by the court. Another 20.2% were dismissed voluntarily, which often follows a private settlement — so the real settlement share sits between 30.9% and 51.1%.
- 7.6% were decided on a motion before any trial.
- 1 in 71 reached a trial (1.4%), after a median of 29.3 months.
- Median time from filing to the end of the case: 7.6 months.
- Only 7,369 of them (6%) record a money award at all; the median of those is $402,000.

Three Things to Watch For
A well-known brand, a real FTC refund and a stalled class action are an easy mix for imposters:
“Claim your CarShield settlement” sites
The FTC refunds were sent directly to eligible consumers by check, and the class action has no settlement. A page asking for your contract number, bank details or a fee to “release your payment” is not connected to either.
Calls about an expired refund check
The FTC says it never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a refund. If you have questions about a check, call Analytics yourself at 1-855-298-8877 — do not use a number from an unsolicited call or text.
“Extended warranty” robocalls using the news
Callers selling car service contracts may mention the FTC case or the lawsuit to sound official or to pitch a “replacement” plan. No court or agency sells or switches vehicle service contracts.
CarShield Lawsuit — Questions People Actually Ask
Is there a CarShield class action settlement?
No. As of October 2026 the CarShield class action lawsuit, Lindsey-Evans v. NRRM, LLC, is stayed after the court compelled arbitration on March 6, 2026. There is no settlement, no fund and no claim form.
What was the $10 million FTC settlement?
In July 2024 CarShield and American Auto Shield agreed to a $10 million judgment to resolve FTC charges that their ads and telemarketing misrepresented coverage, rental cars, repair-shop choice and celebrity endorsements. They did not go to trial.
Did CarShield customers get money?
Yes, through the FTC. In December 2025 it mailed 168,179 checks totaling more than $9.6 million to people who paid for a contract between September 2019 and September 2024 and had a claim denied.
I never got an FTC check. Can I still apply?
The FTC sent checks to eligible consumers directly. If you think you qualified, contact the refund administrator, Analytics, at 1-855-298-8877.
My check expired. What now?
Checks had to be cashed within 90 days of issue. Call Analytics at 1-855-298-8877 to ask whether a reissue is possible. Do not pay anyone who offers to recover it for you.
Why was the lawsuit against CarShield sent to arbitration?
The judge found the plaintiffs' written contracts contain valid arbitration clauses and class action waivers. The plaintiffs argued the paperwork was an after-the-fact change to oral phone agreements and was unconscionable; the court rejected both arguments.
Can I still sue CarShield over a denied claim?
Your own contract decides how. The contracts in the Lindsey-Evans case contained arbitration clauses and class action waivers, so read yours closely. A licensed attorney can tell you whether your contract's clause applies to your dispute.
Is CarShield still allowed to advertise?
Yes. The FTC order bars it from deceptive claims and requires endorser testimonials to be truthful, with compliance reporting for up to 10 years.
Separate from this case: were you injured in the last 2 years?
Class-action payouts are fixed amounts through an administrator. A personal injury claim is a different case — and often worth far more. Free estimate, no obligation.
